Lenco 101XDS Short Extreme Duty Trim Tab Actuator 12V 2-1/4" Stroke — Product description

The Lenco 101XDS is the shortest Extreme Duty electric trim tab actuator Lenco builds: 2-1/4-inch stroke, 10-7/8-inch overall length tip-to-tip, 12-volt drive, 500 lb of push, ballscrew mechanism, 316 stainless tubing, glass-filled UV-resistant nylon body, Anti-Extrusion Ring (AXR) seal, Plug-and-Play Deutsch waterproof connector, and 6 feet of over-molded cable. The right actuator for OEM-specific trim tab kits and tight transom installs where the standard 12-inch actuator won't fit. 5/16-inch top and end mounting hole pattern with mounting hardware included.

The Lenco 101XDS Short Extreme Duty actuator (part 15057-001) is the shortest electric trim tab actuator in the Lenco Extreme Duty line: 2-1/4-inch stroke and 10-7/8-inch overall length tip-to-tip. The actuator that fits OEM-specific trim tab kits and tight-transom retrofits where the standard-length Lenco actuator (typically 12-13 inches OAL) just won't physically fit between the transom mount and the trim tab plane. Same Lenco ballscrew mechanism and same Extreme Duty seals and stainless materials as the longer actuators, just packaged in the shortest housing Lenco manufactures.

What makes it Extreme Duty (XD). The XD line is Lenco's saltwater-rated heavy-service actuator. The internals: high-torque 12V brushed motor, planetary gearbox, and a precision ballscrew that converts motor rotation into linear actuator extension. The exterior: 316 super-buff stainless steel tubing for the actuator rod (the part that gets exposed to saltwater on every cycle), glass-fiber-filled UV-resistant nylon body for the motor housing (won't crack from sun exposure or shatter from impact the way unfilled plastic would), molded-in brass thrust bearing for high-load durability, and the Anti-Extrusion Ring (AXR) seal stabilization system that keeps the rod-side seal in place under repeated pressure cycling.

500 lb of push from a 12V motor. Lenco's ballscrew design is roughly twice as powerful as a comparably-sized hydraulic actuator and far more reliable than the older worm-screw electric actuator designs that came before it. The 500 lb push capacity is more than enough to drive the largest Lenco trim tab plane against the maximum hydrodynamic load you'll see at full WOT planing speed on a heavy boat. For typical trim tab use (raising and lowering the tab a few thousand times over a season), the actuator runs at well under its rated load.

Plug-and-Play Deutsch connector. The over-molded 6-foot cable terminates in a Deutsch waterproof connector, the same connector Lenco's other Extreme Duty actuators use. Plug it into the matching Deutsch socket on the Lenco wiring harness from the helm switch (or from the auto-glide controller, if you're running auto-glide), it's connected. No bare-wire splicing, no heat-shrink butt connectors, no risk of corrosion working into the connection over time. The Deutsch system is the same one used on heavy equipment and military vehicles where waterproof electrical connections matter.

2-1/4-inch stroke for short-throw OEM kits. The 2-1/4-inch stroke is the right stroke for the smaller Lenco trim tab kits (the 9 x 9 inch and 9 x 12 inch tab planes that ship on smaller OEM boats) and for the auxiliary applications where you need short linear actuation (transom door lifts, hatch lifts, swim platform lifts on smaller boats). It's not the right actuator for the larger 12 x 12, 12 x 18, or 18 x 24 trim tab planes, which need the longer-stroke standard or XD actuators to drive the bigger tab through its full angular range.

5/16-inch top and end mounting holes with hardware included. Both the top mounting hole (motor housing end) and the end mounting hole (rod tip end) are 5/16-inch diameter for the included 5/16-inch mounting hardware. Standard Lenco mounting hardware kit included: clevis pins, cotter rings, and the bracket fasteners. The 5/16-inch hardware size is the standard for the Short XD actuator on the smaller Lenco tab kits and is the size most OEM installations expect.

Anti-Extrusion Ring (AXR) seal stabilization. The AXR seal stabilization system is a Lenco design improvement over the older XD generation. The anti-extrusion ring sits inboard of the primary rod seal and prevents the seal material from extruding into the gap between the rod and the housing under high-pressure events (the kind of pressure spikes that happen when the tab is fully retracted against the transom and you push the down switch hard). Result: the seal lasts significantly longer in service and the actuator stays watertight for a longer service life than the pre-AXR Lenco actuators or the typical generic ballscrew actuator.

Stronger top cap and improved internal components. The current-generation XD actuators have a stronger top cap and mounting clevis design (handles higher impact loads from rough-water boat handling), improved pressure-tight Torx screws (replacing the slot-head Phillips screws of older generations that could strip under hand-tool service), an integrated wiper seal at the actuator base (sweeps salt and grit off the rod on every retraction), molded-in brass thrust bearing (replacing the previous-generation thrust washer for higher load capacity), thicker and stronger motor housing wall (more impact resistance), and an improved O-ring design for more consistent sealing across temperature swings.

Over-molded cable. The 6-foot motor cable is over-molded onto the actuator body rather than attached via a separate gland fitting. The over-mold creates a watertight seal at the cable entry point that doesn't depend on a tightening clamp or a removable seal that could loosen and leak over time. For a part that lives mostly underwater on the back of a transom, the over-mold is the right approach.

Mounting orientation and clearance. The actuator mounts horizontally between the transom-mounted upper bracket and the trim tab plane, with the rod end attached to the tab via the included clevis pin. Required clearance: 10-7/8 inches between mount points when the tab is fully retracted (rod fully retracted), plus the 2-1/4 inch stroke extension distance to fully deploy the tab. Outer diameter is 2-1/2 inches so allow a couple inches of clearance around the actuator body for cable routing and any service access.

