Choosing a Lewmar Bow Thruster

Start with thrust rating and boat size. Lewmar sizes its tunnel thrusters by thrust and power, such as the 110TT and 140TT kits, and a thruster must be matched to your boat length and windage to push the bow effectively. Underpowering a heavy boat leaves you short in a strong crosswind.

Plan the full system. A tunnel thruster needs a tunnel kit molded into the hull, plus a control cable run to the helm and a correctly rated fuse to protect the motor. Lewmar offers control cables in several lengths, so measure the run from the thruster to the joystick. Most kits are 12-volt, so confirm your house voltage. A stern thruster adds matching control at the back of the boat. Confirm thrust, voltage and cable length before ordering.
