Furuno DFF3 Black Box Sounder Module — Product description

Unlock Crystal-Clear Underwater Insights with the Furuno DFF3

Imagine scanning depths up to 3,000 meters with pinpoint accuracy, revealing hidden fish schools and intricate bottom structures without the clutter of noise or interference. The Furuno DFF3 black box sounder module delivers this reality through its cutting-edge FDF (Furuno Digital Filter) signal processing, transforming your NavNet display into a dual-frequency powerhouse for serious anglers and mariners.

Unlike traditional sounders that struggle with echo overload, the DFF3's innovative technology filters out unwanted signals, providing sharper images even in challenging conditions like heavy currents or thermoclines. Whether you're chasing trophy fish in deep offshore waters or mapping shallow reefs, this compact unit integrates seamlessly, letting you multitask with radar overlays and chart plotting on the same screen.

Powerful Performance Tailored for Real-World Fishing

The DFF3 stands out with its flexible 1, 2, or 3kW output power, adjustable to match your vessel's needs and target depths. Its Furuno Free Synthesis (FFS) technology lets you fine-tune frequencies anywhere from 28 to 200kHz, optimizing for specific species or environments—low for wide-area scanning of baitfish, high for precise bottom discrimination.

  • Dual-Frequency Alternate Transmission: Switch effortlessly between high and low frequencies for comprehensive coverage, spotting pelagics and demersals in one pass.
  • Variable Transmission Rate: Adapts pulse rates to depth, capturing finer details on structure without sacrificing range—perfect for jigging or trolling.
  • Airmar Transducer Compatibility: Works with ID-equipped transducers for plug-and-play setup, auto-recognizing models for instant calibration.
  • Heave Compensation: Pair with SC-30, SC-50, or SC-110 satellite compasses to stabilize readings in rough seas, ensuring reliable data when it counts.
  • Built-In Temperature Port: Connect a 6-pin sensor directly for real-time water temp logs, correlating with fish behavior patterns.

Anglers report seeing fish arches and bait balls with unprecedented clarity, often spotting marks missed by older analog units. It's not just about power—it's about smart processing that cuts through the noise for actionable intel.

Effortless Integration into Your NavNet Ecosystem

A single Ethernet cable connects the DFF3 to any NavNet, NavNet vx2, or NavNet 3D display—no software updates needed. Daisy-chain via an Ethernet hub, and every connected screen accesses the sounder data simultaneously. This black box design keeps your helm clutter-free, mounting easily with WAGO connectors for quick, reliable wiring.

As a direct upgrade path from the BBFF3, it slots right into existing setups, breathing new life into legacy systems. Pair it with broadband transducers for even wider cones, maximizing your search area without blind spots.

Why Choose DFF3 for Superior Fish-Finding Results

Beyond specs, the DFF3 excels in practical scenarios: distinguishing hard bottoms from soft mud, tracking suspended fish amid plankton blooms, or zooming on wrecks for lure placement. Its digital prowess means fewer false positives, saving time and fuel on the water. For commercial operators, the deep-range capability supports habitat mapping and stock assessments with professional-grade precision.

Users love how it enhances situational awareness—overlay sonar returns on charts to plan drifts or anchor spots. In a world of cookie-cutter electronics, the DFF3's synthesizer flexibility keeps you ahead, adapting to evolving fishing tactics.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Furuno DFF3 different from standard fish finders?

The DFF3 uses FDF digital filtering and FFS frequency synthesis for noise-free, customizable scans up to 3,000 meters, far surpassing typical built-in sounders in clarity and depth.

Is the DFF3 compatible with older NavNet systems?

Yes, it works plug-and-play with NavNet 1, vx2, and 3D—no updates required, making it ideal for upgrading legacy setups.

Can I use any transducer with the DFF3?

It's optimized for Airmar transducers with ID tech for auto-detection, but supports a wide range—check your model's frequency match for best results.

How does heave compensation improve DFF3 performance?

When linked to compatible satellite compasses, it corrects for boat motion in waves, delivering stable bottom and fish readings in choppy conditions.

What's the easiest way to install the DFF3?

Use the WAGO connectors and a single Ethernet cable to your display or hub—its black box design allows flexible mounting out of sight.

Does the DFF3 support temperature sensing?

Absolutely, via its dedicated 6-pin port, enabling water temp data integration for better understanding fish movements.

Dff3

Furuno's DFF3 is a new network sounder featuring FDF (Furuno Digital Filter) signal processing technology. The DFF3 is designed for use with NavNet, NavNet vx2 and NavNet 3D. This new digital Network Sounder can turn any NavNet display into a powerful, dual-frequency digital fish finder. The compact network sounder unit connects directly to a NavNet display or an Ethernet hub with a single Ethernet cable. If it is connected to an Ethernet hub that has multiple displays attached, each of those displays will have access to the Network Sounder.

The sounder itself has a selectable 1, 2 or 3kW output power. You may choose any two operating frequencies from 28 to 200kHz with FFS (Furuno Free Synthesis) technology. With the powerful DFF3, you can obtain detailed echoes of bottom structure and fish using range scales of up to 3,000 meters (nearly 10,000 feet). And because the Network Sounder is used on a NavNet display, you will also be able to use its Radar and Chart Plotter features depending on which unit you have.

The DFF3 is a direct replacement for the BBFF3 network sounder.
