Bombora Type V Inflatable Belt Pack - Sunset — Product description

Bombora's Type V inflatable belt pack in Sunset gives you Coast Guard approved flotation without the bulk of a foam vest. It rides low on your waist, stays clear of your paddle stroke, and inflates with a pull of the cord when you need it. Type V approval with Type III performance.

If you paddle board or kayak, you already know a bulky foam vest is the first thing you want to take off once you're out on the water. The Bombora Type V Inflatable Belt Pack fixes that. It's an ultra-slim belt that rides on your waist, weighs almost nothing, and stays out of the way of your paddle stroke. The Sunset colorway is part of Bombora's Fade Out Collection, inspired by paddling at dawn and dusk, right when the sun sits on the horizon.

Here's the thing about a Type V belt pack. It's United States Coast Guard approved with Type III performance, but it has to be worn to count as legal. That's the tradeoff for the low profile. Keep it on your waist and you're covered. When you need it, you pull the cord, the 16 gram CO2 cylinder fires, and you get 16.5 pounds of design buoyancy. There's a secondary oral inflation tube too, and topping it off by mouth brings you up to 29.5 pounds.

It fits a wide range of paddlers. Approved for anyone 16 and older, and the belt adjusts to chest sizes from 30 all the way to 56 inches. There are D-ring attachment points on the pack for clipping on small gear, a whistle, a key float, whatever you like to keep close. And because it sits on your waist instead of over your shoulders, it doesn't chafe on a long day and it won't cook you on a hot afternoon the way a foam vest can.

One important note. The belt pack doesn't come armed. The CO2 cylinder ships in the spare cylinder pocket inside the pack, and you'll need to arm it yourself before your first trip. Read the instructions and set it up properly. It's a quick job, but skipping it means the pack won't inflate when you pull the cord. Once it's armed, you're ready to go.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Coast Guard approved?

Yes. It's a United States Coast Guard approved Type V device with Type III performance. The catch with a Type V belt pack is that it has to be worn to count as legal flotation, so keep it on your waist while you're out there.

How does it inflate?

You pull the cord and the 16 gram CO2 cylinder fires, giving you 16.5 pounds of design buoyancy. There's also a secondary oral inflation tube, and topping it off by mouth brings you up to 29.5 pounds.

Does it come ready to use out of the box?

No. The pack ships unarmed, with the CO2 cylinder tucked in the spare cylinder pocket inside the belt. You'll need to arm it yourself before your first trip. Read the instructions and set it up properly so it fires when you pull the cord.

Who can wear it?

It's approved for users 16 years and older, and the belt adjusts to fit chest sizes from 30 to 56 inches.

Is it a good fit for paddle boarding and kayaking?

That's exactly what it's built for. The slim belt design keeps flotation on you without getting in the way of your stroke, which is why it works so well for paddle boarding, kayaking, and other water sports.

Can I attach gear to it?

Yes. The pack has D-ring attachment points for clipping on small accessories like a whistle or a key float.
