RAILBLAZA HEXX Live Pole 30 - Live Sonar Transducer Mount — Product description

The RAILBLAZA HEXX Live Pole 30 (MPN 11-4191-11, UPC 814162021960) is RAILBLAZA's purpose-built live sonar transducer mounting pole for kayaks, canoes, dinghies, and other small craft - the right hardware to mount a major-brand live forward-looking sonar transducer to a small fishing platform without the make-do solutions (zip ties, broom handles, milk-crate hacks) that most kayak anglers resort to before discovering this product exists. Live sonar (the real-time forward-looking sonar technology that's transforming kayak and small-boat fishing) requires the transducer to be deployable to a specific depth in the water and pointable in a specific direction, then easily stowable for transit or trailering. The HEXX Live Pole solves all three problems with one purpose-engineered system. 360-degree rotation lets you point the transducer in any direction to scan around the kayak - critical for forward-looking sonar where you want to see what's ahead, then turn to see what's to the side, then turn again to scan a different area. The direction indicator at the top of the pole shows you exactly which way the transducer is pointed below the water - no more guessing at the orientation. The folding design lets the pole fold flat against the deck for transit and stowage, then unfold into deployed position in seconds when you're ready to fish. Track-mount ready - includes the kayak track-mount fasteners for installation on standard Hobie H-track, YakAttack GearTrac, and similar rail systems used on most fishing kayaks. Cable management clips secure the transducer cable along the pole to prevent tangles and chafing. Construction is UV-resistant fiberglass-reinforced nylon body with extruded anodized aluminum pole - corrosion-proof for marine service. Compatible with the major brands of live sonar transducers from the leading fish-finder manufacturers (the HEXX mount fits the standard live sonar transducer form factor). 4.4 lb total weight is light enough to add to even a small kayak without affecting handling. Includes: Live Pole, HEXX Mount, and kayak track mount fasteners.

The RAILBLAZA HEXX Live Pole 30 is a purpose-built mounting pole for live forward-looking sonar transducers on kayaks, canoes, dinghies, and other small fishing craft. If you're a kayak angler running a major-brand live sonar system, you already know the mounting problem: live sonar transducers need to be deployed to a specific depth below the kayak hull and oriented in a specific direction to scan effectively, then stowed cleanly for transit. There's no good factory mounting solution for kayaks - every transducer ships with a mount designed for full-size boats. The HEXX Live Pole 30 is RAILBLAZA's answer: a real mount engineered specifically for the kayak/canoe/small-craft live sonar use case.

What live sonar is and why mounting matters. Live forward-looking sonar (sold as Live Scope, Active Target, Mega Live, and similar names from the major fish-finder brands) is a transformative fishing technology that shows real-time underwater imagery of what's in front of and around the boat - you can literally watch fish swim, watch them respond to your lure, and adjust your retrieve based on their behavior. On a full-size boat, the transducer mounts on the bow trolling motor or on a dedicated transducer pole. On a kayak, there's no trolling motor and no transom-mount location that works - which is why kayak anglers were stuck zip-tying transducers to broom handles or fabricating make-do mounts. The HEXX Live Pole gives you the same kind of pole-mount functionality kayak anglers were jury-rigging, but engineered specifically for the application with all the features that matter.

360-degree rotation - what it does for live sonar. The pole rotates a full 360 degrees, with the transducer pointing wherever you rotate the pole. For traditional 2D sonar, rotation didn't matter much because you were just looking straight down. For live sonar, rotation is everything - you want to scan ahead to see what's coming, turn 45 degrees to scan to the side, turn another 45 degrees to look behind. The 360-degree rotation on the HEXX Live Pole lets you scan in any direction without having to turn the kayak. Combined with the kayak's own maneuverability, you can systematically cover an area or track a moving fish that's swimming around the boat.

The direction indicator - the small detail that matters. At the top of the pole is a physical direction indicator that shows you which way the transducer is pointed below the water. Sounds trivial until you've used a pole without one - it's surprisingly easy to lose track of which way the transducer is pointing during a busy fishing session, especially when you've been making lots of small rotation adjustments. With the direction indicator, you can glance up, see exactly which way you're aimed, and correlate that with what's showing on your fish finder screen. Eliminates a constant source of small frustration in live sonar use.

