Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 Side Imaging Fish Finder
Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 Side Imaging Fish Finder — Product description
The Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 is the 7-inch keyed fish finder / chartplotter combo with CHIRP Side Imaging (sweeps 800 feet to either side of the boat at 455 kHz), CHIRP Down Imaging (down to 400 feet of detail under the boat), Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D sonar (wide and narrow modes), internal GPS with Humminbird Basemap of more than 10,000 U.S. lakes plus continental U.S. coastal coverage, and AutoChart Live for real-time custom contour mapping of your home water. The keyed soft-key interface stays usable in rough water with wet hands. Includes the XNT 9 HW SI T transom-mount transducer and the gimbal mount.
The Humminbird HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 (part 411920-1) is the side-imaging-equipped 7-inch fish finder / chartplotter combo at the high-feature point of the HELIX 7 line. CHIRP Side Imaging for the wide horizontal view that reveals fish-holding structure off to the sides of the boat, CHIRP Down Imaging for high-detail vertical view of structure directly below, Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D sonar for traditional fish arches and bottom contour, internal precision GPS with the Humminbird Basemap of North American lakes and U.S. coastal waters preloaded, AutoChart Live for real-time custom mapping of waters you fish, and the soft-key keypad interface that stays usable in rough water with wet hands.
What CHIRP Side Imaging adds vs. traditional sonar. Traditional 2D sonar shows you a vertical slice of the water column directly under the boat - useful, but it misses everything to either side of the boat's track. Side Imaging sweeps high-frequency sonar pulses out to either side of the boat (port and starboard) and renders the returns as a near-photographic horizontal view of the bottom out to roughly 800 feet to each side at 455 kHz. Drop-offs, brush piles, dock pilings, weed lines, fish-holding structure - all visible in the side view as you idle along. CHIRP processing on the side imaging gives you sharper structure separation than fixed-frequency Side Imaging.
CHIRP Down Imaging. Down Imaging uses higher acoustic frequencies than traditional 2D sonar to produce a near-photographic image of structure directly below the boat. CHIRP processing of the Down Imaging signal filters out noise and clutter for a cleaner view than fixed-frequency Down Imaging. Down Imaging maxes out at 400 feet at 455 kHz, which covers virtually all freshwater fishing depths. The Down Imaging view sits next to the Side Imaging view in the typical split-screen for a complete picture of what's under and beside the boat at any moment.
Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D sonar. Dual Spectrum CHIRP gives you two CHIRP modes selectable from the menu: Wide Mode (140-200 kHz, broader sonar cone, maximum coverage area) and Narrow Mode (180-240 kHz, tighter cone, sharper individual target separation). Wide Mode for surveying water and locating fish-holding zones. Narrow Mode for confirming exactly what you found and counting individual fish in tightly-grouped schools. The Low-Q CHIRP transducer that ships with the unit handles both modes.
Internal GPS with Humminbird Basemap. The internal GPS receiver provides accurate position fix for waypoint placement, navigation, and chart display. The Humminbird Basemap covers more than 10,000 U.S. lakes plus continental U.S. coastal waters: lake outlines, river mainlines, navigation aids, marina symbols, depth markers. Enough detail for safe navigation on most waters out of the box. For higher-resolution lake-specific contours and shaded relief, add a LakeMaster, CoastMaster, or compatible Navionics chart card via the microSD slot.
Premium chart compatibility. The HELIX 7 G4 accepts LakeMaster (high-resolution inland lake charts), CoastMaster (high-resolution coastal saltwater charts), Navionics Gold / HotMaps, and Navionics Platinum+ chart cards. The widest chart compatibility in the consumer fish finder market. Pick the chart card that matches your fishing waters and your preferred level of bottom detail.
AutoChart Live custom mapping. AutoChart Live records depth and GPS position as you drive over the water, then builds real-time custom depth contour maps of the area you've covered. Useful for mapping smaller waters that aren't covered in detail on commercial chart cards. Standard AutoChart Live records up to 8 hours per session and stores maps to the microSD card. Adding the AutoChart Live Zero Lines update unlocks essentially unlimited recording for serious mapping projects.
Keypad control with soft-key menu. The HELIX 7 G4 uses a keypad interface (not a touchscreen). The keypad has dedicated buttons for the main view types (sonar, chart, Down Imaging, Side Imaging, etc.) plus the directional arrows for cursor work. Soft keys (the labeled buttons that change function based on what's on screen) handle the context-specific menu options. The keyed interface stays usable in rough water with wet hands - which is most fishing days - where touchscreens get washed out by water droplets and erratic touch input.
2,750 waypoints, 45 routes, 50 saved tracks. The internal storage holds 2,750 waypoints, 45 routes, and 50 saved tracks (up to 20,000 track points total). Plenty for most anglers' fishing-spot databases. For backup or for moving waypoints between units, export to / import from microSD card via the standard waypoint export menu.
AIS and autopilot compatibility. The HELIX 7 G4 supports AIS receive (with a separate AIS receiver, sold separately) and connects to compatible autopilot systems for chartplotter-driven navigation. Wire the AIS receiver's NMEA 0183 output to the HELIX 7's NMEA 0183 input, and AIS targets show up on the chart for vessel awareness in busy commercial channels and reduced-visibility conditions.
Heading sensor compatible. For boats running advanced features that depend on heading data (Side Imaging accurate placement, autopilot, sonar feature integration), add an external heading sensor. The HELIX 7 G4 accepts heading data from compatible NMEA-connected GPS / heading sensors.
Power and electrical. 10.8-20 VDC input range (standard 12V boat electrical works). 800 mA typical current draw. 4000 watts peak-to-peak / 500 watts RMS sonar power output. The unit's power cable has an in-line fuse and connects to switched 12V on the boat's accessory panel.
