The Camco 43681 Save-A-Step Brace is one of those cheap little parts that saves you a real headache down the road. It slides under your RV entry step and props it against the ground, so the whole step assembly stops flexing every time you climb in and out. If you've ever felt your steps sag or heard that metal groan when you put your full weight on the bottom tread, this is the fix.

Here's what's actually going on. RV entry steps are cantilevered off the doorway. They're built to fold up for travel, which means all your weight lands on a hinge and a couple of mounting bolts. Over a season of stepping in and out, that constant load works the metal, loosens the fasteners, and starts to sag. The Save-A-Step takes that load off the hinge and sends it straight to the ground. Less stress on the step, less wear on the mounting hardware, and a lot less rocking at the doorway.

It's dead simple to use. Park the rig, level it, then set the brace under the outer edge of the step. The height adjusts from 4-5/8 inch up to 8 inch on a 3/4 inch solid metal screw thread, so you just spin it up until it meets the underside of the step and takes the weight. Square bases on the feet keep it planted whether you're on a concrete pad, packed gravel, or grass. When it's time to break camp, spin it back down, pull it out, and fold your steps like normal. Nothing permanent, nothing to bolt on.

The build is heavy-gauge steel with a black finish, rated to hold 1,000 pounds. That's well past what any entry step will ever see, which is the point. You want the brace to be the stiff part of the equation so the step itself never has to flex. The round tube and wide square feet give it a low, stable stance that won't tip or sink under a normal step.

Who's this for? Anybody with a folding RV entry step that feels bouncy or loose. Travel trailers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, they all use the same basic step design and they all benefit from a brace. And since the whole thing is steel rather than plastic, it holds up to weather, sun, and being tossed in and out of a storage bay season after season. Give it a wipe now and then and it'll outlast a lot of the gear in that bay.

A couple of honest notes. This is sold as a single brace, which covers one step stack. If you've got an extra-wide or double-wide step and you want support on both sides, you'd grab a second one. And it braces the step, it doesn't level your RV. You still need to get the coach sitting right on its own jacks or leveling blocks first, then drop the brace in to firm up the steps. Do that and the difference is immediate. The steps feel like part of the rig instead of an afterthought hanging off the door.

For a couple bucks and thirty seconds of setup at each campsite, it's an easy call. Keep one in the pass-through with your leveling gear and you'll wonder why you put up with wobbly steps for so long.
