If you run an RV with a Suburban water heater, you already know the enemy. Wasps and mud daubers. They love the warm, sheltered space behind the vent door, right up against the burner tube. All it takes is one nest packed into that flue and your water heater won't light. Or it lights, soots up, and drops straight into a lockout. Then you're taking a cold shower on the first morning of the trip. The signs are easy to miss until it's too late, a burner that clicks but won't catch, a sooty smell, or a fault on a fresh, healthy tank of propane. This little stainless screen from Camco is what stops all of that before it starts.

The Camco 42151, sold under model number WH400, is a stainless steel insect screen cut to fit the flush-mount vent door on Suburban 6-gallon water heaters. It measures 6-3/4 inches long by 6-3/4 inches wide by 1-5/16 inches deep, so it seats right in the vent opening. The mesh is tight enough to lock out wasps, spiders, and mud daubers, but open enough to let the burner pull the combustion air it needs to run clean. It's sold as a single screen.

Why stainless steel? Because rust is what kills a cheap screen. Between salt air at the coast, road spray on the highway, and season after season of weather, plain steel corrodes and falls apart.
