Raymarine P79S Smart™ Sensor w/SeaTalkNG Adapter w/A80373 & A06045 Product Description

Discover seamless underwater depth detection without compromising your boat's sleek lines. The Raymarine P79S Smart Sensor transforms how fiberglass hull owners monitor depths, delivering precise readings straight to your marine network. Perfect for trailered boats or those prioritizing speed and minimal drag, this in-hull transducer mounts entirely inside the hull, eliminating external protrusions that could snag lines or increase resistance during high-speed runs.

Engineered with Airmar's innovative Smart technology, it processes depth data onboard, sending clean, reliable signals via NMEA 2000 or compatible networks. Whether you're navigating shallow coastal waters or cruising open seas, expect crystal-clear performance up to 500 feet, thanks to its focused 235 kHz frequency and narrow 7-degree beam width.

Why Boaters Trust the P79S for Superior Depth Sensing

  • No-Drill Installation: Align the adjustable plastic flange to your hull's deadrise (up to 22 degrees) using built-in guides, secure with marine epoxy, and fill with non-toxic antifreeze—no hull modifications needed.
  • Hull-Friendly Design: Ideal for solid fiberglass up to 5/8-inch thick or thin aluminum hulls under 3.8 mm. In-water installs are possible, keeping your boat ready for action year-round.
  • High-Speed Accuracy: The straight-down beam ensures maximum echo returns, even at planing speeds, outperforming traditional thru-hull options in drag-sensitive scenarios.
  • Network Ready: Includes SeaTalkNG adapter for effortless integration, plus a 30-foot cable for flexible routing. Outputs processed data to multiple displays simultaneously.
  • Interference-Free Operation: 235 kHz tuning avoids clashes with other sonar frequencies, maintaining clear readings in busy anchorages or multi-transducer setups.

Effortless Step-by-Step Installation

Installing the P79S takes under an hour for most DIY enthusiasts. Here's how to get it right the first time:

  1. Clean and dry the inside hull surface. Position the flange along the centerline, using markings to match your deadrise angle (2-22 degrees).
  2. Secure with quick-set epoxy, ensuring a watertight seal.
  3. Fill the flange with propylene glycol antifreeze to optimize sound transmission through fiberglass.
  4. Insert the urethane transducer cap, dial it to vertical, and lock in place.
  5. Connect the NMEA 2000 cable to your network via the SeaTalkNG adapter—power up and calibrate for instant depth intel.

Pro Tip: For best results on curved hulls, test-fit without epoxy first. This setup thrives on boats up to 25 feet, handling the rigors of trailering without vulnerability.

Real-World Performance That Elevates Your Boating

Boaters rave about the P79S's reliability in diverse conditions—from murky estuaries where narrow beam precision shines, to deep-water passages demanding 500-foot range. Its 60W power punches through thermoclines, while embedded electronics minimize wiring clutter. Unlike exposed transducers, it stays protected from impacts, marine growth, and winter storage stresses.

For performance-oriented vessels, the drag reduction translates to better fuel efficiency and top speeds. Pair it with modern multifunction displays, and you'll access depth trends, alarms, and overlays that enhance safety and confidence on the water.

Technical Edge at a Glance

  • Max Depth: 500 feet (152 meters)
  • Beam Width: 7 degrees for pinpoint accuracy
  • Frequency: 235 kHz—exclusive for depth-only clarity
  • Cable: 30 feet, NMEA 2000 certified
  • Power: 60W for robust signal in varied water columns

Keep It Performing Like New

Longevity starts with simple care: Annually inspect the antifreeze level and top off if needed. Wipe the transducer cap gently with a soft cloth—avoid abrasives. During haul-outs, rinse with fresh water to flush salt. This transducer's rugged urethane construction resists fouling better than many competitors, but in high-growth areas, a light vinegar soak works wonders without disassembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the P79S be installed while the boat is in the water?

Yes, the in-hull design allows installation without dry-docking. Just ensure the hull interior is accessible and dry for epoxy curing.

What hull types work best with this transducer?

It's optimized for solid fiberglass hulls up to 5/8-inch thick (16 mm) and thin aluminum under 3.8 mm. Avoid cored or foam-filled hulls for best transmission.

Does it interfere with other sonar equipment?

The 235 kHz frequency is dedicated to depth, minimizing crosstalk with common 50/200 kHz fishfinders or CHIRP systems.

How do I adjust for deadrise angle?

Use the flange's built-in degree markings (0-22 degrees). Rotate the transducer cap until it points straight down, confirmed by test readings.

What's the maximum boat size for optimal performance?

Best suited for vessels up to 8 meters (25 feet). Larger boats may need higher-power alternatives for deeper ranges.

Is antifreeze required, and what type?

Yes, propylene glycol-based non-toxic marine antifreeze is essential. It couples sound waves efficiently and protects against freezing.

Can it connect to non-Raymarine displays?

Absolutely—NMEA 2000 output works with any compatible chartplotter or MFD supporting the standard.

The P79 adjustable, in-hull depth transducer is ideal for boats with fiberglass hulls looking for a fast and easy installation, high-speed performance, or those who want to minimize drag. The transducer installs inside of the boat's hull, transmitting and receiving echoes through the solid fiberglass bottom with no hull protrusion whatsoever. P79 comes with an innovative flange that installs on the inside of the boat's hull using quick-setting marine epoxy. No cutting or drilling is required. Using built-in markings the flange is aligned to match the dead rise angle of the boat's hull. Once set in place and made liquid-tight, the flange is filled with propylene glycol non-toxic antifreeze and the active transducer cap is attached. Finally, the transducer cap is dialed-in and locked in place for a straight-down beam and maximum echo returns. The design of the P79 accommodates a wide range of dead rise angles from 2 Degree to 22 Degree. This transducer is intended for use on vessels with solid fiberglass hulls with a maximum thickness of 5/8 Inch. P79 can also be used on aluminum hulls less than 3.8 Millimeter thick.

P79S Smart™ Sensor with SeaTalkNG Adapter with A80373 & A06045

The P79S brings depth intelligence to your boat. Featuring Airmar’s Smart™ Sensor technology, the P79S delivers processed depth data right to the onboard network for multiple displays to use.

The P79S includes a plastic mounting base that is aligned to the centerline and secured inside the hull. Then it is filled with non-toxic antifreeze. The transducer is inserted into the base and adjusted for the proper deadrise offset, ensuring the beam will be shooting straight down for maximum echo returns. The antifreeze provides the best medium to transmit through solid fiberglass and into the surrounding water. The major benefit of an in-hull transducer is no protruding features on the exterior of the hull, making it the perfect choice for trailered or lifted boats. Designed for smaller boats up to 8 m (25') with a solid fiberglass hull.

Airmar's Smart Sensors have embedded microelectronics—the transducer element and signal processor are only millimeters apart. The signal from the depth transducer is processed right inside the sensor itself. All that is needed to receive depth data is a single cable into a compatible network or display. Available as an analog sensor or a digital Smart Sensor that can output in the NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000® format.
