Minn Kota Terrova 80 Trolling Motor 24V 80lb 60-inch — Product description

The Minn Kota Terrova 80 (MPN 1358382, UPC 029402050642) is Minn Kota's flagship bow-mount GPS trolling motor in the 24-volt 80-pound thrust class - the workhorse motor for serious freshwater fishermen on boats from 19 to 22 feet who want spot-locking, heading-holding, app-controllable, sonar-equipped bow-mount capability without stepping all the way up to the auto-stow Ulterra or the new Quest series. Wireless Remote with LCD screen for command from anywhere on the boat. Spot-Lock GPS holds you locked on a fish spot to within feet of accuracy with Jog letting you nudge the lock 5 feet in any direction. AutoPilot holds a heading against wind, waves, and current. Built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar transducer routed through the shaft (no external transducer wire to snag or damage). Heel-toe electric foot pedal with rotary speed dial, AutoPilot toggle, and Spot-Lock button right at your foot. Digital Maximizer variable speed for up to 5x longer battery run time. Indestructible composite shaft with lifetime Minn Kota guarantee. One-Boat Network compatible for integration with compatible fish finders, shallow water anchors, and other Minn Kota / sister-brand accessories. Apple and Android mobile app compatibility for phone-based control and software updates. 60-inch shaft fits boats with up to about 22-inch transom-to-water gunwale height.

The Minn Kota Terrova 80 is the 80-pound thrust, 24-volt, 60-inch shaft member of the Terrova family - Minn Kota's mid-flagship bow-mount GPS trolling motor line that sits between the Powerdrive (entry-level GPS bow-mount) and the Ulterra (auto-stow/deploy bow-mount) in the lineup. The 80lb / 24V combination is the most common spec on serious fishing boats in the 19 to 22-foot range: bass boats, multi-species walleye boats, sportfish bay boats, and big bowfishing skiffs all use this exact motor class because it's the sweet spot for thrust, battery efficiency, and price.

What makes the Terrova family the bestseller it is. Minn Kota's bow-mount trolling motor line splits into clear tiers: Powerdrive (entry-level GPS), Terrova (mid-tier flagship), Ulterra (top-tier auto-stow), and the newer Quest series. The Terrova is the volume seller because it has every feature serious fishermen actually use (Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, wireless remote, foot pedal, mobile app, built-in sonar) without the additional cost of auto-stow/deploy mechanics that some boaters don't need. For 90% of serious bass and walleye anglers, the Terrova is the right call.

The Advanced GPS Trolling System. This is the headline feature - Minn Kota's GPS positioning system that turns the trolling motor into an active boat-control platform. Set Spot-Locks (GPS coordinates that the motor will hold against wind and current). Record trolling paths to retrace exact routes. AutoPilot a heading and the motor maintains that heading regardless of conditions. The wireless remote has an LCD screen showing your current heading, speed, GPS status, and active commands - so you have full situational awareness from anywhere on the boat without walking back to the bow.

Spot-Lock with Jog. Spot-Lock is the killer feature for serious fishermen - GPS-driven position holding that keeps the boat locked over a productive fishing spot to within a few feet of accuracy. Find a brush pile, a structure point, a school of fish on sonar - hit Spot-Lock and the motor holds you there indefinitely without you touching anything. Jog is the refinement: with the included heading sensor, you can nudge the Spot-Lock target 5 feet in any direction (forward, back, left, right) without walking to the bow - useful for fine-tuning your casting angle on a brush pile or repositioning when the wind shifts. Activate Spot-Lock from the wireless remote or from compatible fish finder integration.

AutoPilot heading hold. Different from Spot-Lock (which holds position) - AutoPilot holds a heading. Point the trolling motor in the direction you want to go, hit AutoPilot, and the motor maintains that heading regardless of wind, waves, or current pushing the boat sideways. Combine AutoPilot with Digital Maximizer speed control and you have a hands-free trolling presentation for crank baits, spinnerbaits, or walleye crawler harnesses - the boat tracks straight while you focus on rod work.

Built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar. The Terrova 80 includes a Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar transducer integrated into the trolling motor shaft - no external transducer to mount, no transducer cable to run, no chance of the cable getting cut by a fish or snagged on weeds. The transducer fires straight down through the motor's lower unit and routes the data through the shaft to a connector that plugs into a compatible CHIRP-capable fish finder. CHIRP technology covers a wide range of sonar frequencies simultaneously instead of a single fixed frequency - the result is sharper fish-arch separation, cleaner bottom detail, and better target discrimination than traditional fixed-frequency sonar. This is one of the standout features of the modern Terrova - dedicated transducer integration that competing bow-mount motors don't offer.

