Camco Eaz-Lift ReCurve R3 Weight Distribution Hitch, 600 lb Kit — Product description

The Camco Eaz-Lift ReCurve R3 is a complete 600 lb weight distribution hitch kit that levels your tow vehicle and trailer and settles highway sway. It ships ready to run with trunnion spring bars, adjustable sway control, a pre-drilled shank, and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

The Camco Eaz-Lift ReCurve R3 is a complete weight distribution hitch kit built to level out your tow vehicle and trailer so the whole rig rides flat and steers straight. If the back of your truck or SUV squats when you hook up, and the headlights start pointing at the treetops, that's exactly the problem this kit solves. It shifts a share of the trailer's tongue weight forward onto the front axle of the tow vehicle and back onto the trailer axles, so the load sits where it belongs.

This is the 600 lb version, which means the trunnion spring bars are rated for a trailer tongue weight in the neighborhood of 300 to 600 pounds. The head and hardware carry an 800 lb maximum tongue weight rating and an 8,000 lb maximum gross trailer weight rating, so it covers a lot of single and tandem-axle travel trailers, toy haulers, and enclosed cargo trailers. Before you order, weigh your loaded tongue. Bars that are too stiff for a light trailer ride rough, and bars maxed out on a heavy one won't level properly. Match the bar rating to your real tongue weight and it does its job quietly for years.

What sets the ReCurve R3 apart in the Eaz-Lift line is the adjustable sway control. Instead of bolting on a separate friction bar, you dial the built-in clamp to decide how much resistance the hitch puts on trailer sway. Crosswinds, passing semis, that shove you feel on the highway, this is what settles it all down. Back the clamp off a bit for tight low-speed maneuvering, snug it back up before you get on the interstate. It's a nice touch you don't get on basic round-bar kits.

The trunnion bars are top-loading, meaning they seat into the sides of the head and load from above rather than hanging underneath. That buys you extra ground clearance, which matters on steep driveway aprons, gas station entrances, and boat ramps where an under-slung bar would drag. The head, bars, and shank are forged from high-carbon steel, so they hold up to the repeated hook-and-unhook cycles that wear out lighter gear.

The kit is genuinely complete. You get the head assembly, two 600 lb trunnion spring bars, the sway control hardware, a pre-drilled shank, and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball rated to 15,000 pounds. That last part matters. A lot of hitches make you source a ball separately and guess at the rating. Here it's in the box and ready for a 2-5/16 inch coupler. The shank bolts to the head and slides into a standard trailer receiver, and it's reversible so you can flip it for more rise or drop depending on your coupler height.

Who's this for? Anybody towing a trailer heavy enough that the tow vehicle sags at the hitch or wanders in the wind. First-time trailer owners get a real safety upgrade, and folks who've been towing for years get a hitch that's easier to tune than the old friction-bar rigs. Install runs about an hour the first time with basic hand tools and a torque wrench. Once the shank height and bar tension are dialed in, hooking up is a two-minute job every trip after that.

A few honest notes. This is a 2-5/16 inch ball kit, so confirm your trailer coupler matches before you buy. It's built for conventional bumper-pull towing, not fifth-wheel or gooseneck setups. And weight distribution only works when it's set up right, so take the time to measure your fender heights loaded and unloaded and adjust the bar tension until the tow vehicle sits level. Do that once and you'll feel the difference the first mile down the road. Better steering, better braking, and a lot less of that white-knuckle sway.

Frequently asked questions

Does this weight distribution hitch include a hitch ball?

Yes. The kit comes with a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball rated to 15,000 pounds, so you don't have to buy one separately. Just make sure your trailer coupler is sized for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

What size trailer can I tow with the 600 lb version?

The 600 lb ReCurve R3 is built for trailers with roughly 300 to 600 pounds of tongue weight, up to an 800 lb maximum tongue weight and an 8,000 lb maximum gross trailer weight. Weigh your loaded tongue and match it to the bar rating.

Is sway control included, or do I buy it separately?

It's built in. The ReCurve R3 uses an adjustable sway control clamp on the hitch head. You turn the clamp to set how much sway resistance you want, so there's no separate friction bar to add.

What's the difference between trunnion bars and round bars?

Trunnion bars seat into the sides of the head and load from the top, which gives more ground clearance than round bars that hang underneath. The R3 uses top-loading trunnion bars for that reason.

Does it come with the shank?

Yes. A pre-drilled shank is included and bolts to the head, then slides into a standard trailer receiver. It's reversible, so you can flip it for more rise or drop to match your coupler height.

Will this work for a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer?

No. This is a conventional bumper-pull weight distribution hitch. Fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers use in-bed hitches and don't use spring-bar weight distribution.

How much tongue weight should an 8,000 lb trailer have?

A good rule of thumb is 10 to 15 percent of the loaded trailer weight, so an 8,000 lb trailer would run roughly 800 to 1,200 pounds on the tongue. If your loaded tongue weight is above 800 pounds, step up to a higher-rated bar set instead of this 600 lb kit.

What is the hitch made of?

The head, spring bars, and shank are forged from high-carbon steel to hold up to repeated hookups and highway loads.

How hard is it to install?

Plan on about an hour the first time with basic hand tools and a torque wrench. Once you've set the shank height and bar tension for your trailer, hooking up on each trip takes a couple of minutes.
