Minn Kota Terrova 80 Trolling Motor 24V 80lb 60" Wireless Remote — Product description

The Minn Kota Terrova 80 is the bow-mount GPS trolling motor with 80 pounds of thrust on 24 volts, a 60-inch composite shaft, and the full Advanced GPS Trolling System (Spot-Lock with Jog, AutoPilot, recorded paths, speed and steering control). The premium boat-control package: wireless remote with LCD screen, heading sensor, corded electric foot pedal, Weedless Wedge 2 prop, Digital Maximizer for up to 5x longer run time, push-to-test battery meter, mobile app control. Indestructible composite shaft guaranteed for life. The trolling motor that lets you fish a productive spot all day with the boat anchored on GPS without touching anything.

The Minn Kota Terrova 80 (part 1358380) is the freshwater bow-mount GPS trolling motor for mid-sized walleye boats, bass boats, and the rest of the 17-22-foot fishing boat fleet that wants the full Minn Kota boat-control suite (Spot-Lock with Jog, AutoPilot, recorded paths, wireless remote, foot pedal, mobile app) on 24-volt power with a 60-inch shaft and 80 pounds of thrust. It's the workhorse Terrova that keeps you on the fish, on the spot, and on the water all day.

What 80 pounds of thrust and 24 volts gets you. 80 lb of thrust is the right thrust class for typical 17-22-foot freshwater fishing boats: enough head-on power to push the boat against decent wind and current, and enough lateral steering force to correct heading when wind hits the bow at an angle. 24 volts (two 12V batteries in series) doubles the available motor wattage compared to a 12V trolling motor without doubling current draw, which means smaller-gauge cable runs and longer per-charge run time. The 60-inch shaft length suits boats with the typical 18-22 inch bow-to-water distance and keeps the prop submerged in chop.

Advanced GPS Trolling System. The Terrova's GPS receiver and onboard processor work together to manage boat position. Drop a Spot-Lock waypoint and the trolling motor automatically thrusts and steers to hold the boat on that GPS coordinate against wind and current. Set a recorded path and the motor follows it again later. Set a heading and AutoPilot maintains it regardless of wind side-load. Speed and steering can be controlled from the wireless remote's LCD screen, from the corded foot pedal, or from the mobile app. That's the integration that makes Terrova the standard against which other GPS trolling motors are measured.

Spot-Lock with Jog. One press of the Spot-Lock button drops a waypoint at your current location and locks the boat to that exact spot. The motor handles all the work: thrust forward when wind pushes the boat back, thrust back when wind pushes it forward, steer left and right to fight side-load. Jog (enabled by the included heading sensor) lets you bump the locked spot 5 feet in any direction without releasing and re-engaging Spot-Lock. Useful when you want to scoot a few feet over structure without losing the GPS lock entirely.

AutoPilot. Point the motor in the direction you want to travel, tap AutoPilot, and the trolling motor maintains that heading regardless of wind side-load. The boat tracks straight even when wind hits the bow at a 30-degree angle. Tap AutoPilot again to disengage and you're back to manual steering. Combined with variable-speed Digital Maximizer thrust control, you'll run AutoPilot at any speed from a slow walleye troll to a fast structure-traversal pace.

Digital Maximizer. The microprocessor-based motor controller delivers exactly the motor power needed for the speed setting you've dialed in, instead of the old-school constant-current resistor system that wastes power at low speeds. The result: up to 5 times longer run time per battery charge compared to non-Digital trolling motors. For typical fishing-day trolling at speed settings 3-5, a deeply-discharged-friendly battery pair can run all day without needing recharge.

Push-to-test battery meter on the motor head. Tap the button on top of the trolling motor and the LED bar shows current battery state. No reaching for the head unit, no consulting the chartplotter, just a quick tap to know how much battery you've got left. Useful for deciding whether to head back to the launch or fish another hour.

Weedless Wedge 2 prop (MKP-33). The swept-back flared blades cut through weed growth that would chop and tangle a traditional prop. The prop power-strokes through floating algae, submerged grass, lily pads, and the rest of the freshwater vegetation field without battery-draining chopping motion. For weedy water (which is most fish-holding water), the Weedless Wedge 2 saves significant battery and reduces the need to reverse-prop weeds free.

