Simrad NSS12 evo3S Chartplotter/Fishfinder MFD (No HDMI Out) — Product description

The Simrad NSS12 evo3S is the 12-inch all-weather multifunction display for serious helms that don't need HDMI output. SolarMAX IPS touchscreen with optical bonding, the iMX8 quad-core processor, dual transducer ports, 1kW CHIRP plus ForwardScan sonar, HALO radar ready, and preloaded C-MAP US Reveal cartography. The 12-inch sweet spot for center consoles, walk-arounds, and cruising sailboats.

The Simrad NSS12 evo3S is the 12-inch sweet spot in the NSS evo3S line. Bigger than the NSS9, more dash-friendly than the NSS16, and priced where most boaters end up landing when they spec out a real helm without going to a full glass-bridge install. This is the NSS12 evo3S no-HDMI variant, which lops the HDMI output port off the back of the unit. If you don't plan to mirror to an external monitor, the no-HDMI version is the right call and saves you money over the full-feature variant.

The 12-inch SolarMAX IPS display is the right size for most center consoles, walk-arounds, convertibles, and cruising sailboats. The screen reads clearly through polarized sunglasses (which is the failure mode of cheaper non-IPS panels), and the optical bonding eliminates the air gap between LCD and cover glass that causes condensation in older non-bonded units. 1280 by 800 resolution with the wide viewing angles of an IPS panel.

The iMX8 quad-core processor is the upgrade over the older evo3 generation that you actually feel. Multiple split-screen views, chart panning, sonar scrolling, radar scanning, and AIS targets all running at once with no lag. Older glass-bridge MFDs lagged on transitions, sometimes catastrophically when you needed a new view in a hurry. The evo3S is fluid by comparison.

Sonar. Built-in 1kW CHIRP sonar engine for high-power deep-water and offshore work. Dual transducer ports on the back, so you can run two transducers at once (typical install: a transom transducer for everyday work plus a thru-hull or in-hull for deeper water). Active Imaging 3-in-1 transducer support gives you SideScan, DownScan, and CHIRP in one unit. ForwardScan sonar support gives you a forward-looking view ahead of the boat, which prevents grounding when you're navigating unfamiliar shallow water at low speed.

Charting. Preloaded with high-resolution US inland and coastal C-MAP charts, plus a C-MAP Reveal layer of the Florida ocean floor that's notably good for reef fishing and offshore navigation. The unit accepts additional cartography from C-MAP, Navionics, CMOR, and Florida Marine Tracks on the SD card slot. Chart orientation has a one-button toggle between North Up, Heading Up, and Course Up so you don't have to dig into menus during a tight pass. The Tide Graph lives in the instrument bar so you can monitor tide changes without leaving your active page.

The Simrad UI on the evo3S got real attention from the engineering team. The dark-themed wallpaper option reduces light pollution at the helm during night running, important when you're running a multi-screen install that would otherwise wash out your night vision. The audio sidebar can expand to a full-page view when you actually want to dig into your audio source.

Wireless connectivity. Built-in WiFi mirrors the display to compatible iOS and Android devices via the Simrad app, so you can read charts, sonar, engine data, and radar from your phone or tablet anywhere on the boat. The same WiFi handles online software updates over any internet hotspot, plus access to the Simrad app for device registration, manual downloads, waypoint sync, and personal-spot management.

Networking. Two Ethernet ports for high-speed display, sonar, and radar networking. NMEA 2000 for engine data, fluid levels, autopilot, and the broader vessel network. NMEA 0183 input on the multi-function cable for older devices. Composite video input on the back for analog cameras, plus support for IP cameras over Ethernet. The HDMI output is the one feature this variant gives up. If you need HDMI for an external monitor or video distribution, look at the standard NSS12 evo3S with HDMI (a separate SKU).

Radar. HALO Pulse Compression radomes and HALO open-array radars all integrate over the Ethernet network. HALO is the Simrad solid-state radar line that gives you simultaneous short-range and long-range coverage on a single dome, plus Doppler bird and target tracking. For offshore boaters running in fog, busy harbors, or after dark, the HALO + NSS12 combination is one of the best collision-avoidance setups in the recreational market.

Thermal imaging. The unit integrates with FLIR M-Series thermal cameras over Ethernet for night running and situational awareness. Pan, tilt, and full image control from the touchscreen.

