Lumishore ECLIPSE SMX54 Surface-Mount Underwater Light Blue/White

The Lumishore ECLIPSE SMX54 (Lumishore part 010-04505-00) is the dual-color surface-mount underwater LED light with both white AND blue LEDs in one bronze fixture, both colors running at full output without compromise. The 2-lights-in-1 design means you don't have to choose between white (the practical color for night swimming and visibility) and blue (the showcase color for the dock party and the underwater glow that draws fish to the boat at night). One fixture delivers both at full brightness, switchable on demand from the helm.

What 2-lights-in-1 actually means. Many dual-color underwater lights compromise on output: they either share LEDs between colors (which means each color runs at half power), or they put fewer LEDs of each color in the fixture (which limits both colors' brightness). The SMX54 dedicates 12 white LEDs at 5 watts each PLUS 24 blue LEDs at 3 watts each in the same fixture. White at full power gives you 7,500 verified fixture lumens (60 watts of white LED total). Blue at full power gives you the equivalent dedicated-blue-fixture brightness (72 watts of blue LED total). Run both at the same time for the dramatic blue-and-white blend, or switch between for the use case at hand.

7,500 verified fixture lumens (white). The 7,500-lumen rating is the verified fixture lumens (the actual light output measured at the fixture, after factoring in optical losses through the lens). That's the meaningful number for comparing underwater lights, not the inflated raw LED-die lumens that some manufacturers quote. 7,500 fixture lumens of white at the surface-mount aperture is enough to throw a clearly-visible beam well below the boat in most water clarity, illuminate the swim platform area for night swimming, and serve as a serious work light for thru-hull or running gear inspection in shallow water.

HICOB (High Intensity COB) LED array. Lumishore's HICOB design uses Chip-On-Board LED arrays rather than discrete surface-mount LED packages. The COB approach packs more LED dies into a smaller area, runs cooler at the same output level (better thermal coupling between the LED die and the heat sink), and produces a more uniform light pattern. Higher reliability, longer service life, and brighter output per fixture size than older discrete-LED underwater lights. Typical LED life: 50,000+ hours.

90-degree beam angle. The 90-degree beam angle is the sweet spot for surface-mount underwater lighting on most boats. Wide enough to illuminate a meaningful area below and to the sides of the fixture, narrow enough to actually project the light deep instead of dispersing too wide. Combined with the high lumen output, the 90-degree beam gives you the visible underwater glow that draws fish at night and the practical work-light coverage for swim platform area illumination.

Marine-grade bronze housing with glass lens. The bronze housing is the standard for premium underwater lighting because bronze handles saltwater corrosion better than aluminum or plastic alternatives. The tempered glass lens stays clear under UV exposure (no yellowing over time) and handles the impact loads underwater lights see in routine boat use. Combined, the bronze and glass construction is what makes the SMX54 a many-years service-life light rather than a 2-3-year disposable. The housing finish is the tarnish-tolerant marine bronze that develops the characteristic patina over time without losing structural integrity.

Multi-channel internal driver, 12 or 24 volts DC. The internal LED driver accepts either 12V or 24V DC supply automatically (no jumper to set, no field configuration needed - the driver senses the supply voltage). Max current draw: 5.9 amps at 12V or 2.8 amps at 24V (both colors at full output). Plumbing the SMX54 into a 12V boat is plug-and-play. Plumbing into a 24V or split-voltage boat works the same way. Lower-voltage operation (24V) is preferred where available because the lower current means smaller-gauge wire runs from the breaker panel to the light.

Three control options. Run the SMX54 on a standard on/off marine wall switch (the simplest install: 12V power, 12V ground, switch in line, light on or off, both colors at full when on). Run it on the Lumishore SUPRA i-Connect Hub and Switch (adds dimming, color fade cycles, strobe, and the ability to control multiple Lumishore lights from one wall switch). Run it on the ECLIPSE Command Center (the top-tier Lumishore controller with the full effect library: synchronized strobe across multiple lights, color fade with brightness adjust, fixed and variable strobes, system memory of preferred settings). Pick the controller that matches your boat's level of light system sophistication.

Effect library (with i-Connect or Command Center). With the i-Connect Hub or the Command Center driving the light, you unlock the SMX54's full effect library: synchronized lights across all SMX54 fixtures on the boat (all lights flash, fade, or strobe at the same time), color fade cycle, fade with brightness adjust, fixed strobes, strobe with speed adjust, and system memory of your preferred settings (turn the lights back on and they come up at the last-used color, brightness, and effect). For dock parties and showcase boating, the effect library is half the reason owners choose the ECLIPSE line.

Surface mount: install on the transom, hull sides, or stepped hull. The surface-mount fixture bolts to the outside of the hull rather than recessing into a thru-hull cutout. Surface mount is faster to install, doesn't require a thru-hull penetration of the boat, and lets you position the light anywhere on the hull without committing to a permanent through-hull location. The bronze fixture is shaped to sit flush against the hull surface with the supplied gasket sealing the mounting bolts. Stepped hulls (where the hull surface has a step transition) accept the SMX54 well because the surface mount adapts to the hull profile without needing a special insert.

What this is not. The SMX54 is the single fixture surface-mount unit. For multiple-fixture systems, buy multiple SMX54s and wire them through one of the i-Connect Hubs for synchronized operation. The SMX54 is also not a thru-hull (recessed) light - if your hull has the cutouts and you want a recessed install, see the Lumishore THX series instead. For boat owners who want the cleanest possible look, thru-hull is preferred. For owners who want maximum flexibility and easiest install, surface mount (the SMX54) is the right choice.

Mounting orientation. The SMX54 is designed to mount with the light beam projected at the typical underwater surface-mount angle (slightly downward and outward from the hull). Mount near the waterline so the fixture is below the water surface at rest. The owner's manual has the recommended mounting heights and angles for typical hull types.