The wireless remote with LCD screen. The included wireless remote is full-featured: LCD screen displaying current heading, speed setting, battery voltage, GPS status, and active commands. Spot-Lock activation button. AutoPilot toggle. Speed up/down controls. Steering left/right. Cruise control buttons. The remote operates anywhere on the boat - cast from the back deck and control the bow motor without walking forward. The included lanyard keeps the remote attached to the operator (a critical detail for the inevitable moment when someone drops the remote during a hookset).

Heel-toe electric foot pedal. The included corded foot pedal is the primary control surface for fishermen who want their feet to handle motor commands while their hands handle rod work. Low-profile design (so it doesn't sit up high on the bow deck). Two steering modes: heel/toe pedal (push the toe to turn the motor one way, heel down to turn it the other - same control as a hydraulic foot pedal on a sportfish boat) and left/right steering buttons (for fishermen who prefer button-based steering). Onboard controls include: Spot-Lock activation, rotary speed control dial, momentary/constant power toggle, AutoPilot on/off toggle. 18-foot cable from foot pedal to motor with waterproof connector plug - long enough to position the pedal anywhere on the bow deck or even back at the helm if you want to drive from there.

Digital Maximizer continuously variable speed. Old-school trolling motors had 5 forward speeds (stepped). You could run at speed 3 (too slow) or speed 4 (too fast) but not in between. Digital Maximizer is continuously variable - dial in any speed and the motor delivers only the power required for that speed. The downstream effect: up to 5x longer run time on a single battery charge compared to old stepped systems. For all-day fishing in moderate wind, that means more time on the water and less time at the boat ramp swapping batteries.

Weedless Wedge 2 prop. The included MKP-33 Weedless Wedge 2 propeller has swept-back flared blades engineered specifically to cut through grass, milfoil, hydrilla, and submerged weeds without chopping and hacking. The traditional prop in heavy vegetation wastes power chewing through vegetation, drains the battery faster, and stalls in the worst patches. The Weedless Wedge 2 powers through cleanly. Comes installed - the prop pin, nut, and washer are included if you ever need to replace or reinstall it.

Indestructible composite shaft, guaranteed for life. The 60-inch composite shaft is engineered to flex on impact and return to true rather than permanently bend like aluminum shafts. The lifetime guarantee on the shaft means if it ever breaks under normal use, Minn Kota replaces it. Most aggressive shaft warranty in the trolling motor industry.

Mobile app control. Free Minn Kota mobile app for Apple iOS and Android. Pair the Terrova to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth and control speed, steering, Spot-Lock, AutoPilot from the app. Also handles software updates so you can keep the Terrova's firmware current without going to a service center. Useful as a backup control if the wireless remote runs out of battery or gets dropped overboard.

One-Boat Network compatibility. Minn Kota's ecosystem-integration platform - lets the Terrova share data and commands with compatible sister-brand fish finders, Talon shallow water anchors, and other One-Boat Network accessories. Spot-Lock from your fish finder touchscreen. Talon deploy from the Minn Kota remote. Integrated control of all electronics from any system component.

Push-to-test battery meter on the motor head. Press a button to get instant battery status - no need to walk back to the helm or dig out a multimeter. Lets you plan your fishing day around remaining battery life.

Power steering. The motor's electric steering is power-assisted, so foot pedal steering force is minimal - your foot moves the pedal lightly and the motor handles the actual steering load. Compared to non-power-steering bow-mount motors, the Terrova is noticeably lighter on the foot pedal during long days.

Specs at a glance. 24-volt operation (two 12V deep-cycle batteries in series). 80 lb thrust. 60-inch composite shaft. Max amp draw 56 amps. Bolt-on bow mount. Bow-mount installation location. Electric-steer motor style. Freshwater use. Two-year Minn Kota motor warranty plus lifetime guarantee on the composite shaft.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Terrova 80 right for my boat?

Sweet spot is 19 to 22-foot freshwater fishing boats. Bass boats, multi-species walleye boats, sportfish bay boats, bigger jon boats, and pontoons in that size range pair well with the 80lb thrust on a 24V system. For boats under 19 feet, look at the Terrova 55 (12V, 55lb thrust) or Powerdrive 55 - the 80 is overkill. For boats 22+ feet, look at the Terrova 112 (36V, 112lb thrust) or Quest series - the 80 might be underpowered in wind and current.

What batteries do I need?

