I'm using this as an on/off switch for my home solar system, not for use on a boat. It's designed for flexible mounting as the sides can be added/removed so your cables can be attached from four different sides. You should know this thing has huge 3/8" terminals so keep that in mind when you are buying lugs or cables with preinstalled lubs. I'm going to have to drill out the holes on some of my cables to connect to this switch. Turning power on/off is a bit different for DC power than AC, which is why if you want to use circuit breakers you need ones made to handle DC. The spark you get disconnecting DC power can keep sparking over if the contacts are too close together, and it tends to burn the contacts. A switch like this is designed for DC use.