Weather. Add the Simrad WM-4 SiriusXM Marine Weather receiver and a SiriusXM Marine subscription for offshore weather data, weather radar, lightning, storm warnings, sea surface temperature, and Fish Mapping data overlaid on the chart. The combo turns the NSS12 into a real offshore decision-support tool.

Autopilot. Native integration with Simrad autopilots over the network, including the AC42, AC70, and AP44 autopilot computers. Waypoint navigation and route following are managed from the MFD with the autopilot doing the actual steering.

What's in the box. The NSS12 evo3S display, bezel trim, U-bracket kit (gimbal mount), panel mounting kit, power cable kit, and documentation pack. Sun cover sold separately.

2-year limited Simrad warranty. Same-day shipping before 3 PM ET on in-stock units.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between this and the standard NSS12 evo3S?

This is the no-HDMI variant. It lacks the HDMI output port that the standard NSS12 evo3S has, but everything else is identical. If you don't plan to mirror the unit to an external monitor or distribute video to a flybridge display, the no-HDMI version is the right call and saves money. If you need HDMI for any reason, get the standard variant instead.

Does it ship with a transducer?

No. The MFD has the sonar engines built in but you'll need to spec a transducer separately based on your hull and fishing style. Common pairings: an Active Imaging 3-in-1 transom transducer for typical inshore and recreational fishing, a thru-hull 1kW CHIRP transducer for offshore deep-water work, or an Airmar B175 series for serious offshore. We can help spec the right transducer for your boat.

What charts come preloaded?

Preloaded with high-resolution US inland and coastal C-MAP cartography, plus a C-MAP Reveal layer of the Florida ocean floor. You can supplement with C-MAP, Navionics, CMOR, or Florida Marine Tracks on the SD card slot if you fish other regions or want different chart products.

What's the difference between evo3 and evo3S?

The evo3S adds the iMX8 quad-core processor (page loading is roughly twice as fast as evo3), the SolarMAX IPS display panel with improved sunlight visibility and wide viewing angles, dual transducer ports (older evo3 had a single port), and the updated UI with one-button chart orientation, expandable audio sidebar, and Tide Graph in the instrument bar. The evo3 isn't bad but the evo3S is meaningfully better at every interaction.

Can I network it with another Simrad MFD?

Yes. Two Ethernet ports let you network this unit with additional NSS evo3S, NSO evo3S, or older Simrad displays for a multi-station glass bridge. Sonar, charts, waypoints, routes, radar, and cursor position all share across the network. NMEA 2000 handles engine and vessel data on the broader backbone.

What's the best radar for this MFD?

Simrad's HALO line is the native pairing. HALO Pulse Compression radomes (HALO20, HALO20+, HALO24) for smaller boats and HALO open-array radars for sportfishers and bigger cruisers. HALO offers simultaneous short and long-range coverage on a single dome plus Doppler bird and target tracking. It's one of the strongest collision-avoidance combinations in the recreational market when paired with the NSS12.

What boat size is the 12-inch right for?

The 12-inch is the popular sweet spot for boats roughly 22 to 35 feet, including center consoles, walk-arounds, convertibles, and cruising sailboats. On smaller boats the 9-inch evo3S is easier to fit at the helm and saves money. On larger boats with helm real estate to spare, the 16-inch NSS evo3S is genuinely transformative for split-screen work.

How does the Simrad app work?

Built-in WiFi mirrors the display to your phone or tablet via the Simrad app on iOS and Android. You can view charts, sonar, engine data, radar, and AIS targets remotely. The app also handles waypoint sync, software update notifications, and access to your spot management when you're off the boat. Reliable as a second-screen for the cockpit or flybridge.

What kind of cameras does it support?

Two paths. Composite analog video input on the back of the unit for traditional analog marine cameras, and IP cameras over Ethernet for modern setups. The unit also natively supports FLIR M-Series thermal cameras with full pan and tilt control from the touchscreen.

What voltage does it run on?

12 or 24V DC, with broad acceptance across the range. Power and external alarm share the multi-function cable. Maximum power consumption is 28 watts. Use marine-grade tinned wire on a dedicated circuit for clean sonar imagery.

Does it work in saltwater?

Yes. The unit is rated IPX6 / IPX7 for full marine helm use, including direct spray and brief submersion. Operating temperature range is 5F to 131F. The Simrad evo3S line is the standard for serious offshore and inshore saltwater installs.

How long is the warranty?

2-year limited Simrad warranty backed by the Simrad authorized dealer network. Service is handled through dealers in the U.S. and we can connect you with one if you ever need service.
