Cannon Adjustable Dual Axis Rod Holder for Track System — Product description

The Cannon Adjustable Dual Axis Rod Holder turns the Cannon Track System into a customizable rod-stowage and trolling station that fits the way you actually fish. 360-degree rotation at the push of a button, six up-and-down locking positions, a pistol grip release for one-handed angle changes, ratcheting vertical adjustment, polished aluminum construction, and the UV-resistant end cap that keeps your reel from getting beat up. Drops onto the Cannon Track System in seconds and locks in solid for trolling.

The Cannon Adjustable Dual Axis Rod Holder (part 1907002) is the rod holder for serious trollers who run the Cannon Track System on their gunwale. 10 inches of polished aluminum holder, 360-degree rotation at the push of a button, six up-and-down locking positions for getting the rod tip exactly where you want it, a pistol grip release that lets you change the rod angle one-handed without putting the boat on autopilot, and the ratcheting vertical adjustment that lets you fine-tune the holder position without ever having to remove a rod from the holder. Built for trollers who care about presentation angle and need to change it on the fly.

What makes this a dual axis holder. Two axes of adjustment: rotation around the vertical (which sets which direction the rod points relative to the boat), and tilt up and down (which sets the rod tip height and presentation angle). A single-axis holder only swivels horizontally, which is fine for stowage but bad for trolling because you can't dial in the strike-zone depth without messing with line. The dual axis design lets you set both axes independently from a comfortable working position, lock both in, and run.

The pistol grip release is what separates the Cannon system from cheaper aftermarket holders. Squeeze the grip and the holder unlocks for repositioning, release the grip and it locks back in solid. One hand to operate, the other hand stays on the rod. With cheaper holders, you'd need to set the rod down, fiddle with both hands to unlock the holder, hold the unlocked holder while you re-aim, and then re-lock. The pistol grip turns that into a one-second one-handed motion that you can do mid-strike without losing fish.

360 degrees of horizontal rotation means you can point the rod tip at any angle around the boat. Trolling forward, point the holder dead astern. Drift fishing, point the holder out off the side. Stowed for run-out, point everything inboard so the rods don't snag. The detent system lets you feel discrete locking positions as you rotate, so you can re-set the same angle pass after pass without having to eyeball it.

Six up-and-down locking positions on the vertical axis cover the practical range from horizontal (rod tip out and parallel to the water for crankbait or spinnerbait trolling) to nearly vertical (rod tip up high for keeping line away from prop wash on close-in offshore trolls). The ratcheting adjustment between positions is firm enough to hold under load but easy enough to operate one-handed.

The track-mount foot is the Cannon Track System base that drops onto any Cannon Track rail (sold separately if you don't already have track on your boat). The track system is the smart way to organize a fishing boat: install the track once on the gunwale, and you can clip rod holders, downriggers, electronics mounts, cup holders, planar boards, and other accessories into the same rail. Move them around, swap them between trips, slide them out for transport. The same Cannon Track System that runs your downriggers will run these rod holders without any additional hardware.

Polished aluminum construction is the right material choice for big-water salt or freshwater use. Stainless hardware where it matters, anodized aluminum on the structural parts, and the polished finish that looks good on a center console or sportfish deck. It won't corrode the way that pot-metal aftermarket holders do, and it won't crack under a hard strike the way that plastic budget holders sometimes do.

The UV-resistant end cap is the small detail that makes a real difference over a season of use. The end cap sits at the bottom of the rod tube and cushions the rod butt against the holder body. Without it, your rod butt grinds against bare aluminum every time you set the rod, which scuffs the rod finish and eventually wears through cork or EVA grips. With it, the rod sits soft and the cosmetic and grip wear stays in check. The cap is replaceable when it eventually wears out.

The 10-inch holder length is the right size for the typical conventional or spinning combo used in trolling and bait fishing. Long enough to hold the rod butt securely with several inches of rod inside the tube, short enough to not interfere with reel handles or low-profile reels. Most rods from medium-light spinning up through heavy conventional trolling rods fit comfortably.

Installation. If you already have Cannon Track on the boat, the holder slides onto the track and locks down with the integrated knob. About 30 seconds. If you don't have track yet, install a length of Cannon Track on the gunwale (typical install uses through-bolted stainless hardware with backing plates) before installing this holder. The track is sold in standard lengths and you cut to fit your gunwale span.

