Battery Tender Ring Terminal Harness with Quick Disconnect, 12V

If you keep a boat that sits between trips, you already know the drill. You come back after a couple of weeks, turn the key, and the battery's flat. This little harness from Battery Tender fixes that for good. It bolts right to your 12 volt battery posts and gives you a clean 2-pin quick disconnect you can leave hanging in a dry corner of the bilge or lazarette. When it's time to top off the battery, you snap your maintainer onto the plug and walk away. No fumbling with terminal clamps, no cracked knuckles reaching into a tight battery box.

The pigtail runs 24 inches from the battery to the connector, which is enough to route the plug out of the battery box and up to an accessible spot on most center consoles and small runabouts. The leads are color coded black and red so you won't second guess polarity, and there's a 7.5 amp inline fuse built into the harness to protect the wiring if something ever shorts. The ring terminals slip over standard battery posts and snug down under the same nuts that hold your cables.

Here's how we like to rig it. Mount the ring terminals to the posts first, red to positive and black to negative, then route the 24 inch lead to a dry, reachable spot. A couple of real-world notes worth knowing. The harness fits Group 24 and Group 27 batteries cleanly, which covers most starting and deep-cycle setups on trailerable boats. If you run AGM batteries with tall hold-down brackets, check your clearance before you tighten everything down, since the ring terminals add a little stack height under the nut. And if your battery bank lives way up in the bow or back at the stern, 24 inches might come up short. That's an easy fix. Splice on a length of marine-grade wire to reach, and keep the fused end near the battery.

One thing to keep an eye on. The built-in fuse is rated at 7.5 amps, which is plenty for trickle-charging and battery maintenance. If you're running a higher-output charger, watch that fuse, and don't be surprised if you need to step up the inline protection to match your charger's rating. For straight maintenance duty, though, 7.5 amps is right where it should be.

This is one of those cheap parts that makes owning a boat less annoying. Wire it in once, and keeping your battery healthy over the off-season becomes a ten-second job. Snap on, walk away, snap off before you launch. Simple.
