Carver 4663U 3-Bow Bimini Top, 61-66" Wide, Pacific Blue — Product description

The Carver 4663U is a 3-bow bimini top for day cruisers, cuddy cabins, bass boats, and V-hull fishing boats running 61 to 66 inches wide at the mount. Anodized aluminum frame, Sunbrella Pacific Blue fabric, storage boot included. Real shade for the helm on a long day.

The Carver 4663U is a 3-bow bimini top built for boats that see a lot of sun. It's sized for day cruisers, cuddy cabins, bass boats, fish-and-ski rigs, and V-hull fishing boats running a side console with a walk-thru windshield, plus walk-around cuddy and Whaler-style hulls. It covers a beam width from 61 to 66 inches at the mounting point, stands 46 inches tall at the peak, and runs 72 inches (6 feet) front to back. That's enough coverage to keep the helm and the forward cockpit shaded through the middle of the day.

The frame is round-tube anodized aluminum. It's a manual top, so it folds down by hand when you're trailering or tucking the boat away, and pops back up in under a minute once you've got the routine. One thing worth knowing before you buy: the 46-inch height is the tall setting, and the frame can be cut down to as low as 36 inches if you need to clear a garage door, a low bridge, or a tight lift. Measure your headroom first. It's a lot easier to plan the cut than to wish you had.

Carver wraps the frame in premium acrylic canvas, either Sunbrella or Outdura depending on the run, in Pacific Blue. This is the good stuff. It's water repellent, blocks UV, and resists mildew, which matters when the top sits wet and folded for a week between trips. Acrylic marine canvas holds its color far longer than a cheap poly top, and it breathes instead of trapping heat under the frame. A color-matched storage boot comes in the box, so the folded top has a clean home when it's down.

Fitment is the part people get wrong, so let's be clear. The 61 to 66 inch spec is the width the top covers, measured rail to rail at the spot where the deck hinges mount. Measure your boat there before you order, not at the widest point of the beam. On a side-console boat with a walk-thru windshield, plan the hinge location so the folded top clears the console and the windshield frame. Most installs need you to drill and mount deck hinges, so have a bit and some marine sealant ready.

Out on the water, a bimini this size will catch wind at speed. We tell folks to run the factory straps snug and add a pair of extra tie-downs to the bow if you spend time above 25 knots or trailer with the top up. It keeps the bows from twisting and the fabric from drumming. If you boat in salt, give the anodized aluminum a fresh-water rinse now and then to keep it from streaking, and hit the frame joints with a little butyl tape at install if you want to shut down any drips at the fittings.

Why three bows instead of two? The extra bow spreads the load across the fabric and keeps the top taut, so it doesn't sag or pool water in the middle after a rain. It also gives you that full 72 inches of coverage without the canvas flapping between supports. On a bass boat or fish-and-ski, that means the driver and the person riding shotgun both stay shaded, not just whoever's sitting dead center. It's a small thing until you've spent an afternoon squinting under a top that's too short.

Here's how we'd set it up. Raise the top and hold it where you want the deck hinges before you drill anything. Check that it clears the windshield frame and the side console through the full fold, both up and down. Mark your holes, drill, bed the hinges in marine sealant, and run stainless fasteners. Take your time on the first side, then match the second to it. A careful hour here saves you a leaky, crooked top later.

Who's this for? Anybody running a 61 to 66 inch boat who's tired of cooking at the helm and wants real, all-day shade that folds out of the way when they don't need it. Who's it not for? If your mounting width falls outside that 61 to 66 inch window, you want the next size in the Carver line, not this one. Get the width right and the 4663U is a clean, durable top that'll hold up season after season.

Frequently asked questions

What width boat does the 4663U fit?

It covers a mounting width from 61 to 66 inches, measured rail to rail at the spot where the deck hinges mount, not at the widest point of the beam. Measure there before you order.

How tall is the top?

The peak height is 46 inches. The frame can be cut down to as low as 36 inches if you need to clear a garage door, a low bridge, or a boat lift.

How long is the coverage front to back?

72 inches, which is 6 feet. That's enough to shade the helm and the forward cockpit on most boats in this size range.

What is the fabric made of?

Premium acrylic marine canvas, either Sunbrella or Outdura depending on the production run, in Pacific Blue. It's water repellent, UV resistant, and mildew resistant.

Does it come with a storage boot?

Yes. A color-matched storage boot is included to cover and protect the top when it's folded down.

Is this a manual or powered top?

Manual. You fold it down and raise it by hand. There's no motor or switch to wire in.

What kind of boats is it designed for?

Day cruisers, cuddy cabins, bass boats, fish-and-ski boats, and V-hull fishing boats with a side console and walk-thru windshield, plus walk-around cuddy and Whaler-style hulls.

Will it hold up at highway or cruising speed?

Yes, but run the straps snug and add a couple of extra bow tie-downs if you spend time above 25 knots or trailer with the top up. That keeps the bows from twisting and the fabric from drumming.

How do I care for the frame in saltwater?

Give the anodized aluminum a fresh-water rinse now and then to keep it from streaking. The acrylic canvas can be hosed off and left to air dry.
