Garmin GT52HW-TM Transom/Trolling Motor Transducer

The Garmin GT52HW-TM (MPN 010-12405-00) is the factory transducer designed specifically for the compatible Garmin-equipped trolling motor or transom mount trolling motor. It's the same High Wide CHIRP transducer that ships with the GT56High Wide bundled-transducer version of the Kraken, sold separately for owners who originally bought the no-transducer Kraken configuration.

What it does. The GT52HW-TM adds CHIRP traditional sonar, Garmin ClearVu (down-imaging), and Garmin SideVu (side-imaging) capabilities to your Garmin trolling motor or transom mount setup. When connected to a compatible Garmin chartplotter via the trolling motor's dedicated transducer port, you get all three sonar views on the chartplotter display. The High Wide CHIRP designation means the transducer runs at higher frequencies than standard models, producing sharper images at the same range.

The transducer mounts in the dedicated transducer cavity in the Garmin trolling motor or transom mount's lower unit. You don't need to clamp it to the motor housing or run external cable. The Kraken's transducer port is wired internally so the connection is clean and integrated. This is what makes Garmin-branded trolling motors plus transducers cleaner installs than the alternative (clamp-on transducers running external cable).

Compatibility. This specific transducer is for the transom shaft length Garmin trolling motor or transom mount. Garmin makes a different transducer (GT52HW-TM with a different sub-part number) for the 75-inch shaft Kraken. The shaft length matters because the cable length and routing inside the motor differs between models. If you have a different shaft length Kraken, contact Garmin or check the part fitment list before ordering.

The transducer works with Garmin GPSMAP chartplotters that support High Wide CHIRP sonar input, which includes the GPSMAP 7xx/8xx/9xx series and the ECHOMAP High Wide series. For older Garmin chartplotters or non-Garmin units, the GT52HW-TM may not work or may work in reduced capability. Why owners buy this transducer. The Garmin trolling motor or transom mount was sold in two configurations: one with the GT56High Wide transducer bundled in the box, and one without (the no-transducer Kraken). The no-transducer version was priced about $400-500 lower at the time of purchase. Anglers who bought the no-transducer Kraken to save money sometimes change their mind a season later and decide they want the full sonar feature set. This transducer is the path. Buy it, install it (about 30-45 minutes of bench work), and you have a Kraken that's functionally identical to the bundled-transducer version.

Install considerations. The transducer drops into the cavity in the Kraken's lower unit and connects to the pre-wired internal cable. You don't need to drill anything, run external cable, or work on the trolling motor head. It's one of the cleanest transducer installs in marine electronics, which is part of what makes Garmin-branded trolling motors attractive to owners who don't enjoy tearing into wiring jobs.

One owner consideration. Once installed, the transducer is integrated into the trolling motor and will travel with it whenever you move or replace the Kraken. If you sell the motor, the transducer goes with it. If you sell only the transducer and keep the motor (which then has an empty transducer cavity), you'll need to plug or weatherproof the cavity to prevent water intrusion.

Practical fishing impact. The combined CHIRP + ClearVu + SideVu views from the GT52HW-TM fundamentally change how you fish from a Garmin trolling motor or transom mount-equipped boat. You scan side-to-side as you idle into a bay, identify a productive piece of structure (a brush pile, rock pile, isolated weed clump, dock piling, ledge), drop a waypoint on it, and position the Kraken to fish that spot precisely. The Anchor Lock feature in the Kraken combined with the sonar coverage from this transducer is the modern bass and walleye angler standard setup. You don't need to anchor, you don't need to constantly steer, and you can see exactly where the fish are holding before you even cast.

One more note on the High Wide CHIRP designation. Standard transducers produce reasonable images at the displayed range, but the High Wide designation means the transducer uses a higher operating frequency that resolves more detail at the same range. Side-by-side, High Wide shows individual fish swimming through structure rather than blobs in the structure. For tournament anglers and serious recreational fishermen, that detail level is worth the upgrade.
