The Actisense A2K-TDC-2M is a 2 meter NMEA 2000 micro cable assembly that carries power and data between the pieces of your network. Use it as a drop to a sensor or display, or to extend your backbone a short run. IP67 sealed when mated, built on UL-certified cable with gold-plated M12 connectors that mate with your existing N2K gear.

The Actisense A2K-TDC-2M is a 2 meter NMEA 2000 micro cable assembly, and it's one of those parts you don't think about until your network won't talk. This is the cable that carries power and data between the pieces of your NMEA 2000 backbone, or runs off to a sensor as a drop. Two meters gives you enough reach for most helm and console runs without leaving a pile of slack to chafe behind the dash.

Here's the short version of how a NMEA 2000 network works, in case you're wiring one for the first time. You run a backbone down the boat, terminate both ends, and tap into it with T-pieces. Every display, GPS antenna, engine gateway, and sensor connects to that backbone through a drop cable. The A2K-TDC-2M does double duty. Use it as a drop from a T-piece to a device, or use it to extend the backbone itself between two connection points. Same cable, same connectors, either job.

It's built the way Actisense builds everything. Only UL-certified cable goes into these assemblies, and the connectors are standard M12 micro with A-key polarization so they mate cleanly with the rest of your N2K gear. There are five conductors inside a single waterproof jacket: a power pair, two data wires, and a drain. The drain ties to the cable shield, which is what keeps engine noise and RF out of your data and stops the cable from throwing interference of its own. On a boat packed with alternators, VHF, and radar, that shielding matters more than folks expect.

The contacts are gold-plated brass on the male side and gold-plated phosphor bronze on the female side. Gold plating is there for one reason. It fights corrosion, and corrosion on a data pin is what turns a working network into an intermittent one six months down the road. The power pair is 22 AWG tinned copper, the data pair is 24 AWG, and every strand is tinned so salt air has a harder time. It's rated for 3 amps at up to 60 volts DC, which is well inside what an N2K bus asks of a single drop.

Sealing is IP67 when mated, so a connection sitting in a wet locker or an open console is protected once the collar is done up. And that's the one install tip worth repeating. Hand-tighten the threaded collar firmly. A loose ring is the number one cause of intermittent data on a boat that's pounding through a chop. If you've reused a connector a few times and the O-ring looks tired, swap in a fresh assembly rather than chasing a dropout later.

A few network rules keep you out of trouble. The Lite cable can build a backbone up to 100 meters total. Any single drop off the backbone can be at most 6 meters, and all your drops added together can't exceed 72 meters. Keep each drop as short as the install allows. A 2 meter run like this one is a sweet spot for a compact helm on a 25 to 35 foot boat, close enough to keep the drop budget healthy, long enough to route cleanly behind the dash. Where you can, run it away from engine wiring harnesses. Parallel runs right next to high-current cables are asking for noise on the bus.

Who's this for? Anybody adding a device to an existing NMEA 2000 network, or building one from scratch and needing a known-good 2 meter link. It's the right call when you want the whole network on matched, certified cable instead of a mix of no-name connectors that may or may not seal. What it isn't: it's not a backbone starter kit on its own, and it's not the cable you want if you need to span more than 6 meters to one device. For that you'd step up to a longer assembly. But for a clean 2 meter drop or a short backbone extension, this is exactly the part. Pre-molded connectors mean there's nothing to wire and nothing to solder, so you plug it in, tighten the collar, and get back to running the inlet.
