Arcon 50429 24-LED #93 Bulb, 12V Soft White

The Arcon 50429 is an LED replacement for the old incandescent #93 bulb, the little single-contact bayonet bulb you'll find in a lot of RV and boat interior fixtures. Twenty-four soft white LEDs, wired for 12 volt DC, in a form that twists straight into the socket your filament bulb came out of. No rewiring, no adapters. Pop the old one out, drop this in, and you're done.

So why bother swapping a bulb that already works? Two reasons, and they both matter when you're living off your house batteries. First, heat. A filament #93 runs hot enough to warm a small fixture and yellow a plastic lens over time. This LED stays cool to the touch. Second, current draw. That old incandescent pulls real amps every hour it's lit, and on a boat or a camper that's amp-hours coming straight out of your bank. The LED sips a fraction of that. If you boondock, dry camp, or spend nights on the hook, a cabin full of these adds up to meaningfully more time between charges.

Twenty-four LEDs is a genuinely useful amount of light for a fixture this size. It's not a floodlight and it isn't trying to be. It's an even, comfortable interior glow that covers a galley counter or a dinette table without hot spots. If you've been squinting under a dim old bulb, this will feel like an upgrade the first night you use it.

Soft white is the right call for an interior. It's a warm, easy light, close to the color you're used to from an incandescent, not the blue-white glare you get from cheap LEDs. Good for a galley, a dinette, a reading light over the bunk. Your cabin still feels like a cabin and not a walk-in cooler.

Fitment is straightforward, but check your base before you order a boxful. The #93 uses a single-contact bayonet base, the kind you push in and give a quarter turn. If your fixture takes that bulb, this drops right in. One thing worth knowing about any LED bayonet bulb: they're polarity sensitive. If you install it and nothing happens, don't assume it's dead. Pull it, rotate it 180 degrees, and put it back. Nine times out of ten it lights right up. That's normal for LEDs on DC, not a defect.

We reach for these on interior fixtures, dome lights, courtesy lights, and reading lamps. Anywhere you've got a #93 socket and you want to cut heat and battery draw without changing the fixture. It's an interior bulb, so we'd keep it inside the cabin and out of standing water. For a full camper or a boat with a dozen cabin lights, swapping them over is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make to how long your batteries last.

There's also the simple matter of not having to touch it again. LEDs don't burn out the way a filament does. There's no thin wire to vibrate loose on a rough road or a choppy run. For a bulb tucked up in a headliner fixture that's a pain to reach, that longevity is worth something on its own. You put it in once and forget about it.

A couple of honest notes. If your fixture runs on a dimmer, test this bulb on it before you count on it, because LED bulbs and old dimmer circuits don't always play nice. And if you're not sure whether your fixture takes a #93 versus a similar-looking bulb, pull your existing one and read the base before ordering. Get the fit right and this is a simple, satisfying little upgrade. Cooler light, less draw, and no more hot filament bulbs cooking your lens covers.
