Ronstan Shackles, Rings & Pins

Bow D snap or twist

A bow shackle has a rounded body that accepts loads from multiple angles which makes it versatile for attaching blocks and lines. A snap shackle opens fast with a plunger for sheets and halyards you connect and release often. A twist shackle and other specialty shapes solve specific attachment angles. Pick the shape for how the fitting is loaded and how often you operate it.

Size by pin diameter and load

Shackles are sized by pin diameter from small 5/32 inch pins up through 3/8 inch and larger and each has a safe working load. Match the pin size and load rating to the line and the fitting it connects and step up for a high load point. An undersized shackle is a weak link that can fail under load so do not go smaller than the job needs.

Rings and soft attachments

Rings and low friction rings give a smooth bearing surface for a line to turn through without a sheave which racers use to save weight on control lines. Match the ring size to the line and use a ring where you want a simple light turning point rather than a block.

Clevis pins and spares

Clevis pins and rings secure blocks turnbuckles and fittings and they are the small parts that go missing or wear. Match the clevis pin diameter and length to the fitting and keep spare pins and rings aboard since a lost pin can take a fitting out of service at the worst time.

Why stainless matters

Forged and machined stainless resists the corrosion that weakens lesser hardware in salt and it holds its rated strength over years of exposure. For anything that carries load aloft the quality is worth it. Stainless also maintains smooth action on moving parts such as snap shackle plungers after repeated salt water exposure.
