The Actisense A2K-FFC-SM is a straight male field fit connector for NMEA 2000 Micro cable. Cut your cable to the exact length, seat the conductors, and screw it together. If you've ever run a NMEA 2000 backbone on a real boat, you know the pain of pre-made cables. They're either three inches too short or two feet too long, and that coil of excess ends up zip-tied behind the dash forever. Field fit connectors are how you build a network that actually fits the boat instead of forcing the boat to fit the cable. The Actisense A2K-FFC-SM straight micro field fit connector is a male field-terminated connector that lets you cut Actisense Micro cable to the exact length you need and build your own drop or backbone section right at the helm.

Here's how it works. You strip the Micro cable, seat the five conductors into the connector's gold-plated brass contacts, and screw the two halves together. As they tighten, the internal sealing gland clamps down around the cable jacket and pulls the whole assembly watertight. There's no crimp tool needed for the shell and no soldering. The gland is sized for 6 to 8mm cable (PG9), which matches Actisense Micro cable, and the M12 mating thread follows the standard 'A' polarization, so it drops straight onto any NMEA 2000 Micro network.

Who's this for? Anybody building or repairing a custom N2K network. Sailboats especially, where you're often making short drops under a couple of feet and a factory cable would leave a mess of slack you have to hide somewhere. It's just as handy on a powerboat when you're feeding an engine interface cable through a tight chase and there's no way a molded connector fits through the hole. You run the bare cable through first, terminate it in place, and you're done.

It's the same watertight system either way, just a different exit angle. You can mix and match male, female, straight, and right-angle across your network however the boat is laid out.

Electrically it's rated for 4A at 60VDC, which is well within what a NMEA 2000 network carries. The contacts are gold-plated brass with contact resistance at or under 5 milliohms and insulation resistance of 100 megohms or better, so you're not introducing voltage drop or noise onto the bus. The body is glass-filled nylon, the screw is stainless steel, and the rubber o-ring seals the connector to IP67 when it's locked. It handles ambient temperatures from -25C all the way to +90C, so a hot engine room in summer and a cold winter layup are both fine.

A few things we tell every installer. Strip all five conductors carefully, because one stray strand across the micro pins will short the bus and take down your whole network. Watch your power pair polarity. Getting it reversed on a field termination is the number one cause of intermittent dropouts, so label the cable the second you cut it. Seat and lock the collar fully, especially on a boat that pounds and vibrates, or the connection can back off over time. And keep the threads and the o-ring clean during assembly. If you pinch the o-ring, you lose the waterproof seal, and that seal is the whole point of a field fit connector.

Pair these with Actisense T-connectors, terminators, and Micro cable, and you've got a network built entirely from one reliable interconnect family. Just remember this is a component, not a finished cable, so plan on buying the cable and the connectors you need together.
