BPS Marine PRO-6 24V 6-Transducer Ultrasonic Antifouling System

Ultrasonic antifouling isn't magic, but it's close to it when you install it right. The BPS Marine PRO-6 uses six submersible transducers bonded to the inside of your hull. Each one sweeps through a range of ultrasonic frequencies, from 20kHz up to 42kHz, and that constant vibration makes it very hard for barnacles, mussels, and other hard growth to get a grip on the surfaces below the waterline. No poison leaching into the water. No annual haul-and-scrape marathon. Just a quiet control module doing its job while you're at the dock or on the hook.

The PRO-6 is built for bigger boats. One system covers hulls up to 75 feet in length, and it's the right call for boats under 60 feet that carry pods or sterndrives, where a single system can protect the whole running-gear package at once. Six transducers give you enough coverage to hit the hull, the drives, the rudders, and the stabilizers. If you run a wide-beam powerboat, keep in mind that the sections aft of the engines can leave gaps, so plan your transducer placement carefully or step up to a second system for full coverage.

Here's the honest part about installation. These transducers need a direct epoxy bond to solid fiberglass to work, and the system ships with two epoxy kits for exactly that. Voids, paint layers, or a bead of sealant between the transducer and the hull will kill the signal, because ultrasound doesn't jump a barrier. That also means this is a solid GRP laminate system. Aluminum hulls and cored hulls show minimal results, so it's not the right pick for those boats. Take your time bonding each transducer to clean, bare glass and you'll get the coverage the system is rated for.

Power draw is light. The PRO-6 pulls around 1.5 amp-hours off a 24V DC supply, which is nothing compared to what you'd spend on bottom paint and yard time over a season. Most owners wire it into a dedicated 24V circuit so it isn't drawing off the house bank when you're sitting at anchor for a few days. The control module comes with an integrated power cable, and each of the six transducers runs on 15 feet of cable. There are also three 15-foot extension cables in the box for longer runs on a big hull.

Set your expectations right and you'll be happy with it. Ultrasonic antifouling is best at stopping the hard stuff, the barnacles and mussels that turn into a real problem. It won't keep a film of slime off entirely, so you'll still want to give the bottom a wipe now and then and a proper cleaning once a year. In warm water especially, it's smart to run it alongside your existing zincs and a coat of antifouling paint. Think of the PRO-6 as the system that does the heavy lifting on hard growth, cutting your drag, your fuel burn, and your time in the yard.

A couple of things worth knowing from owners who've lived with these systems. Cable chafing at hull penetrations tends to show up after a year or two, so run your transducer cables in split loom and secure them well with cable ties where they pass through bulkheads or lie against the hull. And pay attention to the connectors. A little marine-grade heat shrink over each connection keeps water out, which is the main thing that takes a transducer offline early. Spend the extra half hour on cable management during the install and the system will run trouble-free for the long haul.
