Lowrance HDS PRO 16 Chartplotter with DISCOVER OnBoard, No Transducer — Product description

Lowrance HDS PRO 16-inch fishfinder and chartplotter with pre-loaded C-MAP DISCOVER OnBoard charts covering 19,000+ US lakes and 9,400+ Canadian lakes with 1-foot contour detail. 16-inch SolarMAX HD touchscreen at 1920 by 1080 full HD, ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar ready, Active Imaging HD ready, dual Ethernet networking for multi-display rigs, Ghost Trolling Motor 360 chart overlay support. No transducer included.

The HDS PRO 16 is Lowrance's flagship angler chartplotter at the top of the HDS PRO lineup, sized for serious bass tournament boats, walleye boats, and offshore sport-fishing setups that want the biggest possible HDS PRO display at the helm or the bow. The 16-inch SolarMAX HD touchscreen at 1920 by 1080 full HD resolution is what justifies the price. Brightness rated above 1200 nits handles direct sun even through polarized sunglasses, and the 80-degree viewing angles top, bottom, left, and right keep the picture readable from the helm chair, the cockpit, and the bow when more than one person is reading the screen at the same time.

This SKU specifically ships with C-MAP DISCOVER OnBoard charts pre-loaded but without a transducer. The DISCOVER OnBoard chart pack covers 19,000+ US lakes and 9,400+ Canadian lakes with 1-foot contour detail, plus coastal vector charts, custom depth shading, and the standard navigation aids and hazard markers. For most North American tournament anglers, the DISCOVER OnBoard pack covers the waters they fish without needing to add a separate chart card. Premium chart upgrades (C-MAP REVEAL, Navionics, custom regional packs) are available separately for owners who fish outside the DISCOVER coverage or want higher-detail bathymetry on specific waters.

The PRO designation in the HDS PRO 16 name calls out the sonar feature set. ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar support means you can pair this chartplotter with the ActiveTarget 2 transducer kit for real-time forward, down, and scout-mode live sonar that shows fish reacting to your lure in motion. ActiveTarget 2 is the upgraded second-generation Live Sonar with improved range and sharper detail than the original ActiveTarget. The HDS PRO 16 supports dual ActiveTarget 2 systems, which is what advanced tournament anglers use to run forward live sonar on one transducer and down/scout live sonar on a second transducer simultaneously. Active Imaging HD is the high-frequency CHIRP plus SideScan plus DownScan transducer family that handles the conventional sonar workflow. The 1.2 MHz SideScan and DownScan frequency on the HD variant gives you noticeably sharper imaging than the original Active Imaging frequencies. FishReveal merges the CHIRP fish-arch view with the SideScan or DownScan picture so individual fish stand out from structure without manual interpretation.

Connectivity is what makes the HDS PRO 16 the central hub of a fully connected fishing rig. Two Ethernet ports support up to 6 networked MFDs on a single boat-wide network for sharing sonar history, waypoints, and routes across multiple stations. NMEA 2000 Micro-C connection covers the standard instrument network for engine data, fuel monitoring, autopilot, AIS, and VHF radios. Built-in Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) handles software updates, chart sync, and pairing with the C-MAP Genesis Live real-time mapping service for building custom contour maps as you fish. Bluetooth 4.0 with Classic support handles smartphone notifications and pairing with compatible wireless accessories. Touchscreen control of Power-Pole shallow-water anchors, the Lowrance Ghost trolling motor, Lowrance Outboard Pilot autopilots, and other connected accessories happens through the same chartplotter screen, keeping the helm uncluttered. The large programmable hard keys at the bottom of the unit handle critical operations when wet or gloved fingers make pure touch operation difficult.