What this holder isn't. It is not a flush-mount rod holder for a permanent gunwale-recess install (Cannon makes those separately, but they don't move once installed). It is not a downrigger-style trolling clamp. It is not a tournament-grade gimbal-fight rod holder rated for heavy offshore tuna or marlin loads. It is the right rod holder for the inshore-to-mid-offshore trolling, drift fishing, salmon and trout fishing, walleye trolling, and stowage roles where the boat runs at moderate speed with rods set out for the troll.

Frequently asked questions

Does this come with the Cannon Track or do I need to buy that separately?

You need the Cannon Track separately. This rod holder mounts onto the Cannon Track System but doesn't include the track itself. If you already have Cannon Track on the boat (for downriggers or other Cannon accessories), this holder drops right on. If not, install a length of Cannon Track on the gunwale first, then this holder.

What does dual axis actually mean?

Two axes of independent adjustment: horizontal rotation around the vertical (which way the rod tip points relative to the boat), and tilt up-and-down (the rod angle relative to horizontal). Single-axis holders only adjust one. Dual axis lets you set both independently, which matters for trolling because the rod-tip height affects how the lure runs in the water column. With a single-axis holder, you can't dial in presentation depth without changing line length. With dual axis, you can.

How does the pistol grip release work?

Squeeze the grip and the holder unlocks. Reposition the rod to the angle you want. Release the grip and the holder locks back in. One-handed, takes a second. The release engages both axes at once so you can change rotation and tilt in a single motion. Cheap aftermarket holders need two hands and tools or wing-nut adjusters that take much longer.

Will it hold up to saltwater use?

Yes. Polished aluminum body, stainless hardware on the load-bearing connections, and the Cannon track-mount foot is corrosion-rated for marine use. Rinse with fresh water after use like you'd rinse any other deck hardware. The holder will live on a saltwater boat for years.

What size rods will it fit?

Most spinning, casting, and trolling combos fit comfortably. The 10-inch holder length and the standard Cannon rod tube diameter accommodates handle butts from light spinning rods up through medium-heavy conventional trolling rods. Heavy offshore trolling rods with oversized gimbals or fight belts may not fit, but for the typical inshore through mid-offshore range this holder covers it.

Can I troll heavy with this?

Yes for moderate trolling loads (downrigger trolling, planar trolling, salmon and trout, walleye, stripers, light to mid offshore). It's not the right holder for tournament-grade heavy offshore tuna or marlin loads where you'd want a gimbaled fight rod and a dedicated heavy-duty rod holder. For the typical recreational and light commercial troll, it's plenty strong.

How does it lock to the track?

The track-mount foot has a clamping mechanism with an integrated locking knob. Slide the holder onto the track at the end, position it where you want, tighten the knob. The holder locks down to the track and won't slide under load. To remove or reposition, loosen the knob and slide. About 30 seconds either way.

Can I leave it mounted year-round?

Yes. UV-resistant materials and corrosion-rated construction mean leaving it mounted on the gunwale through the season is fine. For long-term off-season storage, removing it (just slide it off the track) protects it from UV exposure and keeps the moving parts clean. The track itself stays on the boat.

What's the difference between this and the Cannon flush-mount rod holders?

Flush-mount rod holders are permanently installed in a gunwale recess: you cut a hole, drop in the holder, bolt it down. They don't move and they don't adjust. This adjustable track-mount holder is the opposite: it slides on and off the Cannon Track and adjusts on both axes. The right choice depends on whether you want fixed dedicated stowage (flush-mount) or flexible adjustable trolling positions (this holder).

Will this work with downriggers?

This rod holder is designed to coexist with Cannon downriggers on the same Cannon Track System. Run the downrigger at one end of the track, the rod holders at other positions along the same track. The integrated track ecosystem is one of the main reasons to invest in the Cannon Track System on your boat in the first place: one rail handles the downriggers, rod holders, electronics mounts, and other accessories.

What's in the box?

The rod holder with the track-mount foot, the UV-resistant end cap installed in the holder tube, the locking knob, and the install instructions. The Cannon Track itself is sold separately if you don't already have it on your boat.

What's the warranty?

1-Year Limited Cannon warranty. Service runs through the Cannon authorized dealer network in the U.S.