Transducer included. Ships with the XNT 9 HW SI T transom-mount transducer (the dual-purpose transducer that handles all four sonar functions: Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D, CHIRP Down Imaging, CHIRP Side Imaging, and the temperature reading). 20-foot cable. The transducer mounts to the transom below the lowest part of the running surface so the face stays in the water at speed. For trolling-motor mounting, you'd buy the same XNT 9 HW SI T transducer in the trolling-motor variant separately.
What's in the box. HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G4 control head, XNT 9 HW SI T transom-mount transducer with 20-foot cable, gimbal mounting bracket, power cable with in-line fuse, install instructions, and operations manual. Required separately: 12V DC power source for the unit, transom drilling hardware (if no existing transducer mount location), and any premium chart cards for your fishing area beyond the included Humminbird Basemap.
Mounting. The included gimbal bracket lets the unit pivot on the bracket arm for easy viewing-angle adjustment from any helm seat position. Bracket-mount is the typical install. For owners who want a clean flush dash mount, an in-dash mounting kit is available separately as a Humminbird accessory.

Frequently asked questions
What does Side Imaging give me that Down Imaging doesn't?
Side Imaging sweeps high-frequency sonar to either side of the boat (port and starboard) and renders the returns as a near-photographic horizontal view of the bottom out to roughly 800 feet to each side at 455 kHz. That covers a huge area on either side of the boat's track in one pass. Down Imaging only shows what's directly under the boat. For finding fish-holding structure (drop-offs, brush piles, dock pilings, weed lines) you don't have to drive directly over to find, Side Imaging is the right tool. For confirming exactly what's under the boat once you find it, Down Imaging is sharper.
What's the difference vs. the MEGA SI G4 model?
The CHIRP SI on this unit operates at 455 kHz. The MEGA SI variants operate at higher frequencies (around 1.2 MHz for MEGA) which produce significantly more detail at any given depth and at any given side range. The trade-off: MEGA's higher frequencies don't penetrate as deep, so MEGA SI maxes out at shorter side ranges than CHIRP SI. CHIRP SI is the better choice for boats that fish in deeper water or further from shore. MEGA SI is the better choice for shallower-water structure fishing where the extra detail matters more than the maximum range.
What's Dual Spectrum CHIRP vs. regular CHIRP?
Dual Spectrum CHIRP gives you two selectable CHIRP modes: Wide Mode (140-200 kHz, broader sonar cone for maximum coverage) and Narrow Mode (180-240 kHz, tighter cone for sharper individual target separation). Most CHIRP fish finders only give you one fixed mode. Dual Spectrum lets you switch between Wide for surveying water and Narrow for getting tight detail on what you found.
Does it come with a transducer?
Yes. The XNT 9 HW SI T transom-mount transducer is in the box (with 20 feet of cable). It's the dual-purpose transducer that handles all four sonar functions: Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D, CHIRP Down Imaging, CHIRP Side Imaging, and temperature reading. For trolling-motor mounting, you can buy the same XNT 9 HW SI T transducer in the trolling-motor variant with the appropriate mount kit, sold separately.
What charts does it support?
The widest chart compatibility in the consumer fish finder market: LakeMaster (high-resolution inland lake charts), CoastMaster (high-resolution coastal saltwater charts), Navionics Gold, Navionics HotMaps, and Navionics Platinum+. Plus the included Humminbird Basemap covers more than 10,000 U.S. lakes plus continental U.S. coastal waters out of the box. Add a chart card to the microSD slot for higher-resolution detail on your specific fishing area.
What's AutoChart Live?
AutoChart Live records depth and GPS position as you drive over the water, then builds real-time custom depth contour maps of the area you've covered. Useful for mapping smaller waters that aren't covered in detail on commercial chart cards. Standard AutoChart Live records up to 8 hours per session and stores maps to the microSD card. Adding the AutoChart Live Zero Lines update unlocks essentially unlimited recording.
Is it touchscreen?
No - the HELIX 7 G4 uses a keypad interface with directional arrows, dedicated buttons for main view types, and soft keys for context menus. The keyed interface stays usable in rough water with wet hands, which is most actual fishing days. For touchscreen, the SOLIX series is Humminbird's touchscreen line.
Does it have built-in GPS?
Yes. Internal GPS receiver provides accurate position fix for waypoint placement, navigation, and chart display. For boats that need heading data in addition to position (for advanced sonar accuracy and autopilot compatibility), add an external NMEA-connected heading sensor or the AS GPS HS antenna with built-in heading sensor as a separate purchase.
Will it work with my AIS receiver?
Yes, with a compatible NMEA 0183 AIS receiver. The HELIX 7 G4 doesn't have NMEA 2000 (that starts at HELIX 9 and up), so AIS connection is via NMEA 0183. Wire the AIS receiver's NMEA 0183 output to the HELIX 7's NMEA 0183 input, configure the input source in the menu, and AIS targets show up on the chart.
Will it drive my autopilot?
Yes, with a compatible NMEA 0183 autopilot computer. The HELIX 7 sends route and waypoint navigation data to the autopilot over NMEA 0183 for chartplotter-driven autopilot navigation. Check your autopilot's input compatibility before assuming it'll work.
How does it mount?
Gimbal bracket-mount is included. The bracket pivots so you can adjust the viewing angle from any helm seat position. For owners who want a clean flush-in-dash mount, the in-dash mounting kit is sold separately as a Humminbird accessory.
What's the warranty?
1-year limited Humminbird warranty. Service runs through the Humminbird authorized service network in the U.S.
