Furuno FAX30 External Black Box Weatherfax & Navtex Receiver - Less Antenna — Product description

Enhance Your Onboard Navigation with Reliable Weather Updates

Imagine setting sail with confidence, knowing you have real-time weather faxes and critical navigational warnings at your fingertips. The Furuno FAX30 black box receiver delivers exactly that, transforming your NavNet display or standard PC into a powerful hub for marine weather intelligence. Without needing bulky antennas or complex setups, this compact unit pulls in high-quality images and text messages from global stations, helping skippers avoid storms, optimize routes, and stay informed during long passages.

Designed for serious boaters who demand precision, the FAX30 stands out by rejecting noise for crystal-clear receptions, even in choppy seas. Whether you're crossing oceans or coastal cruising, it provides the edge that turns uncertain forecasts into actionable insights.

Seamless Connectivity for Modern Marine Systems

Integration is effortless with a single Ethernet cable. Hook it up to your 10.4-inch NavNet touchscreen, and weather data overlays right on your chartplotter. Multiple displays on an Ethernet hub? Everyone onboard accesses the same feeds simultaneously. For land-based planning, connect to any Ethernet-equipped PC—no extra software downloads or steep learning curves. Just open your web browser, and charts populate instantly, ready for printing or analysis.

This flexibility shines for vessels with mixed setups, from sailboats to fishing trawlers, ensuring weather awareness extends beyond the helm.

Advanced Features for Crystal-Clear Reception

  • Paperless Efficiency: Store up to 12 weather fax images and 130 Navtex messages, viewable anytime via thumbnails for quick scans.
  • Customizable Views: Choose from 8 grayscale tones, blue shades, pink-black contrasts, or red-blue palettes to match your screen and lighting conditions.
  • Smart Tuning: Program 320 user channels, fine-tune phase and sync post-reception, and filter out interference for professional-grade clarity.
  • Broad Coverage: LF/MF/HF faxes from 80 kHz to 25 MHz, plus Navtex at 490/518 kHz—pulling from worldwide broadcasters.

These tools empower users to layer weather overlays on radar, spotting squalls before they hit and adjusting courses proactively.

Rugged Build for Harsh Marine Environments

Built to IEC 60529 waterproof standards, the FAX30 thrives in spray, humidity, and rough handling. Its 12-24V DC power draw peaks at 15W, sipping energy from your boat's batteries during extended voyages. Weighing in light at 8 lbs., it tucks neatly into tight consoles, leaving deck space free.

Boaters praise its reliability in real-world tests—from Pacific crossings where fax charts predicted trade wind shifts, to Gulf Stream runs dodging tropical disturbances.

Practical Tips for Maximizing Your FAX30

To get the most from your receiver, position it away from high-power electronics like inverters to minimize interference. Schedule receptions during peak station windows—early mornings for Atlantic coverage, evenings for Pacific. Use the softkey menus on NavNet for one-touch scheduling, and experiment with color modes for night watches. Pairing with radar creates a safety net: fax fronts align with live echoes, revealing storm tracks invisible to the eye alone.

For PC users, bookmark frequent stations and set browser alerts for incoming Navtex urgents like ice warnings or search-and-rescue broadcasts.
