TACO GS-380-LE Grand Slam Outrigger Mounts, Pair — Product description

The TACO GS-380-LE Grand Slam Outrigger Mounts (sold as a pair) take the work out of deploying offshore outriggers. The unique crank-lift mechanism lifts the outrigger pole up to 45 degrees from a comfortable under-top position, the 30-degree offset handle gives you hand clearance under a hardtop, and the detented outward-rotation handle locks at every 22.5 degrees so you set the spread angle exactly the way you want it. Cast stainless steel and machined aluminum construction for serious offshore tournament use on boats 25 to 40 feet.

The TACO Marine GS-380-LE Grand Slam Outrigger Mounts (model GS-380-LE, sold as a pair) are the GS-390 body paired with the GS-380 arm assembly. Together this combination is the crank-lift Grand Slam configuration that lets you deploy and retract long offshore outrigger poles from a standing position under the hardtop without climbing onto the canopy or fighting the pole over your head. The right mount for serious offshore sportfish and large center consoles in the 25 to 40 foot class running 18 to 24 foot outrigger poles for tournament-spread trolling.

What this mount is for. Big offshore boats with hardtops or T-tops where deploying outriggers by lifting them by hand from above is awkward, tiring, or unsafe in chop. The crank-lift mechanism does the lifting work for you: turn the integrated crank handle and the lifting cable raises the outrigger pole through its full vertical travel up to 45 degrees from horizontal. From the same comfortable under-top position you also rotate the pole horizontally outward into trolling position. Both operations from one location, no climbing, no overhead lifting.

The crank-lift mechanism is the patented feature (U.S. patent 7114283) that distinguishes the GS-380 / GS-390 series from the simpler manual Grand Slam mounts. The crank handle folds flush into the base when not in use, so it doesn't snag on rigging or interfere with mate movement around the deck. Pull it out, crank, fold it back. The lifting force is geared down enough that one hand on the crank can raise an 18-foot pole from stowed to fully deployed in about 20 seconds without any heavy lifting.

The 30-degree offset handle is the same offset that the GS-2801 and other Grand Slam mounts use. Under a hardtop, a straight handle on a top mount sits directly under the canopy fabric or hardtop edge, which means you can't reach it without bending awkwardly. The 30-degree offset rotates the handle outward so it clears the canopy and falls naturally to hand from the working position under the top. Combined with the crank-lift mechanism that already keeps you under the top, the offset handle means everything happens at a comfortable working position.

The detented outward-rotation handle locks at every 22.5 degrees through the full horizontal rotation arc. This means you set the spread angle and it locks there positively, instead of just relying on friction to hold the pole at the chosen angle. For tournament fishing where multiple boats are running similar trolling patterns and where minor angle differences can determine which baits get hit and which don't, the detented angles let you reproduce successful patterns trip after trip without guessing.

Vertical lift up to 45 degrees gives you the working range needed to deploy long poles in conditions where you can't go over the top. From fully horizontal stowed position to about 45 degrees up, the crank handle controls the lift. From 45 degrees to fully vertical for high-deploy tournament patterns, the pole moves through the upper part of its travel under its own weight as you tip it past the crank's range. The combination handles essentially every realistic outrigger deployment scenario.

Build is the same Grand Slam build standard. Cast stainless steel structural components on the load-bearing surfaces, machined aluminum on the body. Polished finish on the visible stainless for both corrosion resistance and the clean appearance that complements high-end sportfish helms. The cast stainless is heavier and more durable than the welded fabricated stainless on lower-end mounts, and it doesn't have weld joints that can fatigue and crack under sustained load.

Pole compatibility. Designed for the standard TACO outrigger pole base diameters used across the heavy-duty Grand Slam line. Compatible with TACO 1.5 inch heavy-duty Telescoping TeleOutriggers (the most common pole in the segment), and with the larger 2 inch Tele-Outrigger poles for serious offshore tournament use. Pole length recommendation: 18-foot poles for boats up to about 30 feet, 20 to 22 foot poles for 30 to 36 feet, 22 to 24 foot poles for the larger boats in this mount's recommended range.

The 4 inch by 6 inch mounting base bolts to the industry-standard TACO Outrigger-Ready Mounting Plate (which most quality boat builders pre-install on the hardtop frame). For boats without the pre-installed plate, TACO Clamp-On Mounting Plates are the aftermarket retrofit option. Designed for hardtops up to 2.5 inches thick.