Folding design for kayak storage. The HEXX Live Pole 30 folds flat against the kayak deck when not in use. Folded position keeps the pole out of the way during paddling, transit, and trailering - critical because a deployed pole sticks up off the deck and would catch on roof racks, garage door frames, low branches, and other obstacles you encounter between the lake and home. When you're ready to fish, the pole unfolds into the deployed position in seconds. The folding mechanism is positive-lock in both the folded and deployed positions - doesn't slop around in either configuration. The pole can also be removed entirely from the mount in seconds for full kayak storage or for transferring the pole between multiple kayaks.

Track mount ready - what kayak rails it fits. The HEXX Live Pole 30 ships with track mount fasteners sized for the standard kayak rail systems used on most fishing kayaks: Hobie H-track, YakAttack GearTrac, and most other 1-inch-wide rail track systems. Install on your kayak's existing track is a 5-minute job with the included fasteners - no drilling, no modification to the kayak. If your kayak doesn't have track installed but has a different mounting system (RAILBLAZA StarPort, Scotty Mount, etc), check the RAILBLAZA accessory adapter range for your specific mounting platform.

Cable management clips. The transducer cable runs from the transducer (at the bottom of the pole, in the water) up the pole and across the deck to the fish finder display unit. Without cable management, the cable drapes loosely and snags on rods, fishing line, paddles, your hands, and everything else on the kayak deck. The HEXX Live Pole includes integrated cable management clips that secure the cable along the pole's length - clean install, no snag points, no cable abrasion against the pole. Critical detail for a kayak where deck space is at a premium.

Compatibility with live sonar transducers. The HEXX mount is sized for the standard live forward-looking sonar transducer form factor used by the major fish-finder brands. The specific live sonar systems on the market that fit this mount include the major-brand forward-looking products from the leading fish-finder manufacturers - check the specific transducer dimensions against the HEXX mount specifications before ordering if you have an unusual or older transducer model. Most current-generation live sonar transducers from the major brands fit without adapters.

Construction materials. The pole body is UV-resistant fiberglass-reinforced nylon - tough plastic that resists impact, UV degradation, and water absorption. The pole shaft is extruded anodized aluminum - lightweight (matters for kayak total weight), corrosion-proof in marine service, and stiff enough to hold the transducer position without flex in current or wave action. The HEXX mount itself uses the same materials with stainless steel hardware at all attachment points.

Weight - 4.4 lb. Total system weight is 4.4 lb, light enough to add to any reasonable fishing kayak without noticeably affecting handling, paddling effort, or transport. For weight-conscious kayak anglers (most are - every pound matters when you're carrying a kayak to the water), the HEXX Live Pole adds less weight than the live sonar transducer itself plus the battery to run it.

Why 30 (the number in the product name). The 30 in HEXX Live Pole 30 refers to the pole length in inches - 30 inches is the standard length that puts the transducer at appropriate depth below the kayak hull for most kayak applications. RAILBLAZA also makes shorter and longer versions for specific use cases (very shallow water or very deep water installations), but the 30-inch version is the default sweet spot that covers most kayak/canoe/dinghy use.

What's in the box. One HEXX Live Pole (the pole assembly with rotation hardware and direction indicator), one HEXX Mount (the kayak-side mounting bracket that the pole attaches to), and kayak track mount fasteners sized for standard kayak rail systems. The live sonar transducer itself is NOT included - you mount your existing transducer to the HEXX Live Pole mount cup at the bottom of the pole.

Install time. Realistic install: 15-30 minutes for a first install if your kayak already has track rails. Mount the HEXX Mount to the kayak track (5 minutes), attach the pole to the HEXX Mount (5 minutes), mount your transducer to the pole cup (10-15 minutes per the transducer's instructions), route and secure the transducer cable to the fish finder (5-10 minutes). After install, deployment and stowage during fishing trips is seconds-fast.

Frequently asked questions

Which live sonar systems does the HEXX Live Pole 30 work with?

The HEXX mount is sized for the standard live forward-looking sonar transducer form factor used by the major fish-finder brands. Most current-generation live forward-looking sonar transducers from the leading manufacturers fit without adapters. If you have an unusual or older transducer model, check the transducer's external dimensions against the HEXX mount cup specifications before ordering. RAILBLAZA publishes the mount cup dimensions in the product spec sheet.

Will it fit my kayak?

If your kayak has the standard 1-inch wide rail track that most modern fishing kayaks use (Hobie H-track, YakAttack GearTrac, and similar), then yes - the included fasteners attach directly to the track. If your kayak uses a different mounting platform (RAILBLAZA StarPort, Scotty Mount, or no factory track), check the RAILBLAZA accessory adapter range - they make adapters for most kayak mounting platforms. If your kayak has no factory mounting points at all (older kayaks, basic recreational kayaks without fishing-specific outfitting), you may need to install a track first before mounting the HEXX Live Pole.

