BPS Marine PRO-2 2-Transducer 24V Ultrasonic Antifouling System

Every season a boat sits in the water, its hull becomes real estate for barnacles, algae, and slime. Left alone, that growth drags on your speed, burns extra fuel, and turns haul-out day into hours of scraping. The BPS Marine PRO-2 takes a different approach. It's a two-transducer ultrasonic antifouling system that works from inside the hull, disrupting marine organisms before they ever get a foothold.

The idea behind ultrasonic antifouling is straightforward. The PRO-2 control module drives its two submersible transducers through a multi-frequency sweep that runs from 20kHz up to 42kHz. Those sound waves travel through the hull and into the thin film of water against it, agitating the microscopic layer where algae and barnacle larvae first try to settle. Knock out that early biofilm and the hard growth that normally follows has nothing to build on.

A single PRO-2 covers hulls up to 40 feet, and it isn't limited to the hull itself. The same system can protect drives, rudders, and stabilizers, so the underwater metal that usually needs the most attention gets covered too. Those running-gear surfaces sit in dead water and foul fast, and they're a pain to reach once the boat is launched, so keeping them clean from the inside is a real advantage. Running a bigger boat? Multiple PRO-2 systems combine to blanket a larger vessel, with transducers placed to cover each zone you want kept clean.

Power draw stays modest. The PRO-2 runs on 24V DC and averages just 0.5Ah, so it can sit on your house bank and run continuously without becoming a drain you have to babysit. On boats that spend weeks between trips, a small solar panel or a battery kept topped up is plenty to keep the system sweeping around the clock, which is exactly when you want it working.

Installation happens on the inside of the hull, so nothing gets drilled through and there's no new thru-hull to worry about. Each transducer bonds directly to a clean, dry section of the inner hull with the included epoxy kit, and the 15 feet of cable per transducer gives you room to reach the spots that matter without splicing in extensions. A solid epoxy bond is the whole game here. The sound has to pass cleanly from the transducer into the fiberglass, so mounting on a flat, solid laminate away from stringers and thru-hulls gets you the best coverage.

The PRO-2 is built for fiberglass hulls, where ultrasonic energy travels well. It's a strong fit for monohulls up to that 40-foot mark. Steel and aluminum hulls carry sound differently and aren't the target for this kit, so if you're on a metal boat this isn't the right tool. For the fiberglass cruiser, sportfisher, or sailboat owner tired of aggressive bottom paint and mid-season dives, it slots right in.

Set expectations the way experienced owners do. Ultrasonic antifouling is very good at stopping hard growth like barnacles and heavy weed, and most owners see far less of it. It doesn't mean you'll never touch the bottom again. In warm, high-growth water you may still wipe off a light slime film now and then, but you're trading a scraper and a wetsuit for a quick pass with a brush. Over a season that's a real difference in fuel, speed, and the shape your running gear stays in. It also means fewer haul-outs and less time spent under the boat in a wetsuit, which is where the system pays for itself.