What this mount isn't. It is not the smaller GS-280 series Grand Slam (which is the manual top mount for smaller center consoles in the 20 to 36 foot range without crank-lift). It is not a clamp-on or rail-mount outrigger holder for casual installation. It is not the rigger-spec mounts in the TACO line for very large sportfish boats over 40 feet running 26+ foot poles (those use a different mounting standard with even higher load ratings).

Note: this product may not be returned to the original point of purchase per TACO's policy. Contact TACO Marine directly with any warranty or service issues. 3-Year Limited TACO warranty on the GS-380-LE. Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

Why crank-lift instead of manual?

Long offshore outrigger poles (18 to 24 feet) are heavy and awkward to lift by hand from a position under the hardtop. Doing it manually means either climbing on top of the canopy to lift the pole vertically, or fighting the pole's weight from below at an awkward angle. The crank-lift mechanism does the lifting work for you: turn the integrated crank handle and the lifting cable raises the pole through 45 degrees of vertical travel from a comfortable under-top working position. Faster, easier, safer, and a lot less tiring at the end of a long fishing day.

What's the difference between the GS-380-LE and the regular GS-380?

The GS-380-LE pairs the GS-390 body with the GS-380 arm, which is the long-extension variant of the standard GS-380 setup. For longer outrigger poles or for boats that need the additional clearance, the GS-380-LE is the right configuration. For shorter poles and smaller boats, the standard GS-380 may be more appropriate. Confirm with your TACO dealer or rigging professional which variant matches your outrigger pole length and your hardtop geometry.

What size boat is this for?

Designed for boats 25 to 40 feet, which covers the range of mid-size center consoles up through smaller sportfish where outriggers and crank-lift are practical. For smaller boats under 25 feet, the GS-280 series Grand Slam mounts are more appropriate. For very large sportfish boats over 40 feet running 26+ foot poles, look at the heavier rigger-spec mounts in the TACO line.

What outrigger poles does it accept?

Designed for TACO 1.5 inch heavy-duty Telescoping TeleOutriggers (the most common offshore outrigger pole) and for the larger 2 inch Tele-Outrigger poles. Pole length recommendation: 18-foot poles for boats up to about 30 feet, 20 to 22 foot poles for 30 to 36 feet, 22 to 24 foot poles for the larger boats in this mount's recommended range.

Why does the detented handle matter?

The detented outward-rotation handle locks at every 22.5 degrees through the full horizontal rotation arc. This means you set the spread angle and it locks positively, instead of relying on friction to hold the pole at the chosen angle. For tournament fishing where consistent trolling patterns matter, the detents let you reproduce successful angles trip after trip. With friction-only mounts, you have to eyeball the angle every time and you can't be sure you set the same spread you ran last week.

How does it mount to my T-top or hardtop?

The 4 inch by 6 inch mounting base bolts to the industry-standard TACO Outrigger-Ready Mounting Plate, which most quality boat builders factory-install on the hardtop frame. If your hardtop doesn't have the plate, TACO Clamp-On Mounting Plates are the aftermarket retrofit option. Hardtops up to 2.5 inches thick are supported. Detailed install instructions and bolt patterns are in the install manual.

Where does the crank handle go when not in use?

It folds flush into the base of the mount, so it doesn't snag on rigging, lines, or mate movement around the cockpit. Pull it out when you need to crank, fold it back when you're done. The flush-fold design is what lets the crank-lift live in the cockpit area without becoming a hazard.

How does it handle saltwater corrosion?

Cast stainless steel structural components and machined aluminum body, polished finish on the visible parts. Cast stainless is more durable than welded fabricated stainless and doesn't have the weld-joint fatigue issue. With normal saltwater use and standard rinse-down maintenance, the mounts hold up for many years without pitting, staining, or fatigue cracking.

Is this a pair or a single mount?

A pair. The GS-380-LE part number ships as port and starboard mounts in one box, so a single order outfits the boat with both outriggers. The pricing reflects the pair.

How do I match this unit to my boat?

Size by interior volume and insulation: roughly 1,000 BTU per 100 cubic feet for well-insulated cabins, 1,500 BTU for older boats with limited insulation, and bump up further for boats kept in tropical climates or with large glass areas. Confirm the existing AC mounting footprint and ducting layout match before ordering, and verify breaker amperage on the panel side. Your installer can size the system in 15 minutes from boat dimensions and location.

What's in the box?

Two GS-380-LE outrigger top mounts (one port, one starboard), the install / mounting hardware, and the install instructions. The outrigger poles themselves are sold separately. The TACO Outrigger-Ready Mounting Plate (or Clamp-On Plate) is sold separately if you don't already have one factory-installed on the hardtop.
