Humminbird XTM 9 20 T Dual Beam Trolling Transducer

The Humminbird XTM-9-20-T transducer (MPN 710283-1) is the trolling motor mount version of Humminbird's HD Imaging Plus transducer. It gives you Dual Beam Plus, Dual Beam Plus, and Dual Spectrum CHIRP traditional 2D sonar from a single puck mounted on the lower unit of your trolling motor. A temperature probe is built into the housing so you get water temp on your fish finder display without running a separate sensor.

The HD Imaging Plus capability is the same image clarity that you'd get from a Humminbird through-hull HD transducer, but mounted on the trolling motor lets you scan precisely under and around your fishing position. Dual Beam sonar Plus reaches out to about 125 feet on each side at HD frequency, and Dual Beam sonar Plus shows photo-quality structure below the boat. The Dual Spectrum CHIRP traditional 2D sonar reads through the water column to show fish marks and bait balls.

What it fits. The transducer is compatible with Humminbird HELIX Dual Beam 8, 9, 10, 12, 15 G3 and G4 series fish finders, all Solix series units, and Apex series units. It connects via a 9-pin cable that runs from the transducer up the trolling motor shaft to the fish finder. Cable length is sized for a trolling motor mount install (roughly 20 feet of cable, which gives slack for routing).

The XTM-9 mounting hardware is designed to clamp around the lower unit of compatible trolling motors. Common trolling motor models it fits include major trolling motor manufacturer Ulterra QUEST, Terrova QUEST, Ulterra (current and recent models), Terrova (current and recent models), and Riptide series. For other trolling motor brands or older major trolling motor manufacturer models, check fitment carefully. The hardware kit may not align with all motor housings out of the box.

Image quality is excellent. HD Imaging Plus runs at higher frequency than standard HD Imaging, which gives you more pixel density in the side and down imaging views. For fishing structure (brush piles, rock piles, weed lines, dock pilings), the higher resolution shows individual fish suspended in the structure rather than just blobs. You can identify species sometimes by the swim pattern and silhouette. For fish finders that support Mega Live (the active sonar feature on Solix and Apex), the HD Imaging Plus transducer pairs well as the persistent down/dual beam sonar companion.

Installation. The transducer clamps to the lower unit of the trolling motor with the included hardware. The cable runs up the trolling motor shaft, secured with cable clips, and into the boat through the trolling motor cable port (or through a separately drilled cable port). At the fish finder, the cable plugs into the 9-pin port on the back of the unit. Plan for an hour of bench work mounting the transducer and routing the cable. Add another 30-45 minutes for cable routing into the boat and behind your gauges to the fish finder.

Why this transducer matters. Trolling motor mounted transducers give you the most useful sonar view for fishing because the transducer points where the boat's going. You drift over a brush pile and the dual beam sonar shows you the structure 50 feet to your left, telling you to cast that direction. A through-hull transducer mounted on the boat hull cannot do that because it is fixed pointing down. The XTM-9 makes a Humminbird fish finder system fundamentally more useful for active fishing.

Anglers who run a trolling motor with this transducer wonder how they ever fished without it. You're seeing fish in structure that's invisible to traditional 2D sonar, you don't need to keep guessing where the brush pile starts and ends, and it's easy to track a school of bait while you maintain position with the trolling motor. The combination is what makes modern bass tournament anglers and walleye guides build their boats around. If you're running a Humminbird HELIX Dual Beam or Solix on your boat already and you've been using a hull-mounted transducer, you're missing the most useful angle for fishing structure. That's the gap this transducer fills.

Cable routing tip. Most trolling motor manufacturers include a cable port at the motor mount that handles transducer cables cleanly. Run the cable up the inside of the motor shaft (not zip-tied to the outside, which can chafe), through the mount port, and into the boat via the existing cable raceway. Avoid sharp bends near the transducer connector. Service loops at both ends of the cable give you slack for future motor swaps.
