Dometic Climate Control Gateway for iN-Command RV Air Conditioners — Product description

The Dometic Climate Control Gateway is the RV-C board that lets your iN-Command system run your Dometic rooftop air conditioner. It bridges the AC to the panel so you can set temperature, switch modes, and monitor the unit from the same screen you use for the rest of the coach. Part 3316945.010, now also sold as 3316945.021. Gateway only, thermostat sold separately.

The Dometic Climate Control Gateway is the little board that lets your iN-Command control system actually talk to your Dometic rooftop air conditioner. It's the translator in the middle. Your iN-Command panel speaks one language, the AC unit speaks RV-C, and this gateway sits between them so the two can trade commands and status back and forth. Without it, the AC and the panel just don't see each other.

If you've got a coach wired for iN-Command and you want to run the air conditioning from the touchscreen or the phone app, this is the part that makes that happen. You set the temperature, switch modes, and check what the unit is doing from the same screen you use for your lights, slides, and tanks. Real-time climate control, right where you expect it.

This is Dometic part 3316945.010. Dometic has since rolled the design forward, so you'll also see it sold under the newer number 3316945.021. If a shop hands you the .021, that's the current replacement for the same job. Either way you're getting the RV-C gateway that bridges the Dometic AC to iN-Command.

A few things to know before you order. This is the gateway only. It ships with no sensor and no thermostat, so if your install calls for a wall thermostat or a temperature sensor, you'll source that separately. The gateway handles the communication side. The thermostat handles the temperature reading and the wall control. Two different parts, two different jobs.

Wiring is straightforward if you've done any RV-C work. The gateway wants a constant 12-volt supply plus the CAN-H and CAN-L data lines. Get those right and the unit enumerates on the network and shows up for the iN-Command panel. Get the power or the data pair crossed and it won't come online, so double-check the harness before you button up the ceiling. The cable on the gateway runs about 20 inches, which is usually plenty to reach from the AC control area to a tidy mounting spot in the same chase.

Who needs one? Two kinds of owners, mostly. First, the folks whose original gateway has failed. It happens. A common symptom is the app or panel losing its link to the AC, and sometimes a power cycle of the main panel or a reseat of the module brings it back, but when the board is truly done, this is the replacement. Second, anyone retrofitting or repairing an iN-Command coach who wants the rooftop AC folded into the same control system as everything else.

What it's not: it's not a thermostat, it's not a control kit with a display, and it's not going to add app control to an AC that isn't already part of an iN-Command setup. You need the iN-Command system in the coach for this gateway to do anything. It's the bridge, not the whole bridge-and-controls package.

Fitment is Dometic rooftop and ducted air conditioners running on the iN-Command control system. If your rig already shows AC controls on the iN-Command menu and they've stopped responding, the gateway is almost always the part to look at first. And because it speaks native RV-C, it drops into the existing network without adding a separate control head or a second screen. The panel you already have stays the command center.

One more note on firmware. Older Dometic AC controls sometimes need to be on current firmware before a newer gateway will talk to them cleanly. If you're mixing a fresh gateway with an older rooftop unit and it throws a no-device fault, that's the first thing to check. Most installs won't run into it, but it's worth knowing.

It's a small part that does one important job well. If your iN-Command screen went dark on the AC controls, or you're building the system out for the first time, the Climate Control Gateway is the piece that ties it together.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Dometic Climate Control Gateway do?

It's the RV-C bridge between your Dometic rooftop air conditioner and the iN-Command control system. The gateway lets the two talk, so you can set temperature, change modes, and monitor the AC right from your iN-Command touchscreen or app.

Does this gateway include a thermostat or sensor?

No. It ships as the gateway only, with no sensor and no thermostat. If your install needs a wall thermostat or a temperature sensor, you'll order that separately. The gateway handles the communication side.

What's the difference between part 3316945.010 and 3316945.021?

They're the same gateway. Dometic rolled the design forward to the newer 3316945.021 number, so if a shop supplies the .021, that's the current replacement for the .010. Either one does the same job.

Which air conditioners does it work with?

Dometic rooftop air conditioners running on the iN-Command control system. If your rig already shows AC controls on the iN-Command menu, this is the gateway that ties the unit into that system.

How does the gateway connect?

It runs on RV-C. The gateway needs a constant 12-volt supply plus the CAN-H and CAN-L data lines. Wire those correctly and the unit comes online and shows up for the iN-Command panel.

Do I need iN-Command for this to work?

Yes. The gateway only does something when the coach has the iN-Command control system. It's the bridge that folds the AC into that system, not a standalone controller.

How long is the cable?

About 20 inches, which is usually enough to reach from the AC control area to a clean mounting spot in the same chase.

My iN-Command app lost its connection to the AC. Is the gateway the problem?

It can be. A lost link between the panel or app and the air conditioner is a common symptom. Sometimes a power cycle of the main panel or reseating the module restores it, but when the board has truly failed, this gateway is the replacement.

Is this a thermostat or a control kit with a display?

No. It's the communication gateway only. It doesn't include a display or wall control. It bridges the AC to your existing iN-Command screen, which stays the command center.
