Minn Kota Talon Tilt Bracket - 8', 10' & 12' Three-Stage Talons — Product description

The Minn Kota Talon Tilt Bracket (MPN 1810222) is the dedicated tilt accessory for Minn Kota Talon shallow water anchors - compatible with all 8-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot three-stage Talon anchor models. Easy-tilt action accommodates low-clearance areas (bridge approaches, marina overhangs, garage / barn storage) and dry-storage applications. Marine-grade anodized aluminum construction throughout for strength, corrosion resistance, and the long-term durability needed for the marine environment. Adjustable deck support provides stability while the Talon is in the tilted position - prevents the anchor from rocking or shifting under wind and wave action. 6-inch setback from the transom. All stainless steel hardware included plus the Talon crutch support (the cradle that holds the tilted Talon in place). Requires use of a Talon Adapter Bracket (sold separately) - the Tilt Bracket is NOT intended for use with Talons that are direct-mounted to the boat hull. Designed for temporary clearance use - NOT intended for transport at speed on water or during trailering. Limited 5-year warranty.

The Minn Kota Talon Tilt Bracket is the dedicated accessory that lets you tilt a transom-mounted Talon shallow water anchor out of the way for low-clearance situations and dry storage. Talon shallow water anchors are typically mounted in the deployed-ready position on the transom, sticking up several feet above the transom in their stowed position. That extra height is fine for most operating conditions, but creates clearance problems in two specific scenarios: low overhead clearance (bridges, marina cover structures, garage / barn storage doors) and dry storage where the boat needs to fit under or into a covered space. The Tilt Bracket solves both problems - tilt the Talon down out of the way, the boat fits where it needs to go, then tilt back up when you're ready to use the Talon again.

Compatible with all three-stage 8, 10, and 12 foot Talons. The Tilt Bracket fits the full range of three-stage Talon shallow water anchor models in 8-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot lengths. The three-stage Talons are the larger / deeper-water Talon variants (vs the two-stage 6-foot Talons which are smaller). For owners with three-stage Talons, this is the right tilt accessory. For owners with two-stage 6-foot Talons, there's a different tilt accessory designed for that smaller anchor size.

Easy-tilt action. The tilt mechanism is designed for one-person operation - release the tilt latch, rotate the Talon down to the stowed-tilted position, and the Talon stays in place via the crutch support and gravity. Reversing the operation (tilt back up to deployed-ready) is similarly straightforward. The mechanism is engineered to handle the weight of even the heaviest 12-foot Talon without requiring excessive force - one of the design tradeoffs that justified the Tilt Bracket's existence as a dedicated accessory.

Marine-grade anodized aluminum construction. The bracket body is built from marine-grade aluminum with an anodized finish for corrosion resistance. The anodized finish creates a passive aluminum-oxide surface layer that resists saltwater corrosion meaningfully better than bare aluminum (which oxidizes and develops surface chalking quickly in marine environments). The anodized finish also gives the bracket a uniform silver appearance that matches typical Talon finishes - looks like part of the original Talon installation rather than an obvious aftermarket addition.

Adjustable deck support for stability while tilted. The deck support is a structural element that bears on the boat's transom or deck surface when the Talon is in the tilted position - prevents the Talon from rocking or shifting under wind and wave loads. The support is adjustable to accommodate different transom geometries and tilt angles - tune the support position once during install for your specific boat, leave it. The stability matters because an unsupported tilted Talon could swing under wave action and damage the Talon, the Tilt Bracket, or the boat transom over time.

6-inch setback. The Tilt Bracket adds a 6-inch setback between the transom and the Talon's mounting point. The setback is what creates the tilt geometry - without setback, the Talon would have to tilt directly against the transom surface, which doesn't work mechanically. The 6-inch dimension is chosen to provide the right tilt clearance without adding excessive transom overhang.

All stainless steel hardware included. All the mounting bolts, washers, and structural fasteners are stainless steel - the marine-grade hardware that resists corrosion in saltwater service. Cheaper alternatives use zinc-plated steel hardware that visibly rusts within a season of saltwater exposure. the stainless hardware in this bracket maintains its appearance and structural integrity over years of marine use.

