Coleman Mach 9-Series Heat-Ready Zone Control Box, 12V DC (9430A755)

Here's the deal with the Coleman Mach 9-Series. A lot of those rooftop units ship heat-ready, which means the air conditioner is built to run an electric heat strip. But heat-ready doesn't mean heat-installed. To actually turn that capability on, you need this zone control box. It's the 12-volt DC control that ties the rooftop unit, the heat strip, and your wall thermostat together into one system.

Think of it as the traffic cop up in the ceiling assembly. When the thermostat calls for cool, the control box runs the compressor. When it calls for heat, it switches power over to the electric heat strip instead. Without this box in the loop, a heat-ready 9-Series unit just cools. It has no way to manage the heat side. That's why this part shows up so often on install lists and repair jobs, and it's an easy one to overlook.

One thing to get straight before you order. The heat strips are sold separately. This box is the control, not the heating element. If you've got a 4700 Series unit, you'll want heat strip 47233-4551. For all the other 9-Series units, it's 9233A4551. Buy the strip that matches your AC, because the control box on its own won't put out any heat. We see plenty of folks order the control, get it installed, and then realize the actual heating element is still sitting on the shelf at the parts counter.

On the thermostat side, this control is built to work with the 9330A3341 or the 9330A3351 wall thermostat. Those are the heads that speak the same language as the 9-Series zone system, so the box knows when to call for cool and when to switch to heat. If you're building the system from scratch, plan on the control box, the matching heat strip, and one of those two thermostats. That's the full package.

The box itself is compact. It measures 13-7/8 inches long, 4-3/8 inches wide, and 2-1/8 inches tall, so it tucks into the ceiling assembly without much fuss on most 9-Series installs. Worth measuring your headliner clearance first, though. On tighter ceiling cavities, that 2-1/8-inch height can crowd nearby ducting, and you don't want to find that out with the old unit already down.

It runs on 12 volts DC, same as the rest of your rig's low-voltage control side. Keep in mind that electric heat pulls real current when the strip fires, so make sure the unit is wired to a circuit that can carry the load. If your coach was pre-wired for heat-ready operation, you're usually in good shape. If you're adding heat to a unit that was only ever set up to cool, take a hard look at the wiring before you commit.

Who's this for? Two groups, mostly. First, techs and owners replacing a failed zone control on a 9-Series unit that already has heat. Match the part number, swap it, done. Second, owners upgrading a heat-ready unit that shipped without the heat side turned on. In that case the control box is step one, the heat strip is step two, and the thermostat ties it together.

And what it isn't. It's not a thermostat, so you still need one of the compatible heads. It's not a heat strip, so it won't warm your RV by itself. And it's not for heat-pump units. The 9-Series heat-pump models use a different control setup. This box is specifically for the heat-ready, electric-heat-strip side of the 9-Series line.