Two 12-volt deep-cycle marine batteries wired in series for 24V operation. Typical recommendation is Group 27 or Group 31 deep-cycle (100+ Ah each) for serious fishing. Lithium LiFePO4 12V batteries also work well and run lighter than equivalent lead-acid - the Terrova is compatible with standard lithium marine batteries. Don't try to use car starting batteries - those aren't designed for the deep cycling that trolling motors do.

What's the difference between Spot-Lock and AutoPilot?

Spot-Lock holds POSITION - the boat stays at a single GPS coordinate against wind and current. AutoPilot holds HEADING - the boat continues moving in a fixed direction while you control speed. Use Spot-Lock when you've found a productive spot and want to stay on it. Use AutoPilot when you're moving and want the boat to track straight while you focus on rod work (trolling crank baits, working a shoreline, etc).

Will it work with my fish finder?

The built-in Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar transducer in the shaft requires a compatible CHIRP-capable fish finder to display the sonar data. Most modern fish finders support CHIRP, but check your specific model and the included transducer connector type. The Terrova ships with a transducer connector that fits the most common pinout - compatible adapter cables may be needed for some fish finder models.

How does the wireless remote work?

Battery-powered handheld remote with LCD screen. Pair to the Terrova once via the included pairing procedure. After pairing, the remote works anywhere on the boat - typical 75+ foot range. LCD screen shows current heading, speed setting, GPS status, and active commands so you have full situational awareness. The remote handles Spot-Lock, AutoPilot, speed, steering, and cruise control. Include the lanyard - dropping the remote overboard during a hookset is the most common failure mode.

Can I install it myself?

Yes - bow-mount installation is a 4 to 8-hour project for a competent DIY boater. Steps: (1) Mount the bolt-on bracket to the bow deck (drill holes, through-bolt with the included hardware, use a stainless backing plate inside the bow if possible). (2) Mount the motor to the bracket. (3) Run the power cables from the motor to your 24V battery bank with appropriate fusing (typically 60A breaker). (4) Run the foot pedal cable. (5) Mount the heading sensor near the motor head. (6) Pair the wireless remote. (7) If using the integrated sonar, run the transducer cable to your fish finder.

What's the foot pedal like?

Low-profile heel-toe electric foot pedal with rotary speed control dial. Push toe down to turn one direction, push heel down to turn the other. Speed is set with the rotary dial (not foot pressure). Dedicated buttons for Spot-Lock activation, AutoPilot on/off toggle, momentary/constant power toggle. Cable is 18 feet of waterproof cable from foot pedal to motor - long enough to position the pedal anywhere on the bow deck.

How long does the battery last?

Depends heavily on the speed you run. At full power (drawing 56 amps), a pair of 100Ah batteries gives you about 2 hours. At cruising power (drawing 30A), the same batteries give you about 6 hours. At slow trolling power (drawing 10A), 20+ hours. Digital Maximizer is what makes slow-speed runs so long - you only burn the power you actually use. For a typical full fishing day with mixed speeds, plan on the battery handling 8-12 hours of intermittent use comfortably.

What's Jog and how does it work?

Jog lets you adjust your active Spot-Lock target 5 feet in any direction without canceling and re-setting Spot-Lock. Useful when the wind shifts and you want to reposition slightly upwind, or when you want to fine-tune your casting angle on a brush pile. Press Jog forward, backward, left, or right on the remote and the Spot-Lock target moves 5 feet that direction. Requires the included heading sensor to work.

Does it work in saltwater?

No - the Terrova is freshwater-only. For saltwater use, look at the Riptide Terrova - the saltwater equivalent with stainless steel hardware, sacrificial anodes, and saltwater-grade seals. Don't run a freshwater Terrova in salt - it'll corrode internally within one season and void the warranty.

What's the difference vs the Ulterra or the Quest series?

Ulterra adds auto-stow/deploy (motor stows and deploys with the press of a button - no manual lift required) and power trim. Quest series is the newer flagship with brushless motors for longer life, even quieter operation, and updated electronics. The Terrova is the workhorse mid-flagship - all the GPS, sonar, and control features without the auto-stow mechanics or the higher Quest price tag. For most serious bass and walleye fishermen, the Terrova is the right balance of features and price.

What's the warranty?

Two-year Minn Kota motor warranty (covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship) plus the lifetime guarantee on the composite shaft. Minn Kota's authorized service network is the most established in the trolling motor industry - parts availability and warranty turnaround are reliable, and most authorized service centers can repair Minn Kota motors in-house.
