Your RV fridge does a lot of its work up on the roof. Most Dometic and Norcold absorption refrigerators pull heat off the cooling coils and dump it out a roof vent, and that opening needs a cover that keeps rain, leaves, and road grit out while still letting the hot air escape. That's exactly what the Camco 42163 is. It's a replacement refrigerator vent cover in black, and it drops right onto Dometic, Camco, and newer Norcold vent bases.

Here's why the vent even exists. An RV absorption fridge cools by running a heated cycle, and all that heat has to go somewhere. On a lot of rigs it rises up and out the roof vent, right above the fridge. If that path gets blocked or the opening gets sealed up wrong, the fridge runs hot and struggles to hold temperature, especially on a 95-degree afternoon at a full campsite. So the cover's job is a balancing act. Keep the weather out, let the heat out. This one's built to do both.

This is the cover only, without a solar panel. So if your old lid cracked, faded chalky, or blew off somewhere on the interstate, this is the part that gets you sealed back up. It doesn't include the base and it doesn't have an integrated solar panel. If you run a roof-mounted solar setup, though, you're not stuck. The cover can be cut out to make room for a panel, so you can keep your charging gear and still protect the vent opening.

Camco molds it from UV-stabilized polypropylene, which is the part that matters most for something living full-time in the sun. Plain plastic goes brittle and chalky after a couple of summers. UV-stabilized resin holds its color and its flex a lot longer, so the cover doesn't turn into a cracked mess the first time a branch taps it. You're working over the existing vent base, so there's no cutting into the roof and no wiring to mess with on a standard cover-only swap. Who needs one? Anybody whose factory vent cover has seen better days. One thing to check before you order: this fits Dometic, Camco, and newer Norcold refrigerator vent bases. Older setups used a different base, so match your existing base style before you buy. If your base is cracked too, you'll want to address that separately, since this part is the cover, not the base. Once it's on, it's pretty much maintenance-free, but give it a rinse when you wash the roof, clear off any leaves or pine needles that pile up around it, and glance at the fasteners once a season to make sure nothing's backed out.
