Raymarine i70s Wireless Wind With DST800, Heading Sensor Product Description

Imagine slicing through the water on your racing sailboat or high-performance cruiser, with every puff of wind, ripple of current, and shift in heading feeding into a cohesive network of instruments that deliver razor-sharp insights. The Raymarine i70s Wireless Wind system paired with the DST800 transducer and EV1 heading sensor forms a powerhouse setup tailored for sailors who demand precision without the hassle of tangled cables. This kit transforms your cockpit into a command center, blending cutting-edge wireless technology with proven marine-grade reliability to elevate your performance on the water.

Unlock Superior Sailing Performance

For competitive sailors and avid cruisers, accurate real-time data isn't a luxury—it's essential. This system excels by providing true wind calculations through advanced airflow and yaw compensation algorithms. Gone are the days of distorted readings from masthead turbulence; the vertical wireless transducer positions sensors optimally high above the rigging, capturing clean data even in gusty conditions. Pair that with the EV1's 9-axis motion sensing, which filters out boat heel, pitch, and roll for stable heading and refined wind angles, and you have laylines, polar diagrams, and tactical decisions backed by trustworthy metrics.

Sailors report noticeable gains in upwind speed and VMG (velocity made good) thanks to the system's fast refresh rates and low-latency wireless transmission. Whether you're trimming sails for a fleet race or plotting a coastal passage, the vibrant color display on the i70s instrument pulls it all together—wind speed, apparent/true angles, depth, SOG, COG, and more—customizable to your sailing style.

Breakdown of Essential Components

This thoughtfully curated kit equips you with everything needed for a plug-and-play SeaTalkng backbone, minimizing downtime and setup frustration:

  • Micro-Talk Wireless Performance Sailing Gateway: The bridge between wireless sensors and your wired network, enabling seamless data flow without compromising speed or accuracy.
  • T222 Wireless Vertical Masthead Transducer: Solar-powered for endless operation, its extended vertical design defeats sail-induced updrafts, delivering pinpoint wind data wirelessly.
  • T113 Multifunction Wireless Remote Display: Handheld control for on-the-go adjustments, perfect for helming in tight maneuvers.
  • i70s Multifunction Color Instrument: Crisp LCD screen with intuitive rotary controls, showing layered data pages for wind, speed, depth, and navigation at a glance.
  • EV1 Evolution Heading Sensor: Self-calibrating solid-state unit that stabilizes inputs for autopilots, radar overlays, and instrument accuracy, even in rough seas.
  • DST800 Through-Hull Transducer: Bronze or plastic options for depth, boat speed, log, and sea temperature, integrating flawlessly via NMEA2000 compatibility.
  • Complete Networking Kit: Power cables, backbone, terminators, T-connectors, and blocks for a robust, expandable foundation.

Each piece is ruggedized for the marine environment—IPX6/IPX7 waterproofing ensures it thrives in spray, rain, or rogue waves.

Wireless Freedom Meets Wired Precision

What sets this system apart is its hybrid architecture. The Micro-Talk Gateway unlocks the potential of lightweight, cable-free wind sensors, transmitting data at high speeds across the SeaTalkng bus. No more drilling through masts or routing heavy cables—installation is as simple as mounting the gateway belowdecks and pairing the transducer. For rotating masts on wing-sail rigs, add the optional mast rotation sensor to maintain true wind integrity as the rig twists.

Integration extends to Raymarine multifunction displays running LightHouse software, overlaying wind data with charts for dynamic laylines and startline functions. The EV1's sophisticated processing yaw-corrects wind and speed data, mimicking the accuracy of a full-motion reference unit (MRU) at a fraction of the cost and complexity.

Gain a Tactical Edge in Racing and Cruising

Racers love how this setup fuels data-driven decisions: spot header/lifts early with true wind trends, optimize VMG with speed-through-water calibration, and nail mark roundings with precise depth and heading holds. Cruisers benefit from reliable temp/depth for anchoring and SOG/heading for efficient passages. Low power draw—especially with solar-assisted wireless components—means less battery drain during long offshore legs.

Users highlight the i70s's glare-resistant screen for night sailing and its analog-style dials overlaid on digital precision, mimicking traditional instruments while adding modern smarts like alarms for wind shifts or shallow water.

Build and Expand Effortlessly

Start with this core kit and scale up seamlessly. Add more i70s units for distributed readouts, wireless remote displays for crew, or integrate with Evolution autopilots for wind-based steering. Compatible with a vast ecosystem of transducers, VHF radios, and AIS, it future-proofs your boat. Quick-release mounts and standardized connectors make upgrades straightforward, even mid-season.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the wireless wind transducer more accurate than traditional cup anemometers?

The T222's vertical design elevates sensors above turbulent airflow from sails and rigging, combined with onboard algorithms that compute true wind by accounting for boat speed and heading. This yields cleaner data than horizontal cup setups prone to updrafts.

Is the EV1 heading sensor suitable for autopilot integration?

Yes, the EV1 provides a stable, NMEA2000-compatible heading output ideal for autopilots. Its 9-axis gyro-compass self-calibrates and compensates for vessel motion, delivering professional-grade performance without a traditional fluxgate compass.

How does the DST800 transducer enhance speed and depth readings?

It combines depth, speed-over-ground, speed-through-water, and temperature in one thru-hull unit with intelligent signal processing for reliable readings in varied conditions, reducing fouling impact and improving log accuracy over paddlewheel sensors.

Can this system work with rotating masts?

Absolutely. Pair it with the optional wireless mast rotation sensor to track rig angle and compute accurate true wind data for wing-sail or canting keel boats.

What's the power consumption like for wireless components?

Extremely efficient—the T222 is solar-powered, drawing minimal energy from the network only when needed, making it perfect for energy-conscious setups on long voyages.

How customizable is the i70s display?

Highly—create up to 10 personalized pages with gauges, graphs, and digital readouts for wind, depth, heading, or any SeaTalkng data, controlled via rotary dial or wireless remote.

Is installation beginner-friendly?

Yes, the included backbone kit and wireless pairing simplify setup. Mount transducers, connect the network, power up, and calibrate—typically done in a weekend without specialized tools.

Equip your vessel with this integrated system and feel the difference in every tack and gybe. It's not just instruments; it's the edge that turns good sails into winning runs.