Talon crutch support included. The Talon crutch is the cradle that holds the tilted Talon in the stowed-tilted position - prevents the Talon from over-tilting or hitting the deck. The crutch is included with the Tilt Bracket as part of the standard kit. For owners thinking the crutch needs separate purchase, no - it's in the box.

Requires Talon Adapter Bracket (sold separately). Critical fitment note - the Tilt Bracket requires use of a Talon Adapter Bracket (different Minn Kota accessory, sold separately). The Adapter Bracket is the interface between the Tilt Bracket and the Talon itself. The Tilt Bracket is NOT intended for use with Talons that are direct-mounted to the boat hull - you need the Adapter Bracket to make the tilt geometry work. Order both accessories together if you don't already have an Adapter Bracket installed.

NOT for transport - temporary clearance only. The Tilt Bracket is engineered for temporary clearance use, NOT for transport. Don't run the boat at speed on water with the Talon tilted - the tilt position isn't braced for high-speed water loads. Don't trailer the boat with the Talon tilted via this bracket - tilt the Talon DOWN and lash it to the boat for trailering, or remove the Talon entirely for long-distance trailering. The Tilt Bracket's role is to let you fit under a bridge or into dry storage, not to provide an alternative running position.

5-year limited warranty. Minn Kota backs the Tilt Bracket with a 5-year limited warranty - long warranty term for an accessory of this type. Service through the Minn Kota authorized service network. Save the receipt and original packaging if practical for warranty service. The mechanical simplicity of the Tilt Bracket (no electronics, no moving parts beyond the pivot) means warranty issues are rare under normal use.

Use cases. Two main scenarios. First: low overhead clearance. You routinely run under bridges, marina cover structures, or other low-clearance situations where the stowed Talon doesn't fit. Tilt the Talon at the dock before launching, run under the clearance, return to the dock, tilt back up. Repeat as needed for each clearance event. Second: dry storage. You store the boat in a garage, barn, covered slip, or other enclosed space where the upright stowed Talon doesn't fit through the door or under the ceiling. Tilt the Talon when storing, tilt back up when launching. The 5-second tilt operation means it's not a burden during regular use.

What it doesn't do. The Tilt Bracket doesn't change the deployed-position geometry of the Talon - when the Talon is deployed into the water for anchoring, the geometry is the same as without the Tilt Bracket. The Tilt Bracket only affects the stowed position when not in use. So you don't lose any operational capability by adding the Tilt Bracket - you just gain the ability to tilt for clearance / storage situations.

Install. Bolt the Tilt Bracket to the transom using the supplied stainless hardware (typical install uses 5/16-inch bolts through the transom with backing plates inside and marine sealant at every penetration). Install the Talon Adapter Bracket (sold separately) into the Tilt Bracket per the Adapter Bracket's install guide. Mount the Talon to the Adapter Bracket. Adjust the deck support position for your specific transom geometry. Test the tilt operation - verify the Talon tilts smoothly into the crutch support without binding. Total install runs 2-3 hours for someone with reasonable mechanical and marine electrical skills (the marine electrical skill is for the Talon installation itself, not the Tilt Bracket).

Not for two-stage 6-foot Talons. To be clear: the 1810222 Tilt Bracket fits the THREE-STAGE 8, 10, 12 foot Talons specifically. For two-stage 6-foot Talons, you need a different tilt accessory. Verify your Talon model before ordering this bracket.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my Talon?

The 1810222 Tilt Bracket fits THREE-STAGE 8-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot Talons specifically. It does NOT fit the smaller two-stage 6-foot Talons (those require a different tilt accessory designed for the smaller anchor size). Verify your Talon model before ordering - check the Talon's product label or your purchase paperwork to confirm three-stage vs two-stage configuration.

Do I also need an Adapter Bracket?

