Camco 42962 Wrap Around RV Entry Step Rug, Black, 17-1/2 x 18 in

If you've ever tracked half a campground into your RV on a rainy weekend, you already know why this little rug exists. The Camco 42962 Wrap Around Scrub Rug clips right onto your entry step and catches the mud, sand, and grass clippings before they ever make it through the door. It's a small piece of gear that saves you a lot of sweeping.

The rug measures 17-1/2 inches long by 18 inches wide, sized to cover a standard RV entry step. The top surface is a looped PVC material. Those loops are what do the real work, scrubbing grit off the bottoms of your shoes and holding onto it instead of letting it ride inside. The material has a bit of spring to it too, so the step feels a little softer underfoot on the way in and out.

Underneath is a TPE backing. That backing keeps the rug planted on the step tread and won't scuff up the metal or plastic of the step itself. No sharp edges, and no adhesive residue to deal with later.

What makes this one easy to live with is the wrap-around hook and spring attachment. Instead of clips that only fit one style of step, the rug wraps over the front edge of the tread and a spring hooks it snug underneath. You pull it over the step, hook the spring, and you're done. Setting it up the first time couldn't be simpler. Fold your step down to its normal position, drape the rug over the leading edge so the looped surface faces up, then reach under and hook the spring onto the back of the tread. Give it a tug to make sure it's seated. That's the whole job. There's nothing to drill, no screws, and nothing that gets in the way of your step folding. When you break camp, you can leave it hooked in place while the step retracts, or pull it off and toss it in a storage bay.

We like these on travel trailers and fifth wheels where the entry step sees constant traffic. Kids in and out all day, the dog, wet flip-flops from the lake. The looped surface handles all of it. When the rug gets grungy, pull it off, shake it out, or hose it down and let it dry. The PVC and TPE don't hold water the way a carpet rug does, so it's back in service quickly.

It's not just for the campground, either. Plenty of folks use these on the boarding steps at the transom or on the dock step at the slip, anywhere a wet, gritty foot meets a smooth surface. The same looped PVC that grabs trail dirt grabs sand and dock grime just as well. And the TPE backing means it won't slide around on a fiberglass or aluminum step the way a loose mat would.

This version is black, which is the easy pick if you don't want dirt showing between cleanings. Camco offers the same wrap-around rug in gray (42964) and blue (42924) if you'd rather match your setup, but black hides the most and looks sharp on just about any rig.

A couple of honest notes. This is one step's worth of coverage, so if you've got a triple-step entry and want a rug on each tread, you'll want more than one. And while the looped PVC is tough, it's an outdoor step rug at the end of the day. Leave it out through a few hard winters and it'll eventually show wear like anything else. For the price, most folks just swap in a fresh one when the old one's had enough. Bottom line, it's a cheap, sensible upgrade that keeps your floors cleaner and your step a little kinder on bare feet.
