Dometic Deluxe SlideTopper 156-Inch Slide-Out Awning, Polar White — Product description

The Dometic Deluxe SlideTopper is a spring-loaded slide-out awning that covers your RV's slide roof whenever the room is out. This 156-inch polar white version blocks leaves, acorns, pooling water, and UV, and it rolls itself back up as you pull the slide in. Genuine Dometic fabric, rail, and tall end caps are all included.

If you've ever pulled your slide in after a week parked under oak trees and found a pile of acorns, leaves, and black streaks riding on the roof, you already know why a slide topper earns its keep. The Dometic Deluxe SlideTopper is a spring-loaded awning that mounts on your RV sidewall right above the slide-out room and covers the top of the slide whenever the room is extended. It keeps debris, standing water, and sun off the slide roof so the wiper seals last longer and you're not up on a ladder sweeping the top every time you break camp.

Here's how it works. The fabric rolls onto a spring-tensioned roller bolted to the coach wall. The leading edge attaches to the outer edge of the slide roof. When the room glides out, the topper unrolls right along with it and pulls taut across the gap. Pull the slide back in and the spring winds the fabric up out of the way. There's no separate motor to wire and no switch to babysit. It simply follows the slide, in and out, every single time.

This is the 156-inch length, which works out to a full 13 feet of fabric width. That's sized for the big living-room and bedroom slides you find on Class A coaches and large fifth wheels. Before you order, measure the width of your slide-out opening. You want the fabric width to match the room so the topper covers the whole roof without leaving a gap at either end. Measure twice, order once. It saves a return and a lot of head-scratching on the ladder.

The weathershield is polar white vinyl, and that material choice matters out in the weather. Vinyl sheds rain and sends it off to the side instead of letting it pool on the slide top, which is where slow leaks and ugly roof stains start. It also shrugs off tree sap, pine needles, and pollen far better than a bare fiberglass slide roof does, and the light polar white color reflects sun to help the fabric and your slide seals go easy in the heat. This version ships with the tall end caps, which give the roller a little extra clearance so it sits proud of the sidewall and clears your trim and moldings.

Because this is the Deluxe grade, you get Dometic's heavier fabric and hardware, built for full-timers and weekend crews alike. It's a complete kit too, not just a bare roll of fabric. You get the vinyl weathershield, the mounting rail, and the polar white tall end-cap hardware in the box, so you're not chasing down parts mid-install. It's genuine Dometic, so it drops onto the coach the way the factory intended and matches the look most modern RVs already wear.

Think about the math for a minute too. A set of slide seals and the labor to swap them runs real money, and water that sits on an unprotected slide roof is the fastest way to chew through those seals and stain the fiberglass. A topper is the cheap insurance that keeps that from happening. It's also the difference between arriving at a shady site and relaxing versus climbing up top with a broom before you can even bring the room in. For anyone who camps under trees, stores the rig outside, or spends real time on the road, that's an easy call.

A word on install and upkeep. Mounting a 13-foot topper is a two-person job at height. You're drilling the rail dead level along the sidewall, setting the roller tension, and clipping the leading edge to the slide roof, so plenty of owners hand this one to a shop and that's a fair call. Once it's up, care is easy. Rinse it clean a couple times a season, re-tension the roller each spring so the fabric doesn't sag in a downpour, and try not to roll it up soaking wet for long-term storage. Do that and this topper will quietly protect your slide for years.

Frequently asked questions

What does a slide topper actually do?

It covers the roof of your slide-out room whenever the room is extended. That keeps leaves, acorns, twigs, pollen, and standing water off the slide top, which protects the wiper seals and stops debris from riding in when you retract the room.

Does it extend and retract on its own?

Yes. The fabric rides on a spring-tensioned roller and the leading edge clips to your slide roof, so it unrolls as the room slides out and winds back up as the room comes in. There's no separate motor or switch to operate.

What size slide does the 156-inch length fit?

156 inches is a full 13 feet of fabric width, sized for large living-room and bedroom slides. Measure the width of your slide-out opening first and match the fabric width to the room so the topper covers the whole roof without a gap at either end.

Is this the complete kit or just the fabric?

This is the complete Deluxe kit. You get the polar white vinyl weathershield, the mounting rail, and the tall end-cap hardware in the box. It's genuine Dometic, not a bare replacement fabric roll.

Why does it come with tall end caps?

The tall end caps give the roller extra clearance so it sits proud of the sidewall and clears your trim and moldings. It's the right choice when the flush caps would crowd nearby fixtures.

Will it stop water pooling on my slide?

The angled vinyl sheds most rain off to the side instead of letting it collect on the slide top, which is where slow leaks and stains start. For long-term storage, still retract it dry so the fabric doesn't sit wet.

Can one person install it?

Plan on two people. It's a 13-foot roller mounted at height, so you're drilling the rail level, setting the spring tension, and clipping the leading edge to the slide roof. Many owners have an RV shop handle it, and that's a reasonable call.

How do I maintain it?

Rinse it clean a couple of times a season, re-tension the roller each spring so it doesn't sag in heavy rain, and avoid rolling it up soaking wet for long storage. Basic care keeps it protecting the slide for years.

What color is it and will it match my RV?

It's Polar White, the light shade that matches most modern coaches and fifth wheels. The light color also reflects sun to help the fabric and your slide seals last in the heat.
