This base is designed to fit under Camco, Dometic, and newer Norcold refrigerator vent covers, so if your existing cover is still in good shape you can reuse it and just swap the base underneath. Install is straightforward for anyone comfortable on a ladder. Pull the old base, clean the roof opening down to a bare surface, set the new 42164 with the included hardware, and seal the perimeter with a self-leveling lap sealant made for your roof type. Give it a firm press so it seats flat. While you're up there, check the screen for any gaps and make sure the surrounding sealant on nearby fittings hasn't dried out. Color is mostly about looks. The base itself is black, which blends in with black covers and darker roofs.
