Camco 45195 RV Vent Insulator | 14x14 Roof Vent

The Camco 45195 is a simple piece of gear that solves a real problem. Your RV's roof vents are a comfort feature, but they're also a giant hole in your insulation. On a hot afternoon they let the sun cook the inside of the coach, and on a cold night they bleed your heat straight out the top. This foam insulator pushes right into a standard 14 inch by 14 inch vent opening and shuts that leak down.

Here's how it works. The 45195 is a thick block of foam, 3 inches deep, that friction-fits into the vent frame from inside the RV. No tools, no hardware, no adhesive. You just press it up into the opening and the foam holds itself in place. When you want the vent back, you pull it down and stash it in a cabinet. That's the whole install.

This is the version without reflective backing. Camco makes a sibling, the 45192, that adds a reflective backing for a little extra radiant heat rejection. The 45195 skips that and relies on the foam itself. For most owners parked in a mix of sun and shade, the plain foam does the job and keeps the price down. If you camp in relentless desert sun and want every bit of radiant blocking you can get, the reflective 45192 is the one to look at. Otherwise, this is plenty.

The foam does double duty. Besides cutting heat transfer, it blocks the daylight that pours through a roof vent or skylight. Anybody who's tried to sleep in on a summer morning in a camper knows how bright that overhead vent gets at 6 AM. Drop the insulator in the night before and the bedroom stays dark. It's a favorite trick for folks who work nights and sleep days, or anyone with kids trying to nap. And it cuts glare on a bright afternoon too, so the whole cabin feels a little more livable.

It works in both directions, summer and winter. In the heat, it slows the sun from loading the cabin so your roof air conditioner doesn't run as hard. In the cold, it keeps furnace heat from escaping through the vent, which is one of the worst cold spots in most rigs. Every bit of heat you keep in is heat your furnace doesn't have to make. Fitment is easy. It's built for the standard 14 inch by 14 inch roof vents you'll find on the vast majority of travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and truck campers. That covers most powered roof fans and plain fixed vents in that size. If your opening is the common 14 by 14, this drops right in. Measure the rough opening if you're not sure, since a few older or specialty units use odd sizes.

The cover is removable, so when it gets dusty from a season of use you pull it off and clean it instead of scrubbing the foam. Small thing, but it keeps the insulator looking decent year after year. The whole unit is white, so it looks clean and neutral from inside the coach and won't clash with your ceiling.

A couple of honest notes. This is a single insulator, so if your RV has two or three roof vents you'll want one for each opening. And it's meant to be used while the vent is closed. You're not going to run the fan with it stuffed in there. Think of it as a seasonal or overnight comfort tool you pop in when you want the vent sealed up tight, not a permanent fixture.