Yes - the Tilt Bracket requires use of a separate Talon Adapter Bracket (sold separately by Minn Kota). The Adapter Bracket is the interface between the Tilt Bracket and the Talon itself. If you already have a Talon Adapter Bracket installed, you're set. If not, order the Adapter Bracket at the same time as this Tilt Bracket - you need both for the installation to work.

Can I use it with a direct-mounted Talon?

No - the Tilt Bracket is NOT intended for use with Talons that are direct-mounted to the boat hull. Direct-mounted Talons don't have the geometry needed for the tilt mechanism to work. If your Talon is direct-mounted and you need tilt capability, you'd need to convert to an Adapter Bracket mounting first, then add the Tilt Bracket. That's a meaningful install change - verify it's worth doing for your specific situation.

Can I run the boat with the Talon tilted?

No - the Tilt Bracket is engineered for temporary clearance use, not for transport. Don't run the boat at speed on water with the Talon tilted via this bracket - the tilt position isn't braced for the high-speed water loads that running creates. The role of the Tilt Bracket is to let you fit under bridges or into dry storage, not to provide an alternative running position. For running, the Talon should be in the standard upright stowed position.

Can I trailer with it tilted?

No - same reason as not running on water. The Tilt Bracket isn't braced for the shocks and vibration of trailering. For trailering, either keep the Talon in the standard upright stowed position (and verify your trailer setup accommodates the height), OR remove the Talon entirely for long-distance moves. The Tilt Bracket's tilted position is for temporary at-rest clearance only.

What's the deck support for?

The deck support is a structural element that bears on the boat's transom or deck surface when the Talon is in the tilted position - prevents the Talon from rocking or shifting under wind and wave loads while tilted. The support is adjustable to accommodate different transom geometries and tilt angles - tune the support position once during install for your specific boat, leave it. Without proper deck support, the unsupported tilted Talon could swing under wave action and damage the Talon, the Tilt Bracket, or the boat transom over time.

What's the crutch support?

The Talon crutch is the cradle that holds the tilted Talon in the stowed-tilted position - prevents the Talon from over-tilting or hitting the deck. The crutch is INCLUDED with the Tilt Bracket in the standard kit (no separate purchase needed). The crutch adjusts to accommodate the specific Talon length (8, 10, or 12 feet) you're using.

How long does the tilt operation take?

5-10 seconds per operation once you know the procedure. Release the tilt latch, rotate the Talon down to the stowed-tilted position, the Talon stays in place via the crutch support and gravity. Reversing (tilt back up to deployed-ready) is similarly fast. The mechanism is designed for routine use - you can tilt for every bridge approach without it becoming a burden.

Does it affect anchoring performance?

No - the Tilt Bracket doesn't change the deployed-position geometry of the Talon when actually anchoring. The Talon deploys into the water exactly the same way it would without the Tilt Bracket. The Tilt Bracket only affects the stowed position when the Talon isn't being used. So you don't lose any operational capability by adding the Tilt Bracket - you just gain the tilt-for-clearance capability.

What about saltwater?

Yes - the Tilt Bracket is built for saltwater use. Anodized aluminum body resists saltwater corrosion, all stainless steel mounting hardware, and marine-grade construction throughout. Rinse with fresh water after each saltwater trip and inspect bolts periodically for galvanic corrosion. Properly maintained, the Tilt Bracket will outlast the typical Talon service life.

How does it install?

Bolt the Tilt Bracket to the transom using the supplied stainless hardware (typical install uses 5/16-inch bolts through the transom with backing plates inside and marine sealant at every penetration). Install the Talon Adapter Bracket (sold separately) into the Tilt Bracket per the Adapter Bracket's install guide. Mount the Talon to the Adapter Bracket. Adjust the deck support position for your specific transom geometry. Test the tilt operation. Total install runs 2-3 hours for someone with reasonable mechanical skills.

What's the warranty?

Limited 5-year warranty - long warranty term for an accessory of this type. Service through the Minn Kota authorized service network. Save the receipt and original packaging if practical for warranty service. The mechanical simplicity of the Tilt Bracket (no electronics, minimal moving parts) means warranty issues are rare under normal use.
