Raymarine Axiom 2 XL 16 - 15.6 inch Glass-Helm MFD

The Axiom 2 XL 16 is Raymarine's 15.6-inch member of the Axiom 2 XL family, the flagship glass-helm chartplotter line that sits above the standard Axiom 2 Pro displays. It's built for owners who want big-screen navigation in a slim-bezel housing that fits the same footprint as the previous-generation Axiom XL 16, with a substantial processor upgrade, a brighter touchscreen, and an expanded PoE Ethernet backbone underneath.

The display itself is what most owners notice first. It's a 15.6-inch diagonal HydroTough panel with a nano-coating that sheds water on contact, which is the difference between confident touchscreen operation in spray and the frustration of a wet finger registering as a phantom touch. The bezel is deliberately slim so the active glass takes up almost the entire front face, useful on tightly packed helms where every inch of real estate matters. A built-in ambient light sensor drives smart backlighting that ramps brightness on a sunny offshore deck and dims gracefully at dusk without you having to babysit the brightness slider.

Internally, the Axiom 2 XL runs on a six-core processor that is the headline performance upgrade from the original Axiom XL. Pan and zoom on charts is buttery, the radar and sonar engines render at their full native rates, and multi-app workflows (chart plus radar plus engine data plus FLIR thermal feed) stay responsive without the lag that smaller-processor MFDs show under load. Sixty-four gigabytes of internal storage hold LightHouse charts, waypoints, routes, screen recordings, and the LightHouse app library.

Networking is where the XL chassis really separates from the Axiom 2 Pro models. Three RayNet Ethernet ports, all of them Power over Ethernet, mean you can wire up a CAM300 thermal or IP camera, an RMK-10 remote keypad, and a sonar module like the RVM1600 without running separate power to each accessory. A standard NMEA 2000 port pulls in engine, tank, fuel, and instrument data, an HDMI output lets the display drive a remote slave monitor at the salon or on the flybridge, and the HDMI input plus USB touchscreen pass-through lets a remote PC run on the same glass.

The LightHouse 4 operating system carries the same workflow you know from the smaller Axiom 2 displays. ClearCruise augmented reality overlays AIS targets, waypoints, and chart objects onto live video when paired with the AR200 attitude sensor and a CAM300 camera. RealVision Max sonar (via the RVM1600 module) delivers down-vision, side-vision, and 3D fish targeting with the highest sonar resolution Raymarine currently ships. Smart sailing tools, laylines, polars, sailing dashboards, race timer, are baked in for sailors. Doppler radar overlay (with Cyclone or Magnum open arrays, or Quantum 2 domes) tracks moving targets in color-coded MARPA tracks.

Engine integration is unusually deep on this generation. Beyond standard NMEA 2000 engine gauges, the Axiom 2 XL talks directly to Mercury SmartCraft and Yamaha Command Link for full engine telemetry, trim, fuel-flow, and fault-code reporting on the chart screen. The YachtSense Link router pulls remote-app monitoring and over-the-air updates into the same ecosystem.

Power handling is built for real glass-helm installations. The display accepts 8 to 32V DC at the main connector and pulls 76.56 W at 12V or 71.53 W at 24V in active operation. Both the main supply and the PoE supply tolerate the same wide range, so the same boat can run the helm on 12V at the breaker panel and feed PoE accessories without a separate converter. Off-state current draw is 352 mA at 12V without PoE, useful spec for owners worried about house-bank drain on long marina stays. The fuse rating on the main supply is 15 A.

Dimensions are 248.22 mm (9.77 in) tall by 394.9 mm (15.55 in) wide by 174.95 mm (6.89 in) deep with cables, so the upgrade from a manual-generation Axiom XL 16 is a drop-in swap on most installations, no template re-cut. Mounting hardware is the standard Axiom XL flush-mount pattern. Waterproof rating is IPX6 and IPX7, suitable for open cockpits and exposed flybridges, and the operating temperature range from -25C to +55C (-13F to 131F) covers arctic to tropical service.
