Coleman Mach 9430A717 Non-Ducted Ceiling Assembly, Black

If you've got a non-ducted Coleman-Mach rooftop air conditioner on your RV, the 9430A717 is the piece that lives on the inside of your ceiling. The rooftop unit does the cooling. This ceiling assembly is how that cold air actually gets into the coach. It carries the return-air grille, the washable filter, the adjustable discharge louvers, and on this version, the manual control knobs you use to set the fan and the temperature. Black finish, so it blends into most modern RV interiors.

Non-ducted is the key word here. On a non-ducted system, the air dumps straight down through the ceiling assembly into the living space instead of running through ductwork to registers around the coach. That makes this a single-zone setup, simple and effective for smaller trailers, vans, and campers where one central drop of cold air does the job. If your rig runs ducts to multiple vents, this isn't the assembly you want. You'd need a ducted plenum instead.

This particular assembly has manual controls built right in. No wall thermostat required. You reach up, turn the knobs, and set your fan speed and cooling level right at the unit. A lot of owners actually prefer this. It's one less thing to wire, one less thing to fail, and it keeps the controls where you're standing when you walk in and want cold air now. If your old ceiling assembly ran off a wall thermostat, know that this is the manual-control version, and swapping control styles changes how the low-voltage wiring lands.

It's also cool/heat ready. That means the assembly is set up to accept an optional Coleman-Mach heat strip. Out of the box you're getting cooling control. The heat side is there when you want to grow into it, so if you add a heater assembly later, the ceiling assembly is already prepped for it.

Compatibility is broad across the Coleman-Mach lineup. It's built for the 48203C9665 Series Roughneck, the 48204 Series Mach 15, the 48203 Series Mach 3 Plus, the 48207 Series Mach I, the 48208 Series Mach III Power Saver, plus the Mach 8 Rooftop and Mach 8 CUB Rooftop air conditioners. If you're running one of those rooftop units in a non-ducted configuration, this is the matching interior assembly. Check your rooftop unit's model number before you order. Coleman-Mach uses the same rooftop shells across a lot of coaches, but the ceiling assembly has to match ducted versus non-ducted and manual versus thermostat.

Why do people buy this? Usually one of two reasons. Either the original ceiling assembly got cracked, discolored, or the control knobs wore out and quit holding a setting, or somebody's doing a fresh install and needs the interior half to finish the job. The rooftop unit and the ceiling assembly are sold as separate pieces on these systems, so it's normal to replace just the inside part when that's what failed. New filter, new louvers, fresh controls, and the coach feels a lot newer for not much money.

Install is straightforward if you've been under an RV roof before. The assembly mounts to the underside of the roof opening and clamps up to the rooftop unit through the standard roof opening these systems use. You'll land the low-voltage control wiring, seat the gasket so you get a good seal against the rooftop unit, and snug it up evenly so nothing rattles down the road. If you're not comfortable working around 120-volt AC wiring, have a tech finish the connections. It's not a hard job, but it is line voltage on the power side.

One honest note. This is the ceiling assembly only. It's not the rooftop air conditioner, and it's not a heat strip. If you need the whole system you'll be ordering the rooftop unit separately, and if you want heat you'll add the heater assembly. Match the part to what actually failed and you'll spend a lot less than replacing the entire unit.
