Bulldog Bearing Protectors 2.441 in Hub | BP244S0604 — Product description

If you launch a boat trailer, you already know saltwater and wheel bearings don't mix. These Bulldog bearing protectors press into a 2.441-inch hub and keep the bearing cavity sealed and packed with grease. You get two in the set, enough to do both hubs on a single-axle trailer.

If you tow a boat, you already know the worst thing you can do to a wheel bearing is back a hot hub into cold water. The bearing cools, the air inside contracts, and it pulls water and grit right past the seal. Do that enough times and you're changing a bearing on the shoulder of a highway. These Bulldog bearing protectors are the cheap insurance against that.

They fit a 2.441-inch hub bore and press into the end of the hub in place of a plain dust cap. Once they're seated, they seal the bearing cavity off from the water, sand, and road salt that shorten bearing life. And they give you a simple way to keep that cavity packed with fresh grease, so the bearings stay lubricated season after season.

Fitment matters here, so measure before you order. The number that counts is the hub bore, the inside diameter of the hub where the cap seats. These are made for 2.441 inches. If your hub measures something else, a protector this size won't seat right and won't seal. When in doubt, pull your old dust cap and measure across the opening, or give us a call and we'll help you sort it out.

You get two in the set, which covers both hubs on a single-axle trailer. Running a tandem axle? You'll want two sets to do all four. Install is straightforward. Tap each one squarely into the hub with a block of wood and a mallet so it seats evenly, then top off the grease. Most folks do it once at the start of the season and forget about it until next spring.

These are a good fit for boat trailers, utility trailers, and small cargo trailers running a 2.441-inch hub. If you're already doing a bearing repack, dropping these on at the same time is the smart move. It's a few minutes of work that saves you a roadside mess later.

Frequently asked questions

What size hub do these fit?

They're made for a 2.441-inch hub bore, the inside diameter of the hub where the cap seats. Measure across your old dust cap opening before ordering. If your hub is a different size, a 2.441-inch protector won't seal.

How many come in the set?

Two. That covers both hubs on a single-axle trailer. If you're running a tandem axle, you'll want two sets to do all four wheels.

What does a bearing protector actually do?

It seals the end of the hub so water, sand, and road salt stay out of the bearings, and it lets you keep the cavity packed with grease. On boat trailers that get dunked, that's the difference between a long bearing life and a roadside failure.

Will these fit my boat trailer?

Only if your hub bore measures 2.441 inches. Bearing protectors are sized to the hub, not the trailer brand, so measure the hub opening first. When in doubt, give us a call with your measurement.

Do I need special tools to install them?

No. Tap each one squarely into the hub bore with a block of wood and a mallet so it seats evenly, then top off the grease. Take your time so it goes in straight and seals all the way around.

When should I install them?

A bearing repack is the perfect time. If your bearings are already open and freshly greased, dropping these on at the same time takes a few extra minutes and buys you a lot of peace of mind.
