Furuno NavNet TZtouch2 Black-Box Chartplotter Fish Finder

The TZT2BB is the black-box version of Furuno's NavNet TZtouch2 multifunction chartplotter. The processor unit ships without a display, with the architecture that drives external HDMI monitors (one or two, in any combination of 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios). It's the right pick for installations that want the TZtouch2 brain, but with an external monitor sized to a specific helm cutout, mounted at a non-Furuno position, or matching an existing screen brand.

The TZtouch2 operating system is the Furuno recreational chartplotter platform, designed around multi-touch gestures (taps, swipes, pinches, custom multi-touch) that feel like a tablet. Edge-swipe gestures slide menus in from the screen edges for the most frequent operations without burying them in nested menus. The graphical user interface is among the most polished in the marine chartplotter category, designed by the same team that did the original NavNet TZtouch and refined across multiple software generations. For installations where the operator wants a dedicated keypad and rotary controller, the optional MCU004 remote (joystick and rotary knob) and MCU005 controller (full keypad) integrate cleanly.

The dual HDMI output is the display-driving differentiator. Two HDMI ports output full HD 1920x1080, with the two outputs independent and configurable in any aspect ratio combination, 4:3 and 4:3, 16:9 and 4:3, or 16:9 and 16:9. This lets the installer drive a primary 16:9 widescreen monitor at the helm and a 4:3 secondary monitor at the navigator's station, or two matched 16:9 displays at twin helms, with the processor handling the resolution and aspect-ratio scaling automatically. USB touch input from a touch-enabled HDMI monitor is supported, so a third-party touch monitor connected via HDMI plus USB gives the same touch experience as a Furuno-branded TZtouch2 display.

The built-in fish finder is a serious sounder on its own. Dual-frequency 50 and 200 kHz CHIRP at 600W or 1 kW output (selectable), with Furuno's signature digital signal processing including Bottom Discrimination (identifies sand, rock, gravel, mud), AccuFish (estimates individual fish size), and RezBoost beam-sharpening DSP. RezBoost is the feature that's hardest to appreciate without seeing it: with RezBoost on, target separation and resolution achievable on a standard 50/200 kHz transducer match what previously required a broadband CHIRP transducer with separate sounder module. For owners running existing legacy Furuno transducers, RezBoost is effectively a software upgrade to commercial-grade sounder performance.

Charting comes preloaded with MapMedia NOAA raster and vector charts for US Coasts, Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii. Free satellite photo overlays are also preloaded, and detailed bathymetric fishing charts are downloadable for free. For international cruising, C-MAP and Datacore by Navionics vector cartography can be purchased and downloaded directly to the processor. PhotoFusion is the Furuno feature that overlays high-resolution satellite imagery on top of the chart with a depth-based transparency gradient: land is opaque satellite imagery, shallow water is partial transparency, and deep water is fully transparent so the underlying chart shows through. The effect is a dramatically more intuitive picture of where the shallows are and where the boat can safely operate.

Networking is the TZtouch2 architectural strength. Three Ethernet LAN ports connect to Furuno UHD radars (4kW NXT dome through 25kW X-Class open array), the NavPilot autopilot, the FI70 instrument display, and other networked NavNet accessories. NMEA 2000 (Micro-C) handles standard engine, fuel, instrument, and AIS data. NMEA 0183 (one output port) bridges to legacy instruments. Five USB ports handle peripherals (touch monitor input, mouse/keyboard, external storage). Two composite video inputs handle camera feeds. Built-in Wi-Fi enables the TZtouch Remote app for smartphone and tablet remote viewing and control, software updates, and the free NavCenter 16-day weather GRIB forecast service.

Power supply is through the included PSD003 Power Supply / Data Switch module, which provides clean DC power to the processor and a data backplane that simplifies the network interconnects. The MPU004 processor unit is the actual chartplotter brain. Both ship with the kit along with power and multi-port cables, mounting hardware, and the documentation pack.
