Dometic 20 ft x 8 ft Universal RV Patio Awning Fabric, Black Vinyl — Product description

Faded or torn patio awning? This is Dometic's universal replacement fabric for a 20 foot awning with an 8 foot extension, cut in black one-piece vinyl with a matching black vinyl weathershield. It drops into the roller tube and rail you already have, so you keep the hardware and just refresh the shade.

When your patio awning fabric starts to fade, crack, or leak at the seams, you don't have to replace the whole awning. This is the Dometic universal replacement fabric for a 20 foot patio awning with an 8 foot extension, and it drops right into the roller tube and rail you already have. Fresh fabric, same hardware, and your patio is back in the shade.

The fabric is a single one-piece vinyl panel in black, so there are no stitched center seams to work loose or wick water after a few seasons in the sun. Vinyl handles rain, road grime, and UV better than a lot of lighter materials, and it wipes clean with mild soap and water when the pollen and tree sap build up. Black hides dirt well and gives you a clean, low-key look against just about any coach color.

Dometic has been building RV awnings and awning components for decades, and this replacement fabric is cut to the same size and mounting standard as the original equipment on a lot of coaches. So you're not guessing at a cut that almost fits. You get a panel sized for standard 20 foot hardware.

Up top you get a black vinyl weathershield built into the fabric. That's the wrap that covers the rolled-up awning when it's stowed, and it's the part that takes the worst of the weather while you're driving down the highway or parked for the winter. A good weathershield is what keeps the main fabric from baking and fraying at the leading edge, so it's worth having it match and worth having it in tough vinyl.

Sizing on RV awnings trips people up, so here's the short version. The 20 foot measurement is the awning size, which is the length of the roller tube and rail on your rig, not the exact width of the cut fabric. Replacement fabric always runs a couple inches shorter than the stated size so it can roll and tension correctly. The 8 foot number is the extension, which is how far the awning reaches out from the side of the coach when it's fully open. Match both numbers to what you have now and you're set.

This one is the universal style, which means it's cut to fit standard patio awning roller assemblies in the 20 foot size rather than one proprietary rail. If your current fabric slides into a poly cord track on the roller tube and a poly cord or rail on the coach, this fabric uses the same setup. It's the most common patio awning arrangement out there, so most folks find it's a straight swap.

Replacing awning fabric is a doable weekend job, but it's a two-person one. You'll be de-tensioning the spring-loaded roller, sliding the old fabric out of both tracks, and feeding the new panel in the same way. Take your time with the spring tube, keep the roller under control, and have a helper on the far end. There are plenty of good walkthrough videos for this exact task if it's your first time.

Who's this for? Any RV, travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome owner running a 20 foot by 8 foot patio awning that's seen better days. If your fabric is sun-rotted, torn from a gust, or just stained past the point of cleaning, new fabric brings the whole setup back to life for a fraction of a full awning replacement. What it's not is a boat cover or a bimini top. This is a land-side RV patio awning fabric, plain and simple.

Not sure the 20 by 8 size is right for your coach, or whether your rail matches the universal cut? Give us a shout before you order. We'd rather spend two minutes confirming the fit than have you wrestle a spring tube twice.

Frequently asked questions

What size awning does this fabric fit?

It's cut for a 20 foot awning size, which is the length of your roller tube and rail, with an 8 foot extension out from the coach. Match both numbers to your current awning and it's a straight fit.

Is the fabric one piece or does it have a seam?

It's a single one-piece vinyl panel. There's no stitched center seam to work loose or wick water over time.

What is the weathershield?

The weathershield is the black vinyl wrap built into the fabric that covers the rolled-up awning when it's stowed. It shields the main fabric from sun and road weather while you're parked or driving.

Will this fit my awning hardware?

It's the universal style, cut for standard patio awning roller assemblies in the 20 foot size that use poly cord tracks. If your current fabric slides into a poly cord track on the roller tube, this fabric uses the same setup.

Why is replacement fabric shorter than the stated size?

It has to be. The fabric mounts inside the roller tube and rail and needs a little room to roll and tension correctly, so replacement panels always run a couple inches shorter than the stated awning size. That's standard for every RV awning fabric.

What color is it?

Black fabric with a matching black vinyl weathershield.

Can I replace the fabric myself?

Yes, it's a doable weekend job, but plan on a helper. You'll be de-tensioning a spring-loaded roller, so it really is a two-person task for safety and control.

Is this a boat cover or bimini top?

No. This is a land-side RV, trailer, and motorhome patio awning fabric, not a marine cover.

What is the fabric made of?

Vinyl, chosen for its UV and weather resistance. It sheds rain, stands up to sun, and wipes clean with mild soap and water.
