Raymarine Axiom+ 7 RV 7" Chartplotter/Fishfinder Navionics+

The Raymarine Axiom+ 7 RV is a 7-inch IPS-display marine multifunction chartplotter / fishfinder with built-in RealVision 3D sonar - the workhorse size in Raymarine's performance-tuned Axiom+ line. It's sized for typical center console, bay boat, and bass boat helm installations where a 7-inch display fits the available dashboard real estate without overwhelming smaller helms.

What an MFD actually does. A modern marine MFD (multifunction display) is the central electronics hub for the boat - one display that handles chartplotting / GPS navigation, fish finder sonar, optional radar overlay, NMEA 2000 instrument data (engine RPM, fuel level, water temperature, speed, etc.), and increasingly augmented-reality video overlay from a forward-facing camera. The Axiom+ 7 RV does all of these from a single 7-inch touchscreen - you tap to switch between modes or split-screen multiple views simultaneously.

Axiom+ vs original Axiom - what changed. The Axiom+ line is the performance-tuned upgrade to the original Axiom platform. Key improvements: (1) Quad-core processor - dramatically faster chart redraw, faster menu response, smoother sonar updates. The original Axiom's processor was already fast. The Plus is noticeably faster across all operations. (2) Brighter IPS display - 1,500 nits on the 7-inch model (25 percent brighter than the original Axiom), readable in direct sunlight without squinting. (3) More onboard storage - room for more chart regions, more saved waypoints and tracks, more user apps and personal data. (4) Latest LightHouse 3 OS - Raymarine's most refined MFD operating system, with the cleanest interface and the best touch responsiveness in the line's history.

RealVision 3D sonar - the headline feature. The 'RV' suffix in the model name means RealVision 3D sonar capability. RealVision renders live underwater imagery in true 3D space - structure (rocks, sunken logs, brush piles), fish, and bottom contours appear as actual 3D objects in a 3D space you can rotate, pan, and view from different angles using touchscreen gestures. Dramatically more intuitive than traditional 2D sonar views where you have to mentally reconstruct the 3D underwater world from a 2D scrolling history strip. For anglers working specific structure (bass anglers on brush piles, crappie anglers on standing timber, walleye anglers on rock points), RealVision shows the structure plus the fish positioned on the structure, plus your boat position in real-time as you maneuver. The first generation of true 3D sonar in this size class was groundbreaking. the current generation in the Axiom+ 7 RV is fully refined.

4-channel sonar - five modes from one MFD. The internal sonar engine supports five distinct sonar modes simultaneously available: (1) RealVision 3D - the headline 3D imagery. (2) CHIRP DownVision - high-resolution down-looking imagery showing detailed bottom structure and fish targets directly below the boat. (3) SideVision - side-scanning imagery showing a wide swath of bottom to port and starboard of the boat's track. (4) High Frequency CHIRP - the traditional fish finder mode optimized for fish target identification. (5) 600W 50/200 kHz traditional sonar - the legacy mode that still works best in very deep water (200+ ft) where the higher-frequency CHIRP modes start to lose effectiveness. All five modes available on the single Axiom+ 7 RV - no separate sonar module needed. The wide spectrum CHIRP sonar transmits on 60 different frequencies for the most life-like sonar imagery and the best fish target discrimination available.

IPS display technology. The 7-inch IPS display delivers wider viewing angles and roughly twice the resolution of traditional marine LCDs (the legacy TN panel technology in older units). Practical impact: charts, sonar, and radar overlays look sharper and stay readable from off-axis viewing positions - passengers behind the helm, anglers working from the bow, fishing buddies looking over your shoulder. Traditional TN displays go dark / washed out at viewing angles more than 45 degrees off-axis. IPS stays fully readable at 70+ degree off-axis angles. 1,500 nits brightness is direct-sunlight readable. HydroTough Nano-coated impact-resistant glass screen repels water, oil, and smudges - water beads off instead of smearing, oily fingerprints don't leave permanent marks, and the touch response stays accurate even when the screen is wet from spray. Three color themes (light, dark, night mode) - bright day mode for full sun, dark for dawn / dusk, night for full darkness with preserved night vision.

Navionics+ chart preloaded. The Axiom+ 7 RV ships with the Navionics+ chart pack preloaded - covering US coastal waters and major US inland lakes / rivers. Navionics is the most comprehensive marine chart database in the US market, with detailed depth contours, structure data, navigation markers, and dock-level chart resolution. The chart pack includes a year of free updates from the date of activation - download chart updates via the boat's WiFi to keep charts current. After the first year, chart updates require an annual Navionics subscription (currently around $35 / year). The Axiom+ also supports LightHouse Raster and Vector Charts from Raymarine plus C-MAP charts as alternatives.

LightHouse 3 operating system. LightHouse 3 is Raymarine's MFD operating system - the user interface that you actually interact with. LH3 is fast, fluid, and easy to learn. The home screen is fully customizable - drag tile widgets around to your preferred layout. Common operations (set waypoint, switch sonar mode, adjust chart zoom) are 1-2 taps. The MOB (man overboard) function is a single hardware button press for emergency response. The OS has matured through several generations and is the standard reference for marine MFD usability in the current market.

Networking - expand the system. The Axiom+ 7 RV networks with other Raymarine devices via RayNet Ethernet and NMEA 2000: (1) Multiple Axiom displays - run displays at multiple helm positions (main helm + secondary helm + cockpit + bridge) that all share the same data and chart database. (2) Quantum CHIRP radar - add Raymarine's solid-state CHIRP radar for collision avoidance and weather tracking. The Axiom+ handles radar overlay on the chart display. (3) FLIR thermal cameras - add a forward-facing FLIR thermal camera for night navigation visibility. (4) NMEA 2000 instruments - integrate engine data, fuel sensors, weather instruments, autopilot. (5) Marine audio control - turn the volume up and down on NMEA 2000-compatible marine stereos directly from the Axiom touchscreen. (6) Wi-Fi for chart updates and Raymarine app integration.

What's in the box. The Axiom+ 7 RV ships with the surface mounting kit (the standard install configuration where the unit recesses into the dash), the trunnion mounting kit (the alternative install configuration where the unit gimbal-mounts on a yoke bracket), all mounting hardware, the power / data cable (NMEA 2000 cable for unit power and data network connection), and full installation instructions. NOT included: the RealVision 3D transducer (sold separately - typical pairing is the RV-100 or RV-200 transom-mount transducer, or the RV-300/400 thru-hull). The chartplotter / fishfinder MFD works without the transducer (charts and waypoint nav still function), but you need the transducer to use the sonar modes.

Install. Plan for 3-5 hours for an experienced installer. Tasks: cut the dash opening for the surface-mount install (template included in the box), seal the dash opening with marine sealant, mount the Axiom+ in the dash, connect 12V power and ground from the boat's electrical system through a 5A fuse, connect the NMEA 2000 backbone if present, route the transducer cable from the transom or hull mount up to the MFD, connect the transducer plug, power on and run through initial setup (set boat type, GPS calibration, depth offset, transducer model selection). Activation: the Navionics+ chart pack requires online activation via Wi-Fi and a Navionics account during initial setup.

Warranty. Standard Raymarine 2-year limited warranty applies (with extended warranty available as a Raymarine purchase option). Save the receipt and the original packaging. Warranty service runs through Raymarine's authorized service network worldwide. Most field failures Raymarine sees are install-related (improper sealing of the dash mount allowing water intrusion, undersized power wiring causing brown-out shutdowns, wrong transducer selection causing sonar problems) rather than MFD defects - careful install delivers many years of reliable service.
