B & G Nemesis 7 Sailing Display

The B & G Nemesis 7 is the newest addition to B & G's Nemesis line of sailing displays, a 7-inch touchscreen built to put every piece of sailing data you care about right where you can see it, on the mast, in the cockpit, or at the helm. B & G has been the sailor's electronics brand for a long time, and the Nemesis 7 is aimed squarely at people who actually race and cruise, not just motor from slip to slip.

The 7-inch size slots into the Nemesis lineup alongside the larger 9 and 12-inch models, so if you've sailed with a bigger Nemesis on another boat, you already know the interface. The 7 gives you that same customisable dashboard system in a footprint that works where panel space is tight. For a lot of cruisers and one-design racers, 7 inches is the sweet spot.

What sets the Nemesis apart is how completely you can make it your own. You get pre-set dashboards ready to go out of the box, or you drag and drop your way to a custom layout with exactly the data fields you want. Graphical gauges, SailSteer, tank levels, histograms, even an IP camera view. Want boat speed and true wind angle big and everything else small? Set it up that way. The screen adapts to how you sail, not the other way around.

Because it reads your whole NMEA 2000 network, the Nemesis 7 shows the data you already trust, wind, speed, depth, heading, from the sensors you've got. It just presents them the way you want. Sailors coming from older B & G instruments will feel right at home, and the drag-and-drop editor means you're not locked into whatever layout the factory picked. Add a histogram to watch a wind shift build, or drop in a big SailSteer view for the tactician. It's your call.

The automatic Context modes are the feature that earns its keep on race day. The display senses your point of sail and switches dashboards on its own, through Upwind, Reaching, Downwind, Pre-start, Motoring, and Pilot Status. So when you tack onto the beat, the numbers that matter upwind are already in front of you. No fumbling through menus while you're trying to trim.

Then there's visibility. The 1200-nit touchscreen is genuinely bright, and the super-wide viewing angles mean you can read it from the rail or halfway up the companionway, not just from dead ahead. It stays clear in direct sun, even through polarized sunglasses, which is where a lot of displays fall apart. Adjustable palettes and backlight let you dial it in for a bright afternoon or a quiet night watch.

Mounting is flexible. The Nemesis 7 goes in portrait or landscape, flush or panel mount, so it fits a tight bulkhead or a mast bracket without a fight. It runs on 10 to 32 volts DC, draws about 12 watts, and B & G recommends a 1.5 amp fuse. Give it a proper NMEA 2000 backbone drop and clean 12V power and it'll behave. On longer cable runs, keep an eye on voltage drop and size your wire accordingly. It connects over Ethernet and NMEA 2000, and if you want more than one screen, you tie them together through the Nemesis Hub so every display shares the same data.

So who's it for? This is a sailing display, first and last. If you're rigging a race boat and want point-of-sail dashboards that change themselves, or you're a cruiser who wants tank levels and a camera feed sitting right next to your wind and depth, the Nemesis 7 is right in the pocket. At 7.7 by 4.8 inches and about a pound and a half, it's compact enough for a smaller boat but sharp enough for a serious program. It's rated IP67, so spray and rain aren't a worry, and it carries a 2-year warranty. One thing worth planning for: like any cockpit touchscreen, it'll last longer if you keep a cover on it when the boat's on the hard and the sun's beating down.
