Camco EAZ-LIFT 48290 Utility Ball Mount, 2-Inch Drop

Every trailer setup comes down to one thing: getting the coupler to sit at the right height so the load tows level. That's the whole job of the Camco EAZ-LIFT utility ball mount. It's a straight piece of steel with a 13-inch shank that slides into any standard 2-inch by 2-inch receiver, and it gives you two working positions depending on how you install it. Ball hole down and you've got a 2-inch drop. Flip it over and you've got a 3/4-inch rise. That covers a lot of the small height differences between a truck's receiver and a trailer's coupler.

We like this one for its simplicity. There's nothing to adjust, nothing to loosen, no moving parts to rattle or wear out. It's a fixed, non-swivel bar. You bolt on your ball, drop it in the receiver, pin it, and go. For folks who tow the same boat trailer or utility trailer week after week and just need the geometry to come out right, a fixed drop bar like this is honestly all you need. No sense paying for an adjustable channel mount when one setting does the job every time.

A couple of things to know before you order. First, there's no hitch ball included. That's on purpose. Couplers come in 1-7/8 inch, 2 inch, and 2-5/16 inch, and the right ball depends on your trailer, not on us. So check the stamp on your coupler and match the ball to it. The ball hole on this mount takes a standard threaded ball shank, so most 3/4-inch and 1-inch shank balls will thread right in. Second, this is a steel bar. Steel is strong and takes a beating, but it will surface-rust over time, especially if you launch in salt or brackish water.

That saltwater point is worth a minute. If you're backing a boat trailer down a ramp and dunking the hitch, rinse the whole mount with fresh water when you get home and hit the shank and the ball threads with a light coat of anti-seize or grease. Do that and the bar will outlast the truck. Skip it and you'll be fighting a rusty ball nut in a couple of seasons. It's a small habit that pays off.

Fitment-wise, the 13-inch length gives you enough reach to clear most bumpers and spare-tire carriers, and it works on single-axle and most tandem-axle trailers. The 2-inch drop is the one most people reach for, since pickup receivers usually sit higher than the trailer coupler. If your truck is lifted or you're running a taller setup, measure first. You want the trailer riding level, or just slightly nose-down, when it's hitched. A trailer that noses up rides rough and can push the tongue weight around on you.

Because it's a non-swivel, non-extendable bar, there's no side-to-side pivot. On a flat ramp or a normal driveway that's a non-issue. On a really steep or off-camber launch ramp you may feel the fixed geometry bind a little as the trailer articulates, which is just the nature of a solid drop bar. If most of your launching is at steep, uneven ramps, that's worth knowing going in. For the vast majority of towing, on the road and on typical ramps, it tows clean and quiet.

Install is about as easy as it gets. Slide the shank into the receiver, line up the pin holes, and drop in your hitch pin and clip (sold separately if you don't already have one). Snug things up and you'll want to torque your ball nut down properly, generally around 75 ft-lbs for a 3/4-inch shank ball, though you should always follow the torque spec that comes with the ball you buy. If you get any wobble in the receiver, that's the receiver-to-shank fit, not the bar itself, and a simple hitch tightener or anti-rattle bolt cleans it right up.