Indestructible composite shaft (lifetime guaranteed). The composite material flexes under impact rather than bending or breaking. Hit a stump, run aground, take an impact, and the shaft springs back to straight. Minn Kota guarantees it for life: if it ever bends or breaks, they replace it. The lifetime guarantee covers the most common failure mode of older trolling motors at no cost to the owner.

Power steering means the motor steers via electric power-steering, not via direct cable pull from the foot pedal. The result: the steering effort at the foot pedal stays light regardless of motor load, and the response is precise. The system also makes possible the GPS-controlled steering since electronic steering can be commanded by the GPS controller as well as by the foot pedal.

Wireless remote with LCD screen and lanyard. The remote puts all the controls in your hand: Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, speed, steering, mode display. The LCD screen shows current speed setting, GPS position, battery state, and active mode at a glance. The lanyard keeps the remote on your wrist or around your neck so it doesn't drop overboard.

Corded foot pedal included. It's the same low-profile waterproof Minn Kota pedal sold separately as part 1866077: heel/toe rocking plus left/right buttons for two steering modes, Spot-Lock activation, AutoPilot toggle, momentary / constant toggle, rotary speed dial, 18-foot waterproof cable. Drive the boat from the foot pedal, from the remote, from the mobile app, or let GPS drive it. All four work simultaneously.

Mobile app compatible. The Minn Kota mobile app on iOS or Android pairs with the trolling motor via wireless link for control of speed, steering, Spot-Lock, and AutoPilot. The app also handles software updates so the trolling motor's firmware stays current with new features Minn Kota releases over time.

One-Boat Network compatible. Pair Terrova with compatible Minn Kota fish finders for cross-device control: drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder, send the trolling motor to a fishing waypoint set on the chartplotter, see trolling motor status on the fish finder display. The integration unlocks workflows that aren't possible with stand-alone components.

Bolt-on bow mount. The Terrova mounts to the bow deck via the included bolt-on mount plate (drill the four mount holes or use existing ones if upgrading from a previous Minn Kota). The Lift-Assist mechanism makes manual stow and deploy possible with one hand even with 80 lb of trolling motor weight on the lever.

What's in the box. Terrova 80 lb 60-inch motor with Advanced GPS, wireless remote with lanyard, heading sensor, corded electric foot pedal, MKP-33 Weedless Wedge 2 prop, bolt-on bow mount and mounting hardware. Required separately: two 12V deep-cycle marine batteries, 6-AWG (or heavier) battery cable, and a 60A inline circuit breaker on the positive cable.

Frequently asked questions

Is 80 lb thrust the right size for my boat?

80 lb of thrust on 24 volts suits mid-sized freshwater fishing boats from about 17 to 22 feet. The general Minn Kota guideline: 5 lb of thrust per 200 lb of fully-loaded boat weight. A 3500 lb fully-loaded fishing boat needs about 88 lb of thrust to handle wind and current confidently. The 80 lb Terrova is right at the sweet spot for most walleye boats, bass boats, and multi-species boats in the 17-22 ft range. For boats over 22 ft or for big-water (heavy current, big waves) use, step up to the 112 lb Terrova on 36 volts.

What batteries do I need?

Two 12-volt deep-cycle marine batteries wired in series (positive of battery 1 to negative of battery 2, then power the trolling motor from battery 1's negative and battery 2's positive). Group 27, Group 31, or 12V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) of at least 100 amp-hours each are typical. Lithium gives more usable amp-hours per pound and faster recharge but costs significantly more. Group 31 AGM is the cost-effective long-life option. Don't use starting batteries (they aren't designed for the deep-discharge cycles trolling motor use puts them through).

How long does it run on a charge?

Run time depends on speed setting and battery capacity. Typical fishing-day use at speed settings 3-5 with two Group 31 deep-cycle AGM batteries: 8-12 hours of mixed trolling and Spot-Lock holding. At full thrust the same setup runs about 1-2 hours. Digital Maximizer makes a real difference: at low-to-mid speed settings, the Terrova draws much less current than a non-Digital trolling motor at the same speed.

What's Spot-Lock with Jog?

