Lowrance Ghost Trolling Motor 47" Shaft for 24V or 36V Systems — Product description

The Lowrance Ghost is the brushless, fly-by-wire bow-mount that lets you sneak up on freshwater fish nobody else can. The 47-inch shaft fits bass and walleye boats with higher bows, you get 97 pounds of thrust on 24 volts or 120 pounds on 36, and a built-in CHIRP/DownScan transducer ships with it. Quiet, powerful, and tuned for tournament-grade days.

The Ghost is the trolling motor Lowrance built when they decided to compete with the established players, and it shows in the engineering choices. Brushless motor, fly-by-wire steering, integrated CHIRP and DownScan sonar in a transducer that ships in the box, and a 360-degree breakaway mount that actually does what the marketing says. The 47-inch shaft is the sweet spot for bass and walleye rigs with bow heights roughly 18 to 22 inches above the waterline.

The brushless motor is the headline feature for a reason. Brushed motors are noisy, they wear out, and they leak electromagnetic interference straight into your sonar display. Brushless flips all three of those problems. You'll hear water against the hull before you hear the Ghost running, and your fishfinder screen stays clean even at full speed. Anglers fishing finesse presentations on pressured lakes get the most out of this. You can drift over a school of suspended bass and they won't bolt because of motor noise.

Thrust is 97 pounds at 24 volts and 120 pounds at 36 volts. Most serious anglers run the 36-volt setup because that's where the Ghost really earns its keep, especially against wind or current on a bigger lake. If you're on a smaller boat with a 24-volt bank already wired, the Ghost still gives you plenty of muscle, you just won't max out the top end. Either way, the brushless design pulls about 60% better runtime efficiency than typical brushed motors, so a single charge lasts longer.

Fly-by-wire steering takes some getting used to if you've spent years on cable-steer, but the response is smooth and instant once you adjust. There's no slop, no lag, and nothing mechanical to wear out. The configurable foot pedal is one of the best parts of the whole system. It has a flip switch that lets you drive it from either side, programmable shortcut keys for waypoints or shallow-water anchor control, and quick-access keys for Anchor and Heading mode with LED feedback so you know what's engaged without looking down.

The built-in HDI nosecone transducer is what sets the Ghost apart at this price. Most trolling motors in this tier ship without sonar, and you have to buy a separate transducer and figure out how to mount it. The Ghost ships with the nosecone CHIRP and DownScan transducer integrated into the lower unit. Plug the included N2K-T network T-connector into your NMEA 2000 backbone and you're getting clean structure scans the moment you drop the motor. There's also an upgrade path to the Active Imaging 3-in-1 nosecone if you want SideScan added.

Total integration with Lowrance displays is the other reason to run this motor on a Lowrance helm. HDS LIVE, HDS Carbon, and Elite Ti2 units give you full touchscreen control of the Ghost from the chartplotter. Steer the boat, set a route, drop an anchor at a waypoint, all from the screen. If you're on a different chartplotter at the helm, the Ghost still works perfectly stand-alone from the foot pedal, you just won't get the touchscreen integration.

The 360-degree breakaway mount is engineered to deflect on impact and auto-realign after, so a hidden stump or rock won't shear the shaft. There's an integrated stabilizer bar to cut down on bouncing when you're running across rough water. Stowing and deploying use a dual-action gas spring that handles smoothly and quietly. The motor also auto-aligns the lower unit when stowing, so you don't have to fuss with positioning before the lever clicks.

Warranty is three years on the motor, which is a step above the typical two-year warranty in this class. Install needs an NMEA 2000 backbone for full integration, plus 6 gauge tinned marine cable from the bow to the battery bank to keep voltage drop in check. Plan on a couple of hours for a clean install if your boat is already wired for a 24V or 36V system.

Key Features

  • 97 pounds of thrust on 24 volts, 120 pounds on 36 volts, enough muscle for any bass or walleye boat in the 18 to 22 foot range
  • Brushless motor runs whisper-quiet and emits zero electromagnetic interference, your sonar screen stays clean at full speed
  • Built-in HDI nosecone transducer with CHIRP and DownScan, you're scanning structure the moment you deploy the motor
  • 47-inch shaft sized for higher-bow bass and walleye rigs, prop stays in the water in chop without dragging when you trim
  • Fly-by-wire steering for instant, smooth response with no cables to stretch or wear out
  • Configurable foot pedal with flip switch for left or right foot use, programmable shortcut keys, and LED-lit Anchor and Heading buttons

Frequently asked questions

How much thrust does the Ghost 47 deliver?

It puts out 97 pounds of thrust on a 24V battery bank and 120 pounds on a 36V bank. The brushless motor pulls about 60% better runtime efficiency than common brushed motors, so a single charge runs longer at any given speed.

What size boat is the 47-inch shaft right for?

It's sized for bass and walleye boats with bow heights roughly 18 to 22 inches above the waterline, and freshwater rigs up to about 22 feet. If your bow rides higher than that, look at one of the longer-shaft Ghost models.

Does sonar come with this trolling motor?

Yes. The HDI nosecone transducer is in the box and integrates into the lower unit. You get CHIRP and DownScan Imaging from the moment you deploy. Just plug the included N2K-T network T-connector into your NMEA 2000 backbone.

What's fly-by-wire steering?

It's electronic steering with no physical cables. The foot pedal sends a digital signal to the motor, so the response is instant and smooth, and there's nothing mechanical to stretch out or wear over time.

Do I need a 36V battery setup, or will 24V work?

Either works. You get 97 pounds of thrust on 24V and 120 pounds on 36V. Most tournament anglers run 36V to get the full top-end and to push through wind on bigger water. If you're on a smaller rig with a 24V bank already wired, the Ghost still has plenty of muscle.

Can I run the foot pedal with my left foot?

Yes. The pedal has a flip switch that reconfigures it for left-foot or right-foot operation, plus programmable shortcut keys you can map to waypoint drops or shallow-water anchor control.

Will it integrate with my Lowrance chartplotter?

Yes. HDS LIVE, HDS Carbon, and Elite Ti2 displays give you full touchscreen control of the Ghost from the helm, including steering, speed, route navigation, and waypoint anchoring.

Is the breakaway mount actually useful?

It is. The 360-degree mount is built to absorb impact and let the shaft deflect away from a stump or rock, then snap back into position automatically. There's also a stabilizer bar to cut down on bouncing in chop.

What's the warranty?

Three-year limited warranty on the motor, which is one of the longer warranties in this class. Register the motor with Lowrance after install and keep your receipt.

Can I use the Ghost in saltwater?

No, it's a freshwater-only motor. The corrosion protection isn't built for salt exposure, so it'll degrade fast if you put it in salt or even brackish water. If you fish salt, you'll want a saltwater-specific bow mount instead.