Does it include the live sonar transducer?

No. The HEXX Live Pole is the mounting hardware only - you provide your existing live sonar transducer and mount it to the pole. The transducer itself is a separate purchase from the major fish-finder manufacturer. Budget $1,000-3,000 for the transducer plus the matching live sonar module plus the fish finder display unit, depending on which brand and which performance tier you choose.

How does the 360-degree rotation work?

The pole rotates freely around its vertical axis at the kayak-side mount, with the transducer at the bottom of the pole following the rotation. Reach down and turn the pole to point the transducer in whatever direction you want to scan. The rotation is smooth and continuous (no detent positions) so you can dial in any exact angle. The direction indicator at the top shows which way the transducer is aimed - glance up to verify orientation, glance down at your fish finder screen to see what's showing in that direction.

What's the 30 in the product name?

Pole length in inches. The HEXX Live Pole 30 is 30 inches long, which puts the transducer at the appropriate depth below the kayak hull for most kayak applications. RAILBLAZA makes shorter and longer versions for specific use cases - shorter for very shallow water work where you don't want the transducer touching bottom, longer for deeper-keel kayaks or applications where you want the transducer farther below the hull. 30 inches is the default sweet spot that works for typical kayak fishing.

How does the folding mechanism work?

The pole hinges at the mount, with a positive-lock mechanism that secures it in both the folded-flat (transit/stowage) position and the deployed-vertical (fishing) position. To deploy: release the lock, swing the pole upright, the lock automatically engages. To stow: release the lock, fold the pole flat, the lock engages in the folded position. Deployment and stowage take seconds. The lock holds the pole solidly in either position - doesn't slop around during fishing or transit.

Will the pole flex or vibrate in the water?

Minimal - the extruded anodized aluminum pole shaft is stiff enough to hold the transducer in position without significant flex in normal kayak fishing conditions (no wake, gentle current, moderate paddling speed). In stronger current or while paddling at speed, you may see some pole flex which translates into transducer image instability - typical of any pole-mount transducer system, not specific to this product. For best image stability, scan with the kayak stationary or moving slowly. Most live sonar work happens at rest anyway because you're watching the screen.

Can I leave it deployed during long paddling sessions?

Possible but not ideal. The deployed pole creates drag in the water which slows your paddling speed and adds effort. For long paddles between fishing spots, fold the pole up to reduce drag. For short repositioning between casts, leaving it deployed is fine. The fold/unfold takes about 5 seconds so there's no major hassle in folding for paddling and unfolding to fish.

What about saltwater use?

Designed for both freshwater and saltwater service. The UV-resistant nylon and anodized aluminum construction handles saltwater exposure without corrosion. Standard maintenance: fresh-water rinse after each saltwater trip (most kayak anglers just rinse the whole kayak when they get home). The HEXX Live Pole specifically is designed for marine service - won't rust or chalk like cheaper steel-based mounts would.

Can I transfer the pole between multiple kayaks?

Yes - that's a useful design feature. The pole detaches from the kayak-side HEXX Mount in seconds without tools. If you have multiple fishing kayaks (or share with family/friends), install a HEXX Mount on each kayak's track (RAILBLAZA sells the mount separately) and move the one pole between kayaks as needed. The pole itself with the rotation mechanism and transducer cup is the more expensive component - the kayak-side mounts are cheaper to add multiple times.

Does the cable management really matter?

Yes - more than you'd expect. Without cable management, the live sonar transducer cable drapes loosely from the transducer up the pole and across the kayak deck to the fish finder display. The loose cable snags on rod tips during casting, gets tangled with fishing line during fish fights, abrades against the pole edge over time (eventually wears through the cable jacket), and gets in the way of every paddling stroke. The integrated cable management clips on the HEXX Live Pole secure the cable cleanly against the pole - eliminates all those nuisances.

How long does it take to install?

15-30 minutes for the first install if your kayak already has track rails. Mount the HEXX Mount to the kayak track (5 minutes), attach the pole to the mount (5 minutes), mount your transducer to the pole's transducer cup per the transducer's instructions (10-15 minutes), route and secure the transducer cable to your fish finder location (5-10 minutes). After the initial install, deploy/stow during fishing trips takes 5-10 seconds.
