Many detailers run a big machine for open surfaces and a Nano for the details.
The pad and compound do the cutting. A coarser pad with a cutting compound removes heavy oxidation and scratches while a softer pad with a finishing polish refines the gloss. Work from aggressive to fine and match the backing pad size to your tool and the pad you are using. Using the wrong pad either does not cut or leaves haze.
