Garmin Spy Pole 49" Motorized Pole Mount

Garmin built the Spy Pole for anglers who run LiveScope hard and want real control over what they're looking at. Instead of a fixed transducer that points wherever the boat happens to face, the Spy Pole motorizes the whole thing. You aim your sonar, lock it on a target, and sweep an area without touching the wheel or spinning the boat. On this 49-inch model, the shaft length is sized for a 57-inch Force or Force Pro trolling motor, so the geometry works out right when it's mounted up front.

The real magic is in the control modes. SpyLock is point-locking. Drop it on a brush pile, a rock mound, or a saved waypoint and the pole keeps your LiveScope trained on that spot while you fish. SpyScan sweeps the pole back and forth on its own, in whatever direction you set, so you cover water and hunt structure without babysitting the sonar. And SpyLink ties the pole to your Force or Force Pro. When you're in anchor lock, the pole syncs to the motor's speed and direction, and you can drive it right from the Force foot pedal. It's the kind of hands-free scanning that used to take a second person on the boat.

Mounting is flexible. It clamps to a Force or Force Pro trolling motor out of the box, and the included mounting plate even brings a kickstand for the motor. Want it off the trolling motor? You can put it on your deck or gunnel instead, though those setups need extra accessories. Either way there's a quick-release system, so pulling the pole for a run across the lake or for winter storage takes seconds. The shaft depth is adjustable, and internal cable routing keeps the wiring tucked away instead of flapping in the wind.

Here's what actually ships in this box. You get the Spy pole with the 49-inch shaft, the mounting plate for a Force Pro motor, a wireless gesture remote with four mounting options and a coin-cell battery, the wireless foot control with its mount, the power cable, a quick-release cable management kit, a wireless heading sensor, the adjustable perspective bottom mount for LiveScope transducers, hardware, and the documentation. The gesture remote is the fun part. It clips to your rod, rides on your hat, or floats as a handheld, and you steer the pole with a swing or a twist of the wrist. The foot control keeps your hands free for the rod when you'd rather drive with your feet.

One thing to be clear about on this SKU: the transducer isn't in the box. This is the pole and control kit. It's built to carry a LiveScope transducer, LVS32, LVS34, or LVS62, one at a time with internal cable routing, and it supports the GT360UHD for OneVu scanning sonar. But you bring your own transducer or buy one of the bundle versions that includes the GT360UHD. If you're running two transducers, you'll also want the dogbone stabilizer, which is sold separately.

Plan the install a little. The pole draws about 18 watts in normal use and up to 70 at peak, runs off a wired power cable, and calls for an 8-amp fuse. We'd give it a dedicated circuit rather than piggybacking off a busy accessory bus. And leave yourself a few extra inches of cable slack so the pole has room to travel through its full range without tugging on a connector. Everything above the waterline is rated IPX7, so spray and rain aren't a problem. The shaft carries a limited lifetime warranty, with three years on the rest of the system.