One install consideration. The HDS PRO 16 has no built-in transducer, so you'll need to add one (or more) separately based on how you fish and what sonar features you want. For Active Imaging HD plus standard CHIRP, the HDI XSonic skimmer or one of the Active Imaging HD transom-mount transducers is the typical pick. For ActiveTarget 2 Live Sonar, the ActiveTarget 2 transducer kit with the LSS-3D black box is the separate purchase. We can spec the right transducer mix for your boat and fishing style before you order, since the HDS PRO 16's sonar capabilities don't matter if you don't have the right transducer to drive them.

Frequently asked questions

Is a transducer included?

No. The HDS PRO 16 ships with the chartplotter and pre-loaded charts but no transducer. You'd add an Active Imaging HD transducer for transom-mount CHIRP/SideScan/DownScan operation, and/or the ActiveTarget 2 kit (with the LSS-3D black box) for forward live sonar. Tell us how you fish and we'll spec the right transducer combination before you order.

What's pre-loaded in the DISCOVER OnBoard chart pack?

1-foot contours on 19,000+ US lakes and 9,400+ Canadian lakes, plus coastal vector charts, custom depth shading, navigation aids, and hazard markers. The DISCOVER OnBoard pack covers most of the waters North American tournament anglers fish. For waters outside the coverage area or for higher-detail bathymetry, premium C-MAP REVEAL and Navionics chart options are available separately.

What's ActiveTarget 2 and do I need it?

ActiveTarget 2 is the second-generation Lowrance Live Sonar that shows fish reacting to your lure in real time. The transducer plus a black-box processor mount on the trolling motor and feed live forward, down, or scout-mode video to the chartplotter. For serious bass and walleye anglers, ActiveTarget 2 is the feature most operators upgrade to first. The HDS PRO 16 specifically supports dual ActiveTarget 2 systems, which lets you run forward and down/scout sonars simultaneously.

Can I network multiple HDS PRO units?

Yes. The dual Ethernet ports support up to 6 MFDs on a single boat-wide network. Sonar history, waypoints, routes, and trolling motor control sync across all the networked units. The most common tournament rig is a 16-inch HDS PRO at the bow plus a 12-inch HDS PRO at the console, networked together so the angler at the bow and the captain at the console see the same picture.

What's the difference between HDS PRO 16 and HDS PRO 12?

Same hardware platform, same software, same feature set. The HDS PRO 16 has the 16-inch full HD display. The HDS PRO 12 has the 12-inch full HD display. For bow units where every inch of screen matters when you're trying to read live sonar in motion, the 16-inch is the upgrade. For console units where space is tight, the 12-inch fits cleaner.

Does it control my trolling motor?

Yes if your trolling motor is a Lowrance Ghost. Touchscreen control covers anchor lock, steering, route following, and speed. For non-Ghost trolling motors with NMEA 2000 integration, basic monitoring and some control may work, but full screen control is specific to Ghost. The Lowrance Outboard Pilot autopilot also runs from the same touchscreen interface.

What's the boat-side power requirement?

Typical draw is 3 amps at 13V DC with full backlight and sonar running. Maximum is 4.1 amps. Recommended fuse rating is 5A. The chartplotter accepts standard 10-17V DC house bank input. A 35 Ah deep-cycle handles a full tournament day at full brightness.

What's in the box?

The HDS PRO 16 chartplotter with C-MAP DISCOVER OnBoard pre-loaded, mounting hardware (bracket and flush-mount template), power cable, NMEA 2000 drop cable, and the installation manual. No transducer, no microSD chart cards. Any additional transducers or chart upgrades are separate purchases.

Can I add real-time custom mapping?

Yes. C-MAP Genesis Live is built into the chartplotter and creates custom 1-foot contour maps of the waters you fish in real time as you motor along, layering the data on top of the C-MAP base chart. Genesis Live is one of the practical reasons tournament anglers stick with Lowrance: the real-time mapping has been the best in the industry for years.

What's the warranty?

Lowrance's standard marine electronics warranty applies. 2-year limited on the chartplotter. Coverage details are on the warranty card. Lowrance's customer service handles warranty work directly.