Spot-Lock drops a GPS waypoint at your current location and uses the trolling motor to hold the boat on that exact spot regardless of wind and current. The motor automatically thrusts forward, back, left, and right to maintain position. Jog (enabled by the included heading sensor) lets you bump the locked spot 5 feet in any direction without releasing and re-engaging Spot-Lock. So if you're locked on a spot but want to scoot 5 ft toward a piece of structure, tap Jog in that direction and the boat moves there and re-locks.

How accurate is the GPS hold?

Spot-Lock typically holds the boat within a few feet of the locked position under typical wind and current conditions. In strong wind or fast current the boat may swing through a slightly larger circle as the trolling motor works to maintain position, but the average hold position stays right on the GPS coordinate. Performance is best in open water with clear sky for the GPS receiver. Heavy tree cover near shore can degrade GPS performance somewhat.

Can I control it from my chartplotter?

Yes, with a compatible Minn Kota fish finder on One-Boat Network. The two devices pair via the Network and you can drop Spot-Lock from the fish finder, send the trolling motor to a waypoint set on the chartplotter, and see trolling motor status on the fish finder display. For non-Minn Kota chartplotters, the trolling motor still has its full Spot-Lock and AutoPilot capability via the included wireless remote and foot pedal.

What does Digital Maximizer actually do?

Digital Maximizer is the microprocessor-based motor controller that delivers exactly the amount of motor power needed for the speed setting you've dialed in. Older non-Digital trolling motors use a constant-current resistor system that wastes power at low speeds (the resistor burns the unused power as heat). Digital Maximizer eliminates that waste, so at low-to-mid speed settings the Terrova draws much less battery current than a non-Digital trolling motor at the same speed, which is why Minn Kota claims up to 5x longer run time per charge.

Does it come with the foot pedal?

Yes. The corded electric foot pedal is included in the box. It's the same low-profile waterproof pedal Minn Kota sells separately as part 1866077: heel/toe rocking plus left/right buttons for two steering modes, Spot-Lock activation, AutoPilot toggle, momentary / constant toggle, rotary speed dial, 18-foot waterproof cable.

Does it come with a wireless remote?

Yes. The wireless remote with LCD screen and lanyard is included in the box. The remote handles speed, steering, Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, and mode display. The lanyard keeps the remote on your wrist or around your neck so it doesn't drop overboard.

Is this saltwater rated?

No. The Terrova is the freshwater Minn Kota line. For saltwater use, the Riptide Terrova is the same motor with saltwater-grade construction (sealed bearings, sacrificial anodes, corrosion-resistant materials). Don't use the freshwater Terrova in saltwater. The corrosion will quickly destroy the motor and the warranty does not cover saltwater damage.

Will it fit my boat?

It bolts onto the bow deck via the included bolt-on mount plate. Standard Minn Kota mount-plate footprint. If you're upgrading from a previous Minn Kota bow-mount trolling motor, the existing four mount holes may line up directly. If you're installing fresh, drill four holes through the bow deck according to the supplied template. The 60-inch shaft works for boats with about 18-22 inches from the bow deck to the water surface. For higher-bow boats (deeper-V hulls, jon boats with built-up bow platforms), step up to the 72-inch or 87-inch shaft variant.

Does it have built-in sonar?

No. The Terrova 80 does not have a built-in transducer. For built-in sonar, see the Terrova MEGA Down or MEGA SI variants which include a built-in transducer puck on the trolling motor head. For the standalone 80 lb Terrova, you can run any compatible transom-mount or thru-hull transducer from your fish finder separately.

What's covered by warranty?

Two-year limited motor warranty on the trolling motor itself, plus the lifetime warranty on the indestructible composite shaft. The shaft warranty is one of the standout features: if the composite shaft ever bends or breaks under normal use, Minn Kota replaces it for free for the life of the motor. Service runs through the Minn Kota authorized dealer network in the U.S.

What about installation?

Most owners install the trolling motor themselves over a couple of hours: drill the bow mount holes (or use existing ones if upgrading), bolt down the mount plate, set the trolling motor on the mount, plug the foot pedal cable into the motor's pedal port, run battery cables from the bow to the battery compartment with a 60-amp inline circuit breaker on the positive cable, connect the batteries in series. The owner's manual has detailed step-by-step instructions and wiring diagrams. For owners who don't want to DIY the install, any marine dealer can do it in a half-day shop visit.