Compatibility. The 101XDS replaces older 101 XD short actuators (the original generation and the prior XD generation) directly. It's also a drop-in for OEM-specific Lenco trim tab kits that called for the 2-1/4-inch stroke actuator from the factory. Cross-references include older Lenco part numbers for the 2-1/4 inch stroke 12V actuator. If you're not sure whether your boat takes the short or the standard XD, measure the distance between your mounting brackets fully retracted (should be roughly 10-7/8 inches for the short, roughly 12-1/2 to 13 inches for the standard).

What's in the box. One 101XDS Short XD actuator with the over-molded 6-foot cable and Deutsch connector, the 5/16-inch mounting hardware kit (clevis pins, cotter rings, fasteners), and the install instruction sheet.

Note on California Prop 65. The actuator carries a Prop 65 warning for DEHP. This is a standard label on flexible cable jackets and over-mold materials and isn't unique to this part. If you're in California, the warning is required by state law for any product containing the listed chemicals.

Lenco Marine warranty applies (typically 3 years on the XD actuator line, check Lenco's current warranty terms for the specific coverage). Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the right actuator for my Lenco trim tabs?

It's the right actuator if your trim tab kit calls for the 2-1/4 inch stroke / 10-7/8 inch overall length Lenco actuator. That's typically the smaller OEM-supplied trim tab kits that ship on factory boats from certain manufacturers, and certain limited-space retrofit installations. If you're not sure, measure the distance between the upper transom mounting bracket and the trim tab clevis with the tab fully retracted: about 10-7/8 inches means the short XD, about 12-1/2 to 13 inches means the standard-length XD.

Will it replace my old short Lenco actuator?

Yes. The 101XDS is a direct replacement for older Lenco 101 XD Short actuators (the original 101 short and the prior-generation XD short). The mounting hole pattern, stroke length, and overall length are the same. The 101XDS adds the current-generation Anti-Extrusion Ring seal, stronger top cap, Torx assembly screws, and improved O-rings.

What's the difference vs. the standard 12-inch Lenco actuator?

Stroke length and overall length. The 101XDS short is 2-1/4 inch stroke and 10-7/8 inch overall length. The standard 101 XD is 5 inch stroke and roughly 12-1/2 inch overall length. The standard actuator is the right choice for the larger trim tab planes (12 x 12 and bigger) that need the longer stroke to swing through their full angular range. The short XD is for the smaller tab planes and tight-space installs.

How much weight can it push?

Lenco rates the XD actuator at 500 lb of push. For typical trim tab use, the hydrodynamic load on the tab at full WOT planing speed is well under that rating, so the actuator runs at a small fraction of its rated capacity. The 500 lb capacity also makes the XD actuator suitable for some auxiliary applications (hatch lifts, transom door lifts, swim platform lifts on smaller boats) within the stroke and overall-length constraints.

How long is the cable?

6 feet of over-molded cable, terminating in the Plug-and-Play Deutsch waterproof connector. The 6-foot length covers the typical run from the transom-mounted actuator to the wire chase that goes up to the helm switch panel. For longer runs, Lenco sells extension harnesses with matching Deutsch connectors at each end.

What kind of connector?

Deutsch waterproof connector. Same connector used on the rest of the Lenco Extreme Duty actuator line and on Lenco's wiring harnesses from the helm switch and auto-glide controller. No bare-wire splicing required at install. Plug the actuator into the matching socket on the Lenco harness, the connection is sealed against water intrusion. The Deutsch connector is the industry-standard heavy-equipment waterproof connector.

What does the AXR seal do?

AXR (Anti-Extrusion Ring) is the seal stabilization system Lenco added to the current-generation XD actuators. The anti-extrusion ring sits inboard of the primary rod seal and prevents the seal material from extruding into the gap between the rod and the housing under high-pressure events (which happen when the tab is fully retracted and you push the down switch). Without AXR, the seal can deform over many cycles and eventually leak. With AXR, the seal stays in shape and lasts significantly longer.

Is it actually saltwater rated?

Yes. The 316 super-buff stainless tubing is the saltwater-grade stainless that resists pitting corrosion in extended saltwater service. The glass-filled nylon motor housing doesn't corrode at all. The integrated wiper seal sweeps salt and grit off the rod on every retraction so abrasive deposits don't grind into the rod seal. For boats that fish saltwater all season, the XD actuator is the right Lenco actuator choice.

What's the warranty?

Lenco Marine warranty applies. Lenco's current XD actuator warranty is typically 3 years for trim tab use, but check the specific terms in the warranty document that ships with the actuator (the warranty period varies by application). Service runs through the Lenco authorized service network.

Why the California Prop 65 warning?

The over-molded cable jacket contains DEHP, a plasticizer that California has classified as a reproductive harm chemical under Proposition 65. The same plasticizer is in the flexible cable jackets of essentially all marine-grade wiring products. The warning is a state-of-California legal requirement, not a unique-to-this-product safety issue.

What's included in the box?

One 101XDS Short XD actuator with the over-molded 6-foot cable and Deutsch connector, the 5/16-inch mounting hardware kit (clevis pins, cotter rings, fasteners), and the install instruction sheet.

Does it work with auto-glide?

Yes. The 101XDS is a standard Lenco XD actuator and plugs into Lenco auto-glide controllers via the same Deutsch connector. Auto-glide automatically adjusts trim tab position based on boat pitch and roll. For boats wired with auto-glide, the 101XDS is a drop-in replacement actuator.
