Lenco 101 Standard Trim Tab Actuator - 12V - 2-1/4" Stroke

The Lenco 101 Standard Actuator is the workhorse 12V actuator that lives inside Lenco's Standard, Edge Mount, and Standard Performance trim tab kits. If you've got a Lenco trim tab system on your boat and one of the actuators has finally given up after years of service (or you bumped a piling and bent the housing), this is the replacement that drops in. 2-1/4 inches of stroke, 500 pounds of push, sealed ballscrew design, and the Deutsch waterproof connector that plugs into your existing Lenco harness without splices.

What this actuator actually does. Trim tab actuators are the electric cylinders that push your trim tab planes down to deflect water and lift the stern, then pull them back up to retract. They're the moving part of the trim tab system, and they take real load every time they cycle. Quality matters here because a failed actuator means a stuck tab (which makes your boat handle weird) and a long-term leak risk if water intrudes through a damaged seal.

Lenco's actuator design is the ballscrew version, not the older hydraulic-cylinder type that competing brands use. Ballscrew means the actuator uses a precision threaded shaft with ball bearings between the threads to convert motor rotation into linear push or pull. The benefit is instant response (no hydraulic fluid to compress or pump up), much higher torque per amp, and zero hydraulic fluid to leak or maintain. Lenco backs this with the marketing claim of being twice as powerful as comparable hydraulic systems, which checks out in practice. The 500-pound push rating is sufficient for any standard trim tab application up to large center console and offshore configurations.

The current generation of the 101 incorporates a series of meaningful improvements over older Lenco actuators. The Anti Extrusion Ring (AXR) seal stabilization system keeps the seal package together under repeated cycling and protects against the seal-blowout failure mode that takes older actuators out of service. A stronger top cap and mounting clevis design handle the loads from longer trim tabs without flexing or cracking at the attachment points. Improved pressure-tight torx screws replace the older slotted hardware. An integrated wiper seal at the actuator base sweeps salt and grit off the shaft on each retraction cycle, which keeps the seal interior clean and extends seal life. A molded-in brass thrust bearing handles the axial load on the shaft. A thicker motor housing wall resists impact damage. An improved O-ring design gives more consistent sealing across temperature ranges. The cable is over-molded into the actuator body for a tighter waterproof seal at the cable entry, which used to be a vulnerable point on older actuator generations.

The upper mounting bracket with gland seal is included. The gland seal is the rubber bushing that the actuator wire passes through at the bracket, sealing the wire entry against water intrusion at the mounting interface. Without it, water can wick down the cable into the bracket and rust out the mounting hardware over time.

The construction materials are appropriate for marine service. The body is high-impact glass-fiber-filled UV-resistant nylon, which is light, strong, and immune to saltwater corrosion. The cylinder tubing is 316 super-buff stainless steel, the saltwater-grade alloy that holds up to salt spray and immersion without pitting or corrosion. The combination is the right balance of weight, strength, and longevity for a marine actuator that lives outside the boat below the waterline.

Compatibility. The 101 fits Lenco Standard, Edge Mount, and Standard Performance trim tab kits. If you have an older Lenco kit that uses a different actuator (the 102 long-stroke actuator, the 50 series, or the original heavy-duty Performance actuator), this isn't the right replacement. Confirm your kit's part number and the existing actuator's stroke length before ordering. The most common Lenco trim tab kits in the 9 by 12, 12 by 12, and similar sizes use the 101 as their actuator.

The Deutsch connector is the same standard quick-disconnect connector used across the Lenco line, so this actuator plugs directly into your existing trim tab harness without splices, soldering, or heat shrink. Disconnect the failed actuator, plug in the new one, mount it to the bracket, and you're done. Most owners replace an actuator in 15 to 30 minutes once they've got the boat in a position where they can access the transom mounting area.

The 6-foot cable lengths is sized to reach from the trim tab actuator at the transom up to where the existing harness terminates inside the bilge or splash well. If your install requires a longer run, the included 5/16-inch mounting hardware is for the actuator-to-bracket attachment, not the wire run, so cable length doesn't constrain the mount choice.

What's in the box. The 101 actuator with the over-molded 6-foot cable and Deutsch connector pre-attached, the upper mounting bracket with gland seal, the 5/16-inch mounting hardware, and the install instructions. Nothing else needed for a like-for-like replacement install.
